ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: President-elect Barack Obama has named Valerie Jarrett Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison, according to an Obama advisor.

One of Obama's closest confidantes, Jarrett has been friends with Obama and his wife, Michelle, since the President-elect decided to run for the Senate. Dubbed often as "the other half of Obama's brain," Jarrett was chairman and chief executive of real-estate firm Habitat Co. She also worked for Harold Washington, Chicago's first black mayor, and served as an advisor to Obama during his run for the White House.

Ed,

She is African-American and I doubt very seriously if she is Musllim. Jarrett was born in Shiraz, Iran, where her father, Dr. James Bowman, ran a hospital for children as part of a program that sent American doctors and agricultural experts to developing countries to help jump-start their health and farming efforts. At age 5, the family moved to London for one year, then returned to Chicago in 1963. Her father, who is of African American descent, is a pathologist and geneticist. He is currently Professor Emeritus in Pathology and Medicine, University of Chicago. Her great-grandfather was the first African-American to graduate from M.I.T., her grandfather was Robert Taylor the first black man to head the Chicago Housing Authority, and her father, Dr. James Bowman, was the first black resident at St. Luke’s Hospital. Though Ms. Jarrett has never worked in Washington, her great-uncle is Democratic powerbroker Vernon Jordan. Her mother, Barbara T. Bowman, is an African-American early childhood education expert and co-founder of the Erikson Institute for child development. She graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon, a New England boarding school, in 1974. She also received a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University in 1978, and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981.

Ed, Jarret is NOT IRANIAN. She is an African-American citizen who happened to be born in another country. She is a US citizen, due to the fact that she was born of two U.S. citizens who are African-American. It's no different if she were born in Germany as the daughter of someone serving in the military over there during WW II. Would you consider that child a German or a Nazi?

Ed says "Valerie Jarrett was chosen as Iranian of day". So what? Did you read the posts at the link that you provided? They are trying to figure out what she is, just like you are. Iranians, like many white Americans cannot recognize many African Americans when they see them because of preconceived notions of what Blacks should look like. She is an African-American woman, educated in a New England boarding school. I would say that given her family pedigree and education, you need not worry that she is a Muslim seeking to destroy this country.

I did not know "Valerie Jarrett was born in 1956 in Shiraz, Iran, about 570 miles south of Tehran." Did anybody know? Is she a Christian or Muslim

What's your point?

Another good pick. Jarrett is an intelligent, loyal friend who will continue to advise Obama as she has for years.

Someone spoke with stars in her/his eyes, "(Jarrett's) her family pedigree and education" that she couldn't be a terrorist.

And Lydia claimed that Jarrett is a loyal friend who will advise Obama for years.

People, we don't need an American Royalty here. I elected a president, not a royalty. A friend loyal to that elect, does not need to be flaunted as pedigree, either.

I will watch their performance and give my fair judgement. Any talk trying to obfuscate the views of the intlligent public is futile, and a waste of time, least appreciated. Hope Obama and Jarrett undersand, and stop "ruling" us. Thanks.

Anyone who doesn't support Obama watch out! Your posted comment will be deleted. The media has BOUGHT this election already. They are still not let us talk? Ridiculous!

Sixty-two seems about right for Jarrett's I.Q. Apparently she has had difficulty in understanding how American government works. On "Meet the Press" she announced that Obama would be ready to "rule" from day one. I didn't realize that our government could be classified as a monarch, "ruled" by a King Obama. I thought Obama would "lead" or "govern," but maybe those words aren't in her I.Q. challenged vocabulary. If she is "half of his brain" I really worry about the other half.

President Elect Obama's IQ is 166-171.

Posted by: Sarah | Nov 15, 2008 8:53:31 AM

Obama graduated form Harvard Law School Magna Cum Laude

The former Guidance Counselor of Obama's private Hawaiian school has supplied The Washington Post with a certified copy of

Obama's Stanford-Banai IQ Certification, one of which was taken in 1966 when he was a kindergardener in Hawaii before moving to Indonesia, and one which was taken as entrance protocol as a freshman in his private (extremely exclusive) Honolulu private highschool.

His IQ was clocked at 172 and 166 respectively (IQ's normally have a fluctuation of 6 or 7 points from test to test so that discrepency is normal).

That puts Obama in the certifiable clinical genius category.

Obama's campaign is apparently NOT HAPPY about The Washington Post preparing to disclose this, because they fear it adds to his reputation as not an "everyman" and being too "elitist".

Smart Choice! I like this! :)

Pres Elect O has such an incredible group to pick from for his admin. How truly refreshing. I was tired of stupid and have been for 8 long years. I can't believe the reign of stupidity has ended. So happy the voting majority wasn't fooled (again) by grampa and the hillbilly which would have lead to more years of embarrassment world wide. The US has been a joke to world leaders all this time. Seeing the leaders from other countries, it's obvious Bush makes their skin crawl.

In the debates, Hillary Clinton didn't even know who was the President of the Russia. She talked about landing in combat zones in Bosnia and working on the Northern Ireland peace accords, all lies. She is seen internationally as a fraud, and as a back woods lawyer who does deals, takes bribes and lies. They know her from the countless sleaze deals that came out of the Clinton white house. She would be an insult to the US as secretary of state.

The Secretary of State should be someone of impeccable integrity and decency. Someone who could command respect for their knowledge of geo politics and international relationships. Above all else, a person who is held in high esteem for their wise council and worldly wisdom. Bill Richardson and Valerie Jarrett qualify on merit.

The United States is trying to recover from the debacle of having the imbecile George Bush as head of state, a person who is universally despised around the world as an ogre. Now we are getting the Queen of Sleaze as secretary of state. Certainly Obama can do better.

I voted for change. If Hillary Clinton is secretary of state, I will vote for change again. Maybe McCain wasn't so bad after all.

what's with the i.q. test fetish? it doesn't mean anything. i mean if your i.q. is 40 points higher than everybody else then why are you on here bragging about it? and why make fun of Obama's i.q.?---he is president-elect and graduated top of his class from Harvard.

Sarah: LMFAO! What a glob of gue. Er... I mean yes, my 5-year-old has an IQ of 166. I know this because after she got done fingerpainting, she learned Latin and corrected a discrepency in Einsteins theory of the photoelectric effect.

sisterdearest09: you just described a well polished politician. Just like BO.
Slick, charismatic and able to convince voters of what they want them to believe. Bravo! Just what we need. More of that crap.

Brandon: Obama got into Harvard, great. And yes he's smart, but there are a lot of smart students. So why him and not another smart kid? Maybe because he's black? Maybe because of quotas? Affirmative Action? Equal Rights? People being scared of being sued for discrimination? Eh?
