Stephanopoulos: Top House Official Says House Has Over 230 Votes to Pass Bailout Bill
October 03, 2008 11:18 AM
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: A top House official is confident House leaders have enough votes to pass the financial rescue package, which is expected to be voted on later today.
A top House official tells ABC News they have at least 230 votes for the bailout package - at least 150 Democrats and at least 80 Republicans.
The House of Representatives needs 218 votes to pass the bill.
When the financial rescue package failed to pass in the House on Monday, only 140 Democrats and 65 Republican members voted for the bill -- 13 votes shy of the 218 needed to pass.

If passed, the Bush/Pelosi/Reid bailout will be the final nail in the coffin of the U.S. economy.
Not even FDR and another World War could dig America out of this economic pit.
The Greatest Depression is coming.

totally outrageous. How is it we are raised and told our opinion matter so vote? It doesnt matter and today is a wonderful display that the American public has no say.

This bail out is going to create such a huge domino effect everyone's head will be spinning. Watch and see how many are going to jump ship...Is it another set up for more "PORK"?
Disgusting if this gets passed!

Thank God they are finally listening to tens of thousands of businesses (states, auto, popcorn, colleges, cleaning, daycare, ...) who can't get credit.
These businesses are saying they have been forced to lay off workers because they can't get credit even though their business is better today than a year ago.
159,000 more unemployed today (44,000 more than was expected).

OK-just kidding. (grin) There isn't REALLY a crisis. We are just going to raise your cost of living to lower your standard of living so that the royalty can discern the poor pheasants from the elite tyranical elected officials.

"Go ahead Republicans, there's not going to be many of you left in 30 days. I just read that California needs a 7 billion dollar loan.I live in a state that has a balance budget and my tax dollars are gonna go to a welfare state that supports Mexico, nice. This is why Thomas Jefferson wanted a weak central government.
Ex Republican"
You do realize that California is Democratic run right? Has been that way for ages. So why would the Republicans be run out of office... We should start over on the 535 federally elected officials. They are all corrupted.

Tori - thank you for the totally off-topic, irrelevent and eternaly LONG post.
AS TO the topic, add more pork, especially when it is completely irrelevent to the need at hand, and you can pass any crap sandwich. Marshmallows anyone?

Its so sad. Good ole Abe is rolling over in his grave. So much for "... government of the people, by the people, for the people." The people are crying out to be heard - WE DON'T WANT THIS. But they will pass this anyway. Hey, what do they call a government where elite members of society are the only ones with a voice, and the government does what they want anyway without listenting to the voice of the people? That's a plutocracy if you ask me. And its just sad.

Definitely a sell out! Taxpayers who lkive paycheck to paycheck bailing out these rich, greedy bastards! Unfair and will lead to turmoil if this rescue plan passes. Corrupt!!!

they won't be voted out... too many depend on them to keep the money flowing from the taxpayers to the tax getters. And, anyways the polling places are controlled by their friends and they'll just cook the numbers....

This just proves that American voices do not count. What is the sense in even voting? It is a waste of time. Our government is messed up.
Posted by: Melissa | Oct 3, 2008 11:51:31 AM
too bad no one voted for ron paul. he seems to have taken an economics course or two as opposed to obama and mccain who just spew what theyve been told.
Posted by: will | Oct 3, 2008 11:54:44 AM
In my opinion, and the collective opinion of everyone I've spoken to, they've taken something really bad and appears from news reports that they have made it worse. And now they're going to pass it?

Nothing to see here my fellow Americans, let's focus on what's important...
Is there any sale going on at Nordstroms this weekend? I just got two new credit card offers in the mail and can't wait to go spend, spend, spend! Let's keep this orgy going Americans! This is great!
Good luck.

Jeff - Democrats are in charge of California and have run us into the ground.
Posted by: No Obama Never | Oct 3, 2008 12:01:04 PM
great....now all these clueless people who have no idea how important this is can get on with their clueless lives! And I'll still have a retirement. Remember it is confidence that makes everything happen. Continue to believe negative and you will get their. Thanks ABC for contributing to that in most of your articles.
ABC - do you have investments???? Doesn't look like it...you just want Barack so bad you don't care...crazy!

Posted by: Nik | Oct 3, 2008 12:06:34 PM
Arnold is a REPUBLICAN but the Democrats control the state legislature and they can't even get the budget straight.

let's just give in and we will see if this will work or not. since it's too late to change my voting registration of my party preference i won't be voting this year. so much for register, register. really do hope this works because certain people will look pretty bad when and IF it doesn't. really hope it does since we don't need more drama. we need and deserve peace not just from terrorists whose people we have tried to help, but from our own gov.
