Secretary of State Hillary Clinton? It's Being Considered

ABC News’ Martha Raddatz, Jake Tapper and Z. Byron Wolf report: Sen. Hillary Clinton, who was President-elect Barack Obama’s leading rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, is being considered for the job of secretary of state in the Obama administration, sources with knowledge of the transition process tell ABC News.

Discussions about Clinton, D-N.Y., being asked to accept the post are "very serious," an Obama source says.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has been considered a leading contender for the post. But last week, ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported on "Good Morning America" that Clinton also was in the running to be Obama’s secretary of state pick.

Though Clinton and Obama ran a contentious primary campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, Sen. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, both campaigned for Obama in the general election campaign against the Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Asked if Hillary Clinton would consider the secretary of state job, a former official in President Clinton’s administration said, "I think so. What would you rather do -- be senator or secretary of state?"

Asked about the reports on the Cabinet post and another report that Hillary Clinton went to Obama’s home base of Chicago today, senior Hillary Clinton adviser Philippe Reines said, "Any speculation about cabinet or other administration appointments is really for President-elect Obama's transition team to address."

Pushed on whether she physically went to Chicago, Reines said only that she had no public schedule today.

NO to Hillary CLINTON Secretary Of State....

I personally do not have respect for the CLINTONS.

They had their time in the White House.

Take a look at their reputations.

Dont do it Hillary, I agree with Jennifer, he will toss you under the bus, to save himself and eventually force you out of his Administration.

Excellent choice.

Worth the risk? Politically, perhaps. It would make a lot of women happy. But Bill Richardson, in my opinion, has nyxg more foreign relations experience, would do a better job (Islamic countries wouldn't take any woman seriously), and would be more loyal to the Obama administration.

Hillary supporters:
You and many of us Obama supporters are in agreement. NO to this.

GREAT CHOICE. I am so proud to be a Democrat to have a person of Hillary's caliber to be Secretary of State

And, ladies and gentlemen, it IS politics as usual, goodbye to "it is time for a change". Sounds like a bit of arm twisting on the Clinton's part as payback for supporting him, but of course they have never done that before!

It was mentioned in the post election insider reporting issue of Newsweek that there was disappointment in the fact that Hilary turned out to be a rather
mediocre leader during her failed campaign..not good for a presidential candidate, and probably not for a Secretary of State either.

So, lets spread the Clintonista poison in this new world of change.

Hillary Clinton will make an excellent Secretary of State because like Obama she is bright, articulate, astute and is seeking the best for America. Excellent choice! Hope he chooses her.

Barack Obama will be the best president that America has ever had and Hillary Clinton will be the best Secretary of State..because they sincerely want to make a difference to the lives of all Americans, quite unlike the Republicans who are only concerned about the rich

Apparently Obama is about the same old same old, not change. But if he doesn't bring the country to the brink of disaster, he still will have been the better choice. Nothing good, just not a disaster.

Go Hillary! Yeah!

Hillary won the primary and she should've been in the WH. I still believe that hussien obama , who is not a US citizen, should step down and let the real winner of the election, Hillary Clinton, to be our next President. Obama can spent the rest of his life in fedral prison for liying to American people.

It depends if she wants to be a second fiddle to Obama, or run again in 2012. That depends again on her estimate of where Obama will be politically in 4 years.

Let's keep Hillary in the Senate where she might help and cannot do much harm.

Serious Clinton fatigue. So much for CHANGE.

Hillary is a Brainiac! She Would Make Us So Proud! I'm Going To bed And Dreaming Of Her Securing Our Nation! You Go Girl!

Secretary of State. No problem. She can handle sniper fire (which is almost anywhere in the middle east) and can walk through the streets of Baghdad in her bullet proof pant suits or make a dash to the car from her flight landing in Kabul. She will obliterate Iran if it prepares to launch a scud and she can probably complete the Obama application without any baggage that has not been previously rummaged through. My personal preference would be Hillary as the secretary of Health and human services and making the universal health care happen for a change.

Not only would she be an excellent choice but she would bring in the rest of the true female Democrats into the fold. It was the younger voters who overwhelmingly voted Obama and in 4 to 8 years we will have another crop of young people voting Democrat, plus the older voters, over 65, who voted McCain will be dying off. The Republicans will never again get the minority black or hispanic vote as long as they cowtow to the white supremist groups. In my opinion, the Democrats will rule for at least the next 16 years barring a real catastrophe and until the Republicans can get their act together will either die off or will have to form a new party that aligns itself with the independents.

I think that she would be EXCELLENT!
