Stephanopoulos: Obama raised over $150 million in September
October 19, 2008 6:53 AM
ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reports: Barack Obama’s presidential campaign shattered all records in September by raising more than $150 million, the campaign announced in an e-mail to supporters this morning.
Obama’s haul more than doubles his previous monthly best of $67 million, which came during August of this year, and will further fuel his financial advantage over John McCain.
Since accepting public funds after being nominated for president at the Republican Convention in early September, McCain has been limited to spending $84 million, although the Republican National Committee has raised additional money on his behalf.
Obama has been putting his financial advantage to good use, and in recent weeks has massively outspent McCain on television ads. During the second week of October, Obama spent $32 million blanketing the airwaves in the key battleground states, while McCain and the RNC combined to spend only $16 million.
Obama’s campaign says its September fundraising was fueled by 632,000 donors, giving the campaign a total of 3.1 million since launching early last year.
On "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" this morning, a powerhouse roundtable of George Will, Donna Brazile, Newt Gingrich, David Gergen, and Tom Friedman will assess the political implications of Obama’s significant cash advantage.

Yes, and he got $25 from me, too, and I also gave $25 to Matthew 25 network, Christians for Obama. HE is a good man, concerned about our shrinking middle class, and I am sick of all the hate that has been directed toward him.

I here the elites in Indonesia are being forced to contribute to the Obama campaign thru Farakhan's connections. Will NYTimes and Washington Post investigate this. Remember Indonesia is a muslim country

Reuters/Zogby within 3 points. Money cannot buy elections ( ask Perot, Forbes,..). Hilary beat him in the mid west inspite of spending 4 to 1. Also some of these money is tainted coming from overseas drugs and terrorist connections...
Trying to cover up Rezko/Ayers/Wright/Farrakhan/Jesse Jackson/Drug habits/Smoking/Bitter americans/HIgher taxes/Socialist distribution of wealth/sitting with Iran/Venezuela without conditions/Against guns/against drilling/against nuclear power/against victory in Iraq...... will be his downfall

Where did all of the money come from? Isn't it important to know who is backing Obama? I am a Democrat and Obama supporter...but, I'd still like to know who is contributing so much to his campaign.

I wish he would direct his wealth to some good cause other than this meaningless t.v. advertising. I was totally desensitized by his commercials yesterday. There are simply to many of them.

Today as of total 605million has been spent on this election by Obama. Now add this figure to that. This is an outright crime!!!! I say this because if Obama wins he will have being bought into the White House. A lot of folks could have benefited from this money in this time of hardship instead, Obama has bought most of the media outlets, radio, and etc. to force his way into the White House, suddenly our country doesn't feel like a democracy instead like a one sided revolution and with the other side of this election being railroaded into silence. I feel if ever a time in history of REFORM that Candidates must be limited to funds used in elections and also a shorter time of campaigns. Our country is the only country in the world that uses so much time before the actual election day. We have a crisis and the only focus is money and elections for the past 17 month. This is truly a crime against the American people.

If the economy is as bad as the news portrays it - worldwide, how can people afford to continue sending all this money, increasing every month?

That is one highly paid lawyer! Even OJ's lawyers don't make that much. How much is that per hour? $208,333 per hour, 24-7 !
It's gotta be a Guinness record

Uhhhhhh.... see a pattern here?
Some of us aren't so stupid to fall into this trap.
But the rest of you apparently are.
I'll vote for real change instead.

i just found this board and have read quite a few issues but NOONE here is facing the FACTS...this is still white america and i will vote obama but Obama will lose and i hate it and heres why...
1] it WILL come down to the race card at the polls...until then Obama's campaign is fooling themselves if they think it isnt going to happen.
obama has been set up to fall by those that groomed him for this since 96 and those that have supported him come nov 4 many will vote McCain because of one issue...WHITE !
they can say IM OBAMA..very easy but when the curtain closes and its there VOTE thats where the... ignorant racism takes over and white as much as they say i will vote obama...simply wont vote for him on that day.
on nov 4 many supporters will vote based soley on race. fact !
..is it right?..hell no !
but its going to happen and theres nothing anyone can do about it.
2] palin was brought in to swing the female voter and as much as it shouldnt matter it does, of 6 women voters 4 will vote McCain/Palin just because of sex. prejudice and ignorance wins these votes.
3] the electoral college will have the final say, there vote elects the president, our votes only set presidence as to how we would like our reps from each state too vote....it does not nessassarly mean they have to vote the popular vote,
so again the stage is set for failure, Obama my collect and have majority popular vote but will loose the vote from the electoral college and thus loose the election.
4] america is still controlled by:
the rich, the ignorant, the racist and the prejudice.

I am far from rich, but God has blessed me with the resource I need to survive. I have donate consistently to Obama over the course of this election. And, I will give more if needed. I believe Obama, "That One" is "The One" who will be the best president for these troubling times. And, he is not a socialist!!!!!!! He is a realist, responding to the needs of real people. McCain wants a system where the rich get richer and the rest of us just hope they will share their crumbs with the rest of us. OBAMA/BIDEN O8 Yeah! Vote "THAT ONE"

Everyone thought that Sara Palin would be a boom to GOP fund raising. Seems she and her trash talk have helped the Democrats more.
