Condi Rice Plays for the Queen
December 01, 2008 7:18 PM
ABC News' Kirit Radia Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, an accomplished pianist, always envisioned playing at Carnegie Hall. Today, she got an arguably better gig.
Rice performed before the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace this evening, alongside the wife of her British counterpart and several members of the London Symphony Orchestra.
The group performed a piece by Brahms, Rice's favorite composer.
Rice rarely plays the piano in public. She performed earlier this year at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. She also played for a gathering of diplomats at the ASEAN meetings in 2006.
Rich received from the Queen an audio recording of the recital as a gift. Rice met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband early in the day. She stopped in London Monday on her way to Brussels for a meeting of NATO leaders.
Also on Monday, Rice praised Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., when asked about her selection by President-elect Barack Obama to be her successor at the State Department.
"The first time that I met Senator Clinton was actually a world away from Washington, when she brought her freshman daughter to Stanford University where I was provost. And so our relationship goes back quite a long way. And I am very fond of her," said Rice.
"I think she has worked very hard on behalf of the country. I think she really comported herself very well in the campaign. And she’s an inspiration to a lot of people and a lot of - not just women, a lot of people. I know that she will bring enormous energy and intellect and skill to the position."

Hillary Clinton has had many roles in government, but she will never be Condi's predecessor at State.

Too bad we're seeing this side of Condi Rice as she's exiting. Is she starting to get off a leash?

Condi Rice is a bigger idiot than her supporters. She is a disgrace to the United States and nothing but a brown nosing, propaganda spitting little screwup!!!!

The Queen will not be so amused with Condos replacement. The Queen of Sleaze is a real piece of Trailer Rubbish.

Great playing Condi. I always had a feeling condi liked Hillary and I also have a feeling she voted for Obama.

All pretense of Bush being a President is now gone. Those remaining in the administration are showing their true selves, from Cheney the Louse to Rice the Lady.

She's trying to change her image from a blood-sucking war monger to a pacifist...
No deal: she started war. She is a war criminal!

Nice playing. I admire both Rice and Hillary, two brilliant women.

Interesting how posters here read more into this than what it was: a chance to perform for the queen with GREAT accompaniment.
Condi may be the smartest secretary of state we have ever had. She has also had the hardest gig.
Good job, Condi.

I think Condi has done an OK job for the most part. But I think Hillary will do better because she has had some experience as an international presence/"diplomat" while she was First-Lady.

How can you people defend Rice's pitiful job as SOS, she is a joke, just like her "husband" oh, I mean the president.

Secretary Rice did NOT play before the 'Queen of England'. The last Queen of England was the Scottish Stuart Monarch, Queene Anne, in 1707; and since then there has never been, and never will be, another Queen, or King, of England. All British monarchs are now 'Queen (or King) of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland or, to make it simple - 'The British Queen'.
If you call Elizabeth 11 'Queen of England', where does that leave the Scots, the Welsh, the Irish?
If you report the news, at least check your facts first. How would you like it if we said Obama would be president of Chicago?

I think Condi is a great woman and has done a great job as Sec. of State.
I find it wonderful that the Queen thought she was grand enough to perform for her.
Hill will never be respected like Condi, Hill is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
The rest of the world sees her as a joke, so what can she accomplish! Nothing!
O only wanted her there so she wouldn't hold him up and would not run against him 2012.
To bad she agreed to take the job!
Now she is a laughing stock!

I really admire Condi Rice. She's contributed so many of her talents to the world.

Dr. Condoleeza Rice is an impressive woman, an accomplished musician, and a smart lady. I wish we have all had more opportunity to see her musical side! Goodness knows she had a tough job as Secretary of State working for a President and VP who wouldn't really let her practice diplomacy.

Condi will be back - someday - in the Obama administration.
