Obama Girls to Visit the White House
November 18, 2008 4:24 PM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: A week after she toured her new home alongside her husband, President-elect Barack Obama, on Tuesday, Michelle Obama brings her daughters and her mother to the White House at the invitation of first lady Laura Bush.
Mrs. Obama is in Washington this week looking for new schools with her two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. But their future residence also warranted a visit, so with Michelle's mom, Marion Robinson, the four will head across town this afternoon to the White House.
President Bush's daughters Jenna and Barbara are also planning to be in town for the visit.
"In addition to bringing the girls to D.C. to visit choices for their new schools, to make sure they find the right fit, Mrs. Obama and her family are also visiting the White House briefly this afternoon," Mrs. Obama's spokeswoman Katie McCormick Lelyveld said in a statement. "The first lady graciously invited Mrs. Obama, her mother and the girls to visit what will be their new home. Of course, Mrs. Obama greatly appreciated this invitation to provide an opportunity for the girls to feel at home and be comfortable in this transition process."
Meanwhile, the nation's future president spent the day in Chicago, attending meetings at his transition headquarters along with Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
ABC News' Jennifer Duck contributed to this report.

It didn't take long for someone to jump in with a negative comment, we should have expected that. Anything to do with the new first family is going to be printed, get used to it.
Laura Bush was gracious to invite the Obamas. Good grief. Critics will have a long 8 years if they don't get a grip.

Ryan,
I fear you may pop a vein in your brain.
Take it easy buddy.
I did not vote for Obama out of guilt OK. His policies were better than McCain's. now that he is bringing Hillary on, I feel even better.
Some of you are just pigs. Gush.

atlanta3430.... Why are tax payers footing the bill to have a Barney live in the White House?....Yes, we pay for Bush dog Barney and Mrs. Beasley to run around the White House to pee on the White House floor.
Mrs. Obama mother is a blessing to the White House. Oh, by the way Laura Bush mother lives in the White House too!

Why are the taxpayers footing the bill to have Michelle's mother stay in the White House?

Where does it even say that?

Laura Bush has been an excellent first lady and she has kept that positive role for others to see. The hatred some spew is not what Laura has shown the world and I think Michelle will follow in her footsteps.

I for one would like to see a first lady that rides motorcycles, smokes, and drinks gin!

WHAT IF:
Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it.
Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?
Ponder the following:
What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.) What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obama's had adopted a white child?
You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Obama's mother-in-law, Mrs. Robinson has said that she's not enthusiastic about living in the White House; she'd rather have her own home. However, if she does live there, I hardly think that she will cost taxpayers much money. Maybe a little extra electricity and hot water? One more place to be set at meals? She won't be receiving a salary, after all, and no security coverage.
She would not, moreover, be the first mother-in-law to live in the White House. I believe that the mothers-in-law of both Truman and Eisenhower were in residence.

I voted for Mr. Obama, adn I for one like to hear what is going on with his family. I am sure other parents discuss this with their children, how these children will be moving and attending a new school. Some of us are interested, if you are not don't read it.To me it is pleasent news, after all of the bad news that we hear daily, job loss, stock market down, so it is nice to hear
what two young girs are doing. I also agree that Laura Bush is a class act, and this was a nice thing for her to have Michele, her daughters and Mother to the White House.

This is not Camelot, stop the madness....This was a media driven event. He was sold by the media while celebrated on every pop culture magazine and TV show. America is fed up. Right now he is a shooting star, But with the constant media hype, and pretense of invincibility. Millions expect the impossible from him. Hope the media is ready for the backlash; after all, we all know what happens to a shooting star.

Marcus...You must be that proud 29% who still support Bush no matter what he does. Anyway, I happy to see the New First Family getting along well with the outgoing former first family.
It's also fun to see the 29% supports go nuts at the sheer thought of the Obamas living in the White House. Fun Four years for us ahead folks...

Why are people more concerned about the Obama girls moving into the White House then the success that's going on in Iraq right now? Why no mention of that? Strange huh? "We support the troops" my a$$! We support you when your home is more like it! Idiots!
Posted by: Dorks | Nov 18, 2008 6:29:14 PM
Kay - learn to see both sides
Joyce
.................
I do see both sides one is a bitter washed up loser blaming the winner for being the winner. Get Over it you lost! Even Laura Bush has moved on to bad the dead enders like you are stuck in the past. The glory days of the Republican party ended the day Bush stole the election from Gore. Now your all paying the price.

I dislike George W. Bush and I lost almost all respect for him over the years, but he was/is our President. I didn't and I don't like Laura's political positions nor her party - all that being said Laura Bush was a good First Lady. While she didn't go too many extra miles either in social involvment or use her own office for relief of some of the world's pain - she held her own - and being the wife of George Bush takes a whole lot of character and style and Laura Bush has it. I think Mrs. Obama also has character and style and so it probably is quite easy for them to communicate. Some of you also need to look into what Laura has been up to of late - looking for a home near a metro city in Texas (she doesn't want to be stuck on the ranch) and assisting in the Presidential Library (of which she will of course hold a major role). Laura Bush is not one dimensional - the trouble (because of George led around by the nose by Cheney and the neo-cons) the full rainbow remained hidden. I sincerely hope she blossoms into another Texas rose once out of the White House - we need them.

Dear Ryan, Bush has already done what your hopeing for. You need to be more informed.
