The Note: Obama Seeks Measured Pace
November 06, 2008 8:54 AM
ABC News' Rick Klein reports in Thursday's Note:
What Rahm Emanuel knows as he prepares to take the most important job in the Obama White House:
1. Mandates and honeymoons sound really nice until you start counting votes.
2. There’s nothing’ in a thumpin’ that can’t be served right back.
3. John Dingell and Dave Obey didn’t need Barack Obama to become chairmen -- and don’t need him to stay chairmen, either.
4. It was easier to keep the Rahm pace before he had kids.
5. He’d rather be on this team than any other [bleepin’] team right now.
6. Not taking the job he’s been offered would cause a bigger public snafu for his friend than anything he went through during the course of his campaign.

The early moves in the transition period may say more about the kind of president Obama will be than anything he did or said during the campaign.
(And, in reverse, the early words pouring out of what was once the McCain-Palin campaign tells us more about what kind of operation that really was -- and that there’s at least a few someones still gunning for Sarah Palin.)
In turning to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., for chief of staff, Obama is signaling that he wants to get things done, not make friends, and not let fears of public perceptions guide his early choices.
When Obama and Vice-President Elect Joe Biden get their first round of full-on security briefings on Thursday, they’ll be continuing to learn far more than they say. (Still no press conference scheduled for of our newly elected ticket -- though there’s at least that possibility on Thursday).

Obama won for his ability to seduce the people. With The power of suggestion, his smooth motivational speeches, code words and intense advertisments and propaganda and constant repitition.
He took the people down, then brought them up, then pumped them up. he told them what their problems were, told them what they needed, he told them what they wanted. Until they beleive that was their feelings and Ideas. Using their personal lives and problems of the times to play their minds.
He gave them a common enemy, Blaming everything wrong in their lives on bush the government, McCain and the republican party.
He made up stories to fit into their lives like he was one of them and knew how they felt and what they needed. No cared about them besides him. no one could help them but him. He was their arc and the only one who could help them and change government.
He used fear to guide them, Threatening if they did not choose him their lives would get worse. With him only change will come and they would have a better life.
Progressively and in a timely manner working their minds, pumping them up to beleive he was the one. He was what they needed to make their lives great.
Now he will use the same to take you down, lower your expectations, of the things he promised you.
Then resort to the same efforts to talk you into something new.
The power of playing minds.
(he knew about the economy for how long now?)

The American Idol phenomenon! Americans are obcessed with celebrity, it's simple when you look at it and Obama played it really well (not that it's a bad thing, win at all costs) Reality sets in now and we will see how he does as president.

Your party was sent packing. Palin back to the hicks in the sticks and McCain to shame. Get over it. Your new president will be turning this GOP mess around.

---Robert Gibbs, a top aide to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on his campaign and in his Senate office, will be named the White House press secretary, a top Democratic official said.
Gibbs was usually the senior official on Air Obama, the campaign plane. As communications director of Obama's Senate office, Gibbs was a key strategist on Obama's rapid move to the national stage.--
Shocker! I was really expecting Obama to name Keith Olberman as his press Secretary.

Palin is the Republican Party's Valdez disaster. It will take them years to recover, if at all.

democratic...Actually Obama was the Republican's Valdez..Should take about 4 years to recover...........

From CNN, talking about Obama's first appointment, Rahm Emanuel.
Democratic strategist Paul Begala, describes Emanuel's aggressive style as a "cross between a hemorrhoid and a toothache."
Let the healing begin.

To Vladimir Putin, “Change” consists of missile deployments on the frontiers of NATO. Russian president Dmitri Medvedev announced the move yesterday in a speech that never once mentioned the new American President-elect, but caustically criticized the Western approach to Moscow. Medvedev also reversed course on missile disarmament in western Russia:
President Medvedev ordered missiles to be stationed up against NATO’s borders yesterday to counter American plans to build a missile defense shield.
Speaking within hours of Barack Obama’s election, Mr Medvedev announced that Russia would base Iskander missiles in its Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad – the former German city – next to the border with Poland.
He did not say whether the short-range missiles would carry nuclear warheads.
Taking advantage of the world’s attention on the US elections, Mr Medvedev also cancelled plans to withdraw three intercontinental ballistic missile regiments from western Russia by 2010.
This would appear to be the first major challenge to Obama, even though he has not yet taken office. Russia carefully watched as Obama denigrated missile-defense research and deployment during the primaries, and then remained carefully silent about it in the general election. They want to see whether they can intimidate Obama into retreat, even after eastern European nations like Poland and the Czech Republic have already signed onto a partnership with the US for these missile-defense stations.
Joe Biden warned that the Neophyte Obama would face just such a test early in his term. He also warned that Obama’s reaction would NOT look like SMART strategy, and told Obama supporters that they would have to stick by him while Obama received massive criticism for his actions. One can interpret that in two different ways: either Obama’s response would anger his supporters, or it would anger everyone else.
One hopes that Obama sticks to American commitments in the region. Given his comments about ENDING missile-defense research and deployment, Obama will run away from Russia on this point, and that the first Medvedev/Putin-Obama confrontation will remind people even more of the disastrous Kennedy-Khrushchev summit in 1961 that gave us the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I say we cut loose those "commitments" in other parts of the world. Let's concentrate on problems here at home. A nation cannot have a strong military without a strong and thriving economy.

So, is it too soon to ask....Obama, what are you going to do about this economy, Obama what are you going to do to create jobs for the 25% who drop out of high school- after all they deserve health care a house a car and a good life too, don't they, Obama what are you going to do about the recent increase in violence in urban areas, Obama what are you going to do to help all those kids who voetd for you an easier life and cheaper tuition, Obama what are you going to do ab out Iranian nukes, will you throw Israel under the bus, Obama what are you going to do with Russia putting missiles along the Polish border, Obama what are you going to do to keep gasoline prices from getting so high again. Obama, when you bankrupt coal what are we foing to fuel the power plants with?
Posted by: david | Nov 6, 2008 11:59:48 AM
Pres. Putin was likely to do this regardless of the outcome of this election. This is a test for a Pres. Elect from the Soviet Union and Pres. Obama will handle in his way and differnetly than a Pres. Elect McCain. The economy is still shaking and Russia is just as effected as we are and it would not serve there purpose to create more trumoil in Europe. I believe this will be handle quietly and through back channels rather than with a show of force. Pres. Putin is every bit as interested in the stock market as we are and it would be FOOLISH to pluck the Golden Apple of commerce for a few minutes of PRESS.

david - Obama doesn't take office until January, so there isn't much he can do until then, and must wait to see how much more damage dubba can do during the remaining transition time.
The first thing he can do to help the economy is get his tax plan in place. That will provide an immediate economic stimulus and provide some revenue generation which will go towards closing the deficit gap. Other measures will take some time due to the amount of damage already done.. he can't just wave a wand and make it all better. Getting us out of Iraq will be a great start, but that is probably at least a year or two out at this point.
And you do seem to be completely unaware of Obamas stance on enabling Americans to realize their ambitions. There are no hand-outs, and if those 25% of kids who drop out of high school have no desire to better their lives, then any opportunities to do so will do little good. Yes, they deserve health care, and yes, they deserve homes, but not if they are not willing to work for them, just like any other citizen of this country.
As for nukes, first step IMHO would be to re-initiate the nuclear non-proliferation treaty that bush broke. Talks with Iran (who do not have nuclear weapons) about nuclear power and inspections (which they have indicated they are willing to accept) would be a good start. Russias recent moves I believe were just to envoke a response to test the waters. They are (or at least were) an ally that would rather work with us than oppose us. At least now we will have some intelligence in office that can do just that.
Gas prices? That's easy.. close the enron loophole, which is the reason those prices have been all over the board. That simple change will reduce natural gas prices to somewhere around pre-2000 prices and drastically reduce gasoline prices almost as much.
Coal industry going bankrupt? Afraid not.. you apparently bought into the GOP 'pick-n-choose' sound bite game. Even fox news has debunked that one.

This will be four years of an unleashed, unquestioned administration, that dribbling drooling idiot Chris Matthews this morning on Morning Joe said that it was his job as a Journalist to make sure that Obama succeeds. No you idiot, it is your job as a Journalist to hold his feet to the fire. This is exactly why Journalism was lost this year, it is not more, there is no ethics left in Journalism. What an idiot.

Obama won because he seduced the people and blaming everything on the republicans and bush for everything??? ABSURD.
Obama is a very well educated and sees what's going on. He knows how to speak to people. Maybe Palin should have taken a lesson from him - you betcha!!!!!! Why is our country is so much financial trouble - who's in office? BUSH
There are many reasons Obama won. People are tired of the last eight years and Palin DID LOSE HIM VOTES. She is so unaware of the economy, foreign policy and couldn't even tell a third grader what a VP does, and Africa is a continent or what newspaper she reads.
There are a lot so concerned about his color - what about the person he is?? He is also part white. Are any of you as well educated as he is, can speak as well as he does and care about his family as he does????
McCain has military experience and political experience, but why would someone, who could have been nominated pres - but his choice of Palin dragged him down. She was looking out for herself - 2012 here she comes. She had better learn a few things before she has any idea of running for office.
Sure Obama is going to be tested when he is sworn in. McCain would have been tested too.
If any of you work, did you start your job and knew everything pertaining to your job? Didn't any of you need help or training when you started????????

The country's in so much trouble because of Barney Franks, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the radical Democrats. Yeah, Bush and the other Republicans are really into sub-prime mortgage schemes and social engineering.
Give me a break.
The economy was moving up under Bush despite 9-11, the Saddam threat and the wars. It took two years for the Dems to screw it all up. This Bush-bashing is going to wear off eventually, and, hopefully we'll see people voting in SANE Democrats into Congress and/or Republicans who put their country and the citizens first over pushing their ideologies.
Also, remember when that man stood up and spoke at an Obama rally and Obama told him that he could tear up Sean Hannity? Did Fox News go out and look up that man's personal and legal history? Were Republican officials airing out his dirty laundry? No. Sean had a very nice interview with that gentleman, and the man wasn't demonized for disagreeing with the conservative line.
Now, Joe Wurzelbacher...that was a different matter.
And if that doesn't scare you as an American citizen then you're in with them or simply in denial.
The very first thing Mr. Obama's doing is consolidating his personal political power. If you believe that's in our country's best interest, then there really is no hope for you...or the rest of us.

social engineering is a hacking technique man, where have you been ? an actual bush supporter, wow! and a bitter one too in denial himself yet (classic projection) he externalises his own denial to others. its bushes fault he pursued an illegal war and spent all your countries money in a fruitless exercise which ruined your economy. you lost. get over it.
Posted by: kris | Nov 7, 2008 8:15:21 AM
also. one other thing i just wanted to mention. you lost OVERWHELMINGLY. heheheh...
