The Note: Palin Well-Dressed -- but Not Wearing as Well

Share

October 22, 2008 8:59 AM

ABC News' Rick Klein reports in Wednesday's Note:

A lucky 13 days out, we’re wondering:

Do the votes in real America count differently than those in fake America?

Where do real Americans shop?

Is it better for Team McCain to waste time and money on Pennsylvania, or to waste whatever enthusiasm would vanish if the GOP wasn’t playing offense anywhere?

Will bashing the media win John McCain a single, real-life vote he wouldn’t have already gotten?

Read the rest of The Note -- and get all the latest on the 2008 election, Congress, the White House and the wide world of politics every day -- from Rick Klein by bookmarking this link.

Is it patriotic to question your opponents’ patriotism?

Does McCain have one long ball left in him? (One that has nothing whatsoever to do with “Joe the Plumber”?)

Does a long plane trip to Hawaii by Barack Obama freeze the race in place, or allow someone to drive a new message?

Does the fact that Sarah Palin is now the most accessible of the four candidates change anything at all?

It might, actually, but Palin has gone full circle in her brief time on the national landscape -- and the recent attempts at definition have gone about as well as that bridge we used to hear so much about.

She continues to get huge crowds, though the big headlines she’s getting are not for the right reasons. She influencing voters -- but not in the way McCain expected when he shook up the race by plucking her from obscurity. (Ask Colin Powell.)

Neither running mate has done his or her ticket many favors in recent days. And Palin -- buttoned up for so long, might have been better off staying that way (albeit with nicer buttons these days).

Not where she needs to be going: “Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin apologized yesterday for implying that some parts of the country are more American than others, even as similar comments by two Republican congressmen were causing a backlash that threatened their chances for reelection,” per The Washington Post’s Lyndsey Layton.

DEAR ABC: If you reported fairly and accurately on both sides of the campaign, perhaps the public would not have such a skewed and unflattering view of Gov. Palin. It is really a shame. Biden is a total joke and he is never held to account. Just ask Drew Griffen of CNN who laughingly agreed with Palin when she called him out on the bias to his face. But of course, that will not be reported.

GRIFFIN: Does Joe Biden get a pass?

PALIN: You need to ask your colleagues and I guess your bosses or whoever is in charge of all this, why does Joe Biden get the pass on such a thing? Can you imagine if I would have said such a thing? No, I think that you know we would be hounded and held accountable for -- what in the world did you mean by that, VP, presidential candidate? Why would you say that, that mark my words, this nation will undergo international crisis if you elect Barack Obama?

If I would have said that, you guys would have clobbered me.

GRIFFIN: You're right. You're right.

Wow! you guys are so out of touch it's incredible. Murtha calling people in his own state racists and rednecks.

Biden admitting Obama would be crouched under his desk in fear WHEN he gets tested

Colin who?

Who Cares? The voting has begun.

three letter word j-o-b-s.

Palin was not a good pick. period. She should stay away for interviews - I know we need a laugh sometimes but she keeps digging the hole deeper. The fact that she can't explain questions is just horrible. We can not afford this again. Bush is much smarter than Palin will ever be! period.

"Does the fact that Sarah Palin is now the most accessible of the four candidates change anything at all? " hopefull those few who still think she is capable of being Vice President or God forbid President will see the light.
The more she talks the dumber she looks.

The Palins are like trailer trash that just won the lottery.

Posted by: DMR | Oct 22, 2008 9:29:27 AM

I don't understand what you reporters want. Complain she is not available, now is too available. Why do you focus so much on her, because she is the easiest one to pick on. I saw the interview she did with CNN, I think she is great. Image if she has 20 months of time like Obama to campaign, she is better than him.

Susan:

ABC News did not skew the publics vision of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin did that to herself.

Her interviews were incredibly awful! She comes across as lacking in knowledge!

Have you read about her dealings in Alaska? You should read more, then we can talk!

Jenny,

how many letter in the word jobs?
can Chuck stand up for you?

Posted by: geevill | Oct 22, 2008 9:36:22 AM

DMR - funny but True!

geevill:

You should be in the spin room!

Posted by: Shay | Oct 22, 2008 9:36:35 AM

DMR - get a life. Does it make you feel big and strong to call people names?

Posted by: emma | Oct 22, 2008 9:38:56 AM

Full disclosure: Rick Klein and Ditto Hope cannot deny that they are both ardent Obama supporters. Nuff said.

Posted by: Q | Oct 22, 2008 9:39:31 AM

Beth - I too saw the interview. She has gotten much better not that there was much lowere she could go after Katie Couric. She is cute, zippy and funny. She is also in way over her head and does not seem to realize it. She is woefull unqualified to run anything except maybe Alaska. SHe has no clue as to how the federal govt works. Personally I was suprised she knew that the were three branches of Government. I wonder if she can name them?

Posted by: Jenny Rome Ga | Oct 22, 2008 9:40:58 AM

Gee- there are four letters in JOBS. Ask Sarah Palin the same question.

Posted by: Jenny Rome Ga | Oct 22, 2008 9:42:19 AM

Al-Qaida endorses John McCain, something to consider:
