Child's Remains Found Near Missing Girl's Grandparents' Home
December 11, 2008 11:51 AM
ABC News' Scott Michels and Lee Ferran report: The remains of a young child were discovered Thursday morning in a wooded area near the home of missing toddler Caylee Anthony's grandparents, ABC News has learned.
A child's skull was found by a utility worker who alerted authorities, according to officials from the Orange County Sheriff's office in Florida. While the identity of the remains are unclear, the proximity of its discovery to the grandparents' home has drawn growing attention from the media and law enforcement officials intent on solving the vexing case.
The child's disappearance has drawn national attention, since she went missing in June. Her mother, Casey Anthony, did not report the child missing until a month later and has been charged for the young girl's murder. Earlier this year, the child's picture appeared on the cover of People magazine.
Suspicion has grown around 22-year-old single mother Casey Anthony since she was arrested on charges including child neglect just a day after reporting her daughter missing. She remains in custody.
Casey Anthony became a person of interest to police after they found traces of chloroform and strands of hair similar to the young girl's in a car last used by Casey Anthony.
Police officially charged Casey Anthony with murder on Oct. 14.
A massive search effort drew thousands of volunteers from across the country but has been, as of yet, unsuccessful.

Unfortunately, I pray to God that it's little Caylee, so we can all move forward and lay her to rest. If you ask me, both the Casey and her mother should be in jail. I believe whole-heartedly that the grandmother is covering something up. I'm anxious to hear the DNA/test results

Correction: "Caylee"... didn't mean to reference Casey

Ironic...immediately after a decision was made NOT to seek the death penalty..Bingo..the body has been found. What can be said about a mother who harms her own child?

Perhaps this is Caylee... if so, how can a mother do this horrible thing to such an innocent child of God? Children are God's little angels and they should be treated as such. All I can say is, "May God have mercy on her mother's soul". Children are a gift from God!!!

May she be made to suffer a painful but short future for all of the pain she caused the beautiful little one and her loved ones. She is and never could have been a true mother.

THE MOTHER DIDNT DO IT. SO SHUT UP

Cindy and George need all of our prayers and we need a resolution ASAP to whether or not this is actually Caylee's remains. We all will be relieved and should call for a fair and speedy trial to lay this case and poor, innocent Caylee to rest once and for all. Nancy Grace is one heck of a persistent, thorough and hard working journalist/lawyer. WOW

My heart goes out to those grandparents. There's a saying in spanish, "don't cover the sun with your hand" and act as though its not there....that's exactly what the grandparents have done...driven by their love for their daughter....

May this child rest in peace, whomever it is.

What I can't believe is for all the search teams and law enforcement officials that were investigating, it took a utility worker to find the body! I'm elated the body has been found. If it is her, I hope they link Casey Anthony to it. I used to feel sorry for the grandparents until their story started changing to protect her.

Hug your kids tight tonight. Let's all be thankful that we are not in the Anthony's situation. Obviously Casey has some issues. I hope that Casey can get the mental help she so desperately needs. Putting her to death is not going to bring Caylee back. Her punishment should be living to an old age thinking everyday about what she did to her baby.

This has got to be Caylee. So close to the home. I pray the grandparent's haev closure. I don't think George and Cindy can wrap their minds around the fact that Casey killed her. That is a lot to swallow. Their denial protects them
psychologically.
But, intellectually, they already know.

Clark, how do you know she didn't do it?

Why does society not show more outrage when a parent kills a child? If these poor excuses for a human being don't want their child they should put it up for adoption. Couples who can't have children would be very happy to give their child the love and home that they deserve. It would be very easy to fry this woman but I hope that she is haunted by her little girl crying Mommy Mommy why are you doing this to me Why don't you love me I didn't do anything to you to deserve this

I wish some people would just not have children. It seems like some of the worst people tend to breed the most.

I just read on the Orlando Sentinel website that the area where the remains were found could not be searched in September as it was submerged in water. The area also has a lot of snakes. When the search group went back again, the area had been fenced off. It was just lucky someone was doing some work out there. I hope the tests area done quickly so this horrible story can have some closure.

So if this is Caylee I suppose the case isnt just circumstantial. That would mean easier to get a conviction. I didnt want the child to be dead, but it was apparent that the child probably was dead. If it is her body I hope she can finally be laid to rest properly and her mother can finally stop lying. I do not want to see the grandparents go on tv anymore defending their daughter.

So as I read the story of this young angel my skin crawls. I do not understand how anyone specially a mother could harm any child. I love nothing more than being a mother to my children. For her to be hurt and alone in the middle of know where left to be eaten by wild animals that is just horrible. I hold my children a little longer and thighter everytime I hear about stuff like this which seems more and more often. If you don't want them give them to someone that does or prevent having them.
