Fighting Off Global Recession Can Make a World Leader Hungry
November 14, 2008 7:39 PM
ABC News' Jon Garcia reports: Call it the meal fit for leaders of 20 economies fighting off, at best, a global recession or, at worst, economic meltdown.
Those leaders certainly won't be hungry when they start their meetings tomorrow after their formal dinner tonight in the White House State Dining Room.
Witness the menu being served to the likes of Germany's Angela Merkel, China's Hu Jintao and Russia's Dmitry Medvedev: they begin with fruitwood smoked quail with quince gastrique and quinoa risotto. To go with the quail will be a 2006 chardonnay.
The main course? Thyme-roasted rack of lamb with a tomato, fennel and eggplant fondue served with a 2003 cabernet.
And don't forget the Lolla Rosa, red oak and endive salad with cider vinaigrette and baked Vermont brie with walnut crostini. Finish the meal with a pear torte and huckleberry sauce and a glass of sparkling Chandon Etoile Rose.

here is your peoples problem.........politics...get over it I can not stand Obama but the article is NOT about Obama or Palin.....it is about ritzty ritz state dinners.
I am an undergraduate student and am assured that the above "ivy leagers" are profoundly stupid in that they cannot even ascertain the subject matter of an article.
Thank God I will not attend them who needs that kind of education.

GOP -
If dem voters are responsible for what is to come, then you are responsible for the past eight years. Pay up the trillion dollar deficit and get us back to the Clinton surplus. The payments should just come from you who voted Bush/Cheney and got us into this mess.

for crying out loud - Gallo makes a 2006 Chardonnay. Do you people expect the world leaders to get together over a bologna sandwich, a bag of chips, and a bottle of yoo hoo? They've dedicated a large part of their lives to looking after the rest of us. give them a break and let them enjoy their meal in peace.

cturple,
You forgot Obama's buzz word, "Mid-class".
Who cares about world leaders? Exept they should share their wealth with the world.
You said, "Do you people expect the world leaders to get together over a bologna sandwich, a bag of chips, and a bottle of yoo hoo?" What's wrong with that? I thought they got together to discuss global recession, not "over" a gourmet meal necessarily.
Mid-class! Mid-class! Mid-class! Don't you blow Obama's cover!

Come on Julia, we already know Michelle doesn't go overboard with her clothing costs. You really want to see her in the same dresses repeatedly.
They do out to dinner together. Wow! Well that is how to keep a marriage going. Would it be better if they went to McDonalds. Some of us would make that our night out together, or maybe bowling. Wouldn't make me feel better to see everyone doing likewise. As to the hair - do you have some inside knowlege as to her not doing it herself. I see no extravagence here. Their kids make their beds and have to pick up there room. This says more about this family than husband taking wife out on her birthday or anniversary.

John hit the hammer on the head. This meal sounds like something you could get as a friday night special at Appleby's. I think I've taken my friends out to more expensive dinners only 30,000 dollar a year paycheck.
Attacking what is clearly a less than fancy meal being served by a group of chefs who probably work daily in the white house cafeteria is hilarious. When are Americans going to start worrying about real issues?
