Obama Picks Tom Daschle as Health and Human Services Secretary
November 19, 2008 12:31 PM
ABC News' Jonathan Karl Reports: ABC News can confirm that President-elect Barack Obama has chosen former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Sources confirm to ABC News that Daschle, who was the Senate Majority Leader when Bill Clinton was president, has accepted the offer.
An early supporter of Obama, Daschle endorsed the president-elect in February 2007 and was tapped to oversee Obama's health transition team.

So what happened to change? So far it is just another “blast from the past”. Does anyone recognize the word cronyism? The new wind that was supposed to blow into Washington on Jan 20 is turning out to be just stagnant air.

Some "Change", same ol' faces, with the same ol' problems. Thanks O'bomba!

Jessica,
Guess what???? The leader gets the blame or the glory. In this case it is George W. Bush. It goes with the territory!! You need to read the rule book before you play to the game. Don't worry if he manages to do something great in the next 60+ days we will give him credit. LOL!!!

Lots of backseat drivers and monday morning quarterbacks here.
It is a strength, not weakness, to be comfortable enough to appoint adversaries to the cabinet. It is a strength to be able to forgive those who attacked you and not take it personally. It is absolutely too soon to judge any of these decisions.

MORE OF THE SAME!

For those of you who still don't seem to get it - CHANGE means a change from the last 8 years of failed policies, inaction and running this country in the ground. Obama is picking the people whom he thinks can get the job done - Smart, intelligent people like himself - doesn't matter that they may have been in the Clinton administration.

Jenny,
Colin Powell is a great choice for Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense but I am not sure he is interested in a public position.

Daschle is a great choice. He is very well organised, has line-management experience and knows how to manage Congress which will be essential in pushing and implementing Kennedy's health-care bill.
He was an independent Senate Majority leader and was one of Obama's earliest supporters.
Dean and Clinton both would have been good at HHS.

Those who are obsessed to see new faces have to think again.
You have forgotten that McCain brought a brand new face (Sarah Palin) who proved not to be aware of a lot of stuff.
We all witnessed the outcome of it.
There is no time at all for on job-training.

YES!! YES!! Let's find Colon Powell. What a man!! What a general! A Person who knows SOMETHING!!

With this latest proposed appointment
of Tom Dashle added to the many former
Clinton Administration Obama has
chosen it now appears that "change"
was merely a campaign slogan used by
a very cunning and conniving
"politics as usual" politician!
President-elect Obama should call
his Administration Change, What Change?

To all Obama bashers,
I have the President of France on the other phone line waiting for you to pick up!

I am sorry...this is Clinton Admin all over again. Obama should be distancing himself from OLD Washington like HE said was going to. Add to Hillary as possible SOS. Sleep in wolf clothing. But, of course, I been saying this for the start about Obama. He made Hillary look good. :>

Daschle was a highly partisan, angry Senate Majority Leader. He is the Tom Delay/New Gingrich of divisiveness and is responsible for the deplorable state of affairs between the parties which exists in DC. Horrible choice.

Daschle? Another loser comes back from the dead. Clinton 2.0!

I knew this would happened thats why I voted for Hillary in the first place I wanted the real mccoy.

stop2think - Maybe the change in this incoming Obama administration is that Obama is choosing the best and the brightest, even if they do come from the former Clinton administration. Maybe it kinda doesn't matter where his picks have been, as long as they have the brains. In a way it fits with the rest of Obama's non-conformist methods, such as "forgiving one's enemies" (read Joe Lieberman...). I think Obama knows exactly what he's doing.

Silly republicans. Stop with the clinton hating already. Change starts with Obama recruiting folks that have the experience to deliver his policies.
