Stephanopoulos: Top House Official Says House Has Over 230 Votes to Pass Bailout Bill
October 03, 2008 11:18 AM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: A top House official is confident House leaders have enough votes to pass the financial rescue package, which is expected to be voted on later today.
A top House official tells ABC News they have at least 230 votes for the bailout package - at least 150 Democrats and at least 80 Republicans.
The House of Representatives needs 218 votes to pass the bill.
When the financial rescue package failed to pass in the House on Monday, only 140 Democrats and 65 Republican members voted for the bill -- 13 votes shy of the 218 needed to pass.

Who put these chumps in charge anyway?
Oh...nevermind. This "new" economy won't make Thanksgiving, and speak not of Christmas.

Well of course they do... Since on top of the 700 Billion dollars, they added another 100+ billion to the bill to guarantee a few more votes... I am so glad that we are being told what we need instead of them listening to the American People telling them that we dont want it!!!!

Vote them all out!

The congress should hold accountable those who put on add ons. Pork barrel spending by Congress should stop.Lobbying by business has led to some of these problems.

---VOTE THE CONGRESSMEN OUT WHO VOTE FOR PAULSONS $700+ BILLION TAXPAYER BAILOUT SCAM TO HELP HIS RICH WALL STREET FRIENDS WHO MADE BILLIONS IN PRIOR YEARS. REPEAL IT. IF THE BAILOUT DOES PASS, ITS POSSIBLE THE STOCK MARKET WILL CRASH BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A HUGE CORRUPT WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY. ---
PAULSON got $163,000,000 SALARY FROM WALL STREET just 2 years ago. Wall Street gives (bribes) millions to congress. NOW PAULSON WANTS GIVE WALL STREET $700+ BILLION TAXPAYERS MONEY. ILLEGAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST?
1. “RESCUE BAILOUT” = GREEDY PAULSON/BERNAKY SCAM for WALL STREET. THEY DON’T FIX ANYTHING. Past “RESCUES” ALL FAIL. STOCK MARKET GOES LOWER AFTER EACH. YOU CANT ERASE TRILLIONS BAD DEBTS BY SHIFT TO TAXPAYERS. ---CHECK DOW CHARTS, DOWN MORE AFTER EACH BAILOUT SCAM: TAF, SIV, Bear, Freddy, AIG, Fanny, IndyMac, WaMu, etc.---
2. First $30 BILLION to “FIX IT”, fails, next $50B, Next $200 BILLION for Freddy friends who gave (bribe) congress $700 MILLION, next AIG $80B, now $700+ BILLION. ---
3. WALL STREET FIRMS MADE BILLIONS PRIOR YEARS, THEY DIDN’T GIVE IT TO TAXPAYERS. SO WHY SHOULD WE PAY THEIR STUPID BILLIONS LOSSSES NOW? (oh I forgot, because Paulson is paid $163 Million by them 2 years ago.) Their CEO’s & PAULSON made MILLIONS. ------
4. WHY NOT GIVE $700 BILLION TO CITY & STATES, SCHOOLS, UNIONS, TEACHERS, taxpayers? Why only to PAULSONS RICH FRIENDS WITH NO CONTROLS, no oversight, no court jurisdiction? ----
5. Paulson: "This entire proposal is about benefiting American people," FEDERAL COW DEPOSITS! THEN WHY GIVE $700 BILLION WALL STREET and NOT TAXPAYERS? ----
6. A desperate Paulson got down on one knee to plead Congress, "Please don't blow this up" after Republicans balked. PAULSON IS DESPARATE - ALREADY SPENT $1 TRILLION TAXPAYER MONEY & FAILED.----
7. VOTE CONGRESSMEN OUT if they vote for it:

The reality of the bailout bill is that is simply postpones what will ultimately happen.
Election year politics have produced the urgency for politicians to protect their jobs by borrowing more.
As a whole, American voters are not intelligent enough to differentiate between politics and reality.

Today is a sad day for this countries. Our leaders have sold us all out. Let there be a bloodbath in November.

Posted by: Fran | Oct 3, 2008 11:37:45 AM
They didn't listen to our voices. We didn't get to vote on this bailout, but come Novemeber we'll vote every last one of them out of office!! Our voices WILL be heard!

What a surprise !! Throw a few corn cobs to the pigs with 'principles' and they belly up to the trough like all the other pigs.

"Crap sandwiches!" he calls as he strides the isles of Congress. "Get your $54,000 USD crap sandwiches here."
"Get 'em while they are warm!" It's mandatory...kinda like the Jonestown koolaid.
Posted by: DobermanSpencer | Oct 3, 2008 11:39:36 AM
Can we vote them OUT, NOW! The corporations are "too big to fail." And you are too small enough for them to give a DAMN about YOU!!! Can we at least punish them for bailing out foreign bankers in England and China, and selling your welfare and your assets into the coffers of foreign bankers! Welcome to Amerika!!! God bless the USSSA!!!
Posted by: hmn | Oct 3, 2008 11:40:30 AM
Congressmen, we are watching you. If you vote yes on this Wall Street/Banking bailout you can expect your pink slip come November. WE the People have spoken, and it's time for YOU to listen!!!!
Posted by: Texan's take note | Oct 3, 2008 11:40:37 AM
Is this bail out going to work? Time
will tell. You Wall Street children
better behave yourself, this is your
last chance for you screw up's

Go ahead Republicans, there's not going to be many of you left in 30 days. I just read that California needs a 7 billion dollar loan.I live in a state that has a balance budget and my tax dollars are gonna go to a welfare state that supports Mexico, nice. This is why Thomas Jefferson wanted a weak central government.

Is this a question poll for the American Public or is it just another media intake on the debates?
This entire article seemed to put Sarah Palin down as if she was a lower class or just plain "folksy"? There is nothing wrong with being a Normal American i.e. a Hockey Mom or Joe six-pack! It is Media standards that have stooped to an all time low. Maybe they should read what the public thinks about them?
Sarah Palin was fantastic, as a Democrat supporting and voting for John McCain, because of his integrity, honor and love of this country. I believe he will do what us "Middle Class" people want him to do, and that is to end the corruption in government. I personally DO NOT want this Bail out under any circumstance. But IF it passes, I hope those people getting monies $150billion in "PORK" will be looked into. We know following the money is the way to go. Then let the chips fall where they may. Because most of us know whose hands will be dirty.
With that said we had a debate party at my home last night and we saw it as another "Gotcha" moment for the McCain side. We’ve been doing a lot of research on issues that are hot topics that Sarah Palin spoke about, economy, energy, the election and who will be running for other seats in the senate etc…
What I would like to know is why has the media been so focused on NON issues about the election instead of the things we want to hear?
Examples of "Opinion" on this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27001026/
My Opinon: This one has not been reported ENOUGH! We know we do not want Government to get involved in our health period!
"BIDEN: "As a matter of fact, John recently wrote an article in a major magazine saying that he wants to do for the health care industry — deregulate it and let the free market move — like he did for the banking industry."
THE FACTS: Biden and Obama have been perpetuating this distortion of what McCain wrote in an article for the American Academy of Actuaries. McCain, laying out his health plan, only referred to deregulation when saying people should be allowed to buy health insurance across state lines. In that context, he wrote: "Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation."
My Opinon: You would be surprised how many people understand the part of Alaska that she wants to drill; and think the Polar Bears will be just fine. Who got the "PORK" money to do the "Research" on the Polar Bears?
"PALIN: Claimed she has taken on the oil industry as Alaska governor.
THE FACTS: Palin pushed to impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and distributed the proceeds to the state's citizens to offset rising energy costs. However, she has also sided with the industry on a number of issues. She sued the Interior Department over its designation of polar bears as an endangered species. That puts her on the same side as the American Petroleum Institute, the oil industry's chief trade association. She also supports the industry's desire to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — a position at odds with McCain."
Hmmm why don’t you add that to your list of…IT doesn’t matter what the "REAL" people think; only what the mainstream media wants us to think.
My mind today is so "discombobulated" by the comments I've been hearing in mainstream media all morning so far. This is only one example of "Stuck on Stupid" as there are so many!
REPORT JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES In the DEBATE 10/2/08?
1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted "the exact same way" as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, "Drill we must." But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to "raping" the Outer Continental Shelf."
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, which the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of its passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. McKiernan COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan; but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes in Afghanistan could be applied.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was "dead wrong on Iraq", because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of "part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20."
14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.
