The Note: McCain Brings Attack to Second Debate
October 07, 2008 8:52 AM
ABC News' Rick Klein reports in Tuesday's Note:
NASHVILLE -- Now that the race is suddenly less about what you know than it is about who you once knew, the real question is not -- as Sen. John McCain would have it -- who the real Barack Obama is.
The real question is: Who is the real John McCain? (And is he listening to Sarah Palin?)
McCain and Obama enter Tuesday night’s second presidential debate at Belmont University with a real sense of a race that’s slipping away from McCain -- and a growing realization in GOP circles that the Republican ticket has a dwindling number of chances to reclaim the narrative.
(If the national polls don’t convince you -- take Ohio, please.)
McCain gets the format he wants, but not the backdrop. If the debate follows the logical progression of the week, we will continue down the path of least subsistence into out-and-out, guilt-by-association name-calling -- led there, in all likelihood, by McCain, whose campaign is trying to thrust “character” into a campaign that may not welcome it.
Read the rest of The Note -- and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day -- from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.
Does McCain want to go there? Will/should even nasty attacks register when compared to the psychological blows arriving in mailboxes these days, depicting shattered 401(k)s? And with Tuesday night’s town-hall format, does a candidate want to throw bombs when there are civilians in range?
It may be too late for those choices: It’s on, and it’s ugly. In the run-up to the debate No. 2, McCain and (particularly) Palin have gone personal -- and Team Obama responded by bringing up the Keating 5.
“Who is the real Barack Obama?” McCain said Monday (with now-casual references to Obama’s “lies”), per ABC’s Jake Tapper and Bret Hovell. “Even at this late hour in the campaign there are things we don’t know about Senator Obama or the record that he brings to this campaign.”
And -- going further, but still not as far as she wants to go -- Palin “invoked fear for the first time when discussing Sen. Barack Obama’s connection to former 60’s radical William Ayers,” per ABC’s Imtiyaz Delawala.
“I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way that you and I see America -- as the greatest source for good in this world,” said Palin, R-Alaska.

Many Americans tuned in for the Palin vs Biden debate, hopefully just as many tune in tonight. I know I personally cannot wait to see the Second Presidential Debate tonight between Barack Obama and John McCain.

As a state senator, Democrat Barack Obama awarded $75,000 in government grants to a Chicago social service organization led by a rabbi who is also his wife’s cousin, records show.
In 1999, Obama arranged for $50,000 for adult literacy and counseling services offered on Chicago’s South Side by a group called Blue Gargoyle. A $25,000 grant for the group’s youth services followed the next year.
The group’s executive director when the grants were awarded was Capers Funnye, a South Side rabbi and Michelle Obama’s first cousin once removed.
Funnye (pronounced fun-NAY) said Monday there was nothing improper about the way Blue Gargoyle obtained the grants. Obama did not encourage him to apply for the money, he said, and Funnye denied using family connections to pressure Obama to approve the application.

On Anderson’s Cooper 360 they did a major investigative look at the Ayers/Obama connection.
Money Quote:
“But the relationship between Obama and Ayers went much deeper, ran much longer, and was much more political than Obama said.”

just like he did with Keating
just like he didn't care about the trillion we wasted on the war
just like he did with gramm

Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was Obama's actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?
This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.
Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.
Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign. He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them.
Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed? If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn’t he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won’t tell you, but you deserve an answer.

It is about time someone attacks Obama. Let the truth be told. Someone has to have the guts to get it all out there, the media certainly was to afraid to report the truth, or maybe it is just that they wouldn't do anything that might hurt Obama's chances. The media has done alot to cause damage to this country and the public is finally waking up to that fact. We must DEMAND the truth and insist that those that want to expose Obama not be silenced. Don't be so ignorant that you do not listen to all that has NOT been said. It is very important for the future of this country.

The Constitution being thrown under the bus?Barack Obama is displaying a disservice to every citizen of this country, to our Constitution, to the millions that donated hundreds of millions of dollars to Obama’s campaign. I value the United States Constitution, our ideals, and respect our forefathers that wrote the Constitution so many years ago. Whether Phil Berg’s suit against Barack Obama is “for real or not”, the documents should be presented to the courts. Why hasn’t Barack Obama if he is holding the proper documents turned around with his lawyers and tell Phil Berg to drop the suit, or I will sue you. Prevent the biggest scam yet against the American people and demand that Barack Obama supply the courts with the proper documentation. The Democratic Party said two years ago there is nothing wrong with Fannie Mae---no bills before Congress allowed to fix because there was no problem. The Democratic Party is now saying that Barack Obama has a birth certificate but so far ONLY the “certification of birth” viewed by certain individuals from FactCheck that can be obtained after the fact by any dishonest means? The suit will be immediately dropped with the documents presented to the courts, yet Obama and the DNC hired lawyers to fight discovery and the facts. N

Keep "b slapping" em O!
The Great White NOPE is losing it!
The cynics can't seem to realize that their ship with Admiral McChicken at the helm is taking on water FAST. With every passing day, the ship sinks deeper and deeper.
They keep WHINING while we keep WINNING. Can anyone show me a battleground state with 15 or more electoral votes that Obama doesn't have locked up?
THIS IS GOING TO BE A LANDSLIDE!

If you want to dig into every hole that anyone was ever in let's go here:
GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.
The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.
The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter.
These were death squad, folks...

Has anyone ever been to the South Side of Chicago ??? I have - many times .
The residents there have been surviving in sub-standard conditions for years . There are no jobs , crime is rampant , and the housing conditions are so poor it is a complimentary exaggeration to call them slums .
The word ‘projects’ indicates a work in progress , but on the Chicago’s south side it takes on a different meaning - a stagnant , decaying slum . 11 of these deplorable buildings on the south side are owned by Obama’s friend Tony Rezco .
Obama funneled State money to Rezco to ” improve conditions in those buildings ‘ - never happened .
Obama also funneled $100,000 for a ‘ let them eat cake’ gazebo on the south side . The gazebo was never built even though I am sure that those families who are living in falling down buildings in crime infested neighborhoods were really hoping for a freaking gazeebo .
Sen. Obama handed his wife’s employer a 1 million dollar earmark . He requested 3 million to update a projector at the Sky Theater .
Trinity Church and Rev. Pfleger benifited from the 100 million dollars Obama doled out for the Annenberg Challenge which was SUPPOSED to have been used to help the failing public school system .
Some of the programs Obama turned down for grants were : The Chicago Algebra project , and The District 5 Math Initiative - both are worthy projects that the public school system desperatly needed to finance . Meanwhile , Obama’s buddies , and radical groups received millions .
When you go to vote this year , I would encourage you to check out the South Side of Chicago , Obama’s own Senate district . See what “Change” Obama has brought to his own district . Take a look at how his ‘leadership’ has ‘improved’ his own community , and then ask yourself , ” If Senator Obama doesn’t care about his own community, what will he do for me ?”
