Rice Makes Brief but Significant Stop in Pakistan
December 04, 2008 5:48 PM
ABC News' Martha Raddatz and Kirit Radia Report: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a short visit to Pakistan today, but the gravity of her meetings outweighed the brevity of her stay.
Rice was there to pressure Pakistan to cooperate with rival India's investigation into last week's deadly terror attacks in Mumbai. Her visit came one day after Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Pakistani officials in Islamabad and after Rice met officials in New Delhi. Secretary Rice urged India to avoid a rash response to the massacre, such as military strikes in the area from which the attackers are believed to have come.
Administration officials say Rice was pleased with the outcome of her meetings, but cautioned that Pakistan must now turn its verbal commitments to fight terror into action. Rice pressed the Pakistanis to shut down terror training camps inside the country.
U.S. officials say Rice presented Pakistani officials with the latest U.S. intelligence as to the origin of last week's attack. U.S. intelligence believes the attackers came from Pakistan, but has not yet concluded who was financing the operation, and training and equipping the assailants.
According to a senior administration official, there are indications the group had help from an outside group, like al Qaeda, but the U.S. has not yet found hard evidence.

Condo Rice is first and foremost a lawyer for big oil. Her number one priority is to keep a corridor available through Pakistan for a pipeline through Afghanistan to the Caspian oil reserves. All this talk about terrorism is just a small glich. I am sure they can come to some kind of an agreement.

Indian FM gave sound bites and Rice came to Islambad to repeat those words with arm twist.
US and India not looking those elements which burned Samjhota Express - Yes I mean Indian Army and Indian Intelligence and Hindu Extremists from Gujrat and key person is Narinder Modi the Chief Minister. US also dont have to forget massacre of 35 Sikhs in Indian Kashmir just before Clinton visiting India, It was blamed on Pakistan but later proved it was act of Indian Army and Indian Intelligence just like Samjhota Express.
By the way Indian Army play these games with life of Non-Hindus, like in Mumbai 80 peoples were Mulims and other 70 peoples were Christians and Jews and peoples died in Samjhota Express were Muslims from Pakistan.
Musharaf was doing good fighting with Terrorists, but somehow Bush thought Zardari is better for him and forced Pakistan to take him back and allow him to keep $16 billions empire which came from looting of Pakistan by a deal known as NRO in Pakistan. Peoples of Pkaistan cant understand what realy US stands for Corrupt thieves of Pakistan is imposed by sham democratic process.
World is calling it democracy but while Afetr Zardari, his son Bilwal will become ruler of party and Pakistan - I think this is called monarchy

Sohail, Zardari's son happens to be the heir to the Bhutto political dynasty. Zardari is assuming the post in order to allow him to complete his education. This is not monarchy, this is regency

Queen Dies then King takes over and thorone is waiting for prince until he is ready to take over - copy cat of current UK's Royal Family.
Bob, You don't have to legitmize it by calling it Regency.
WHERE IS THE DEMOCRACY? Why party can't pick other leader by normal process like they have is western countries????
Bhtto and Sharif are running an empire they come to pakistan spend $100 million each, Sharif in Punjab and Bhutto Royals in Fed govt, why the time they leave Pakistan in coming Years, thier networth will be up by atleast $5 billion each family. Then they will be sitting in Palaces they owns around the world. and cycle will continue

Bunch of Bull. Pakistani government isn't going to get rid of the extremists. They are powerless. These extremists probably will overthrow the gov't and the country will become poorer and poorer and more barbaric as with Somalia. And they will pick a fight with India because India is becoming wealthier and wealthier without babarism.

Pakistan is the root cause of most of the terror in the world. Its population either consists of terrorists or else of terrorist sympathizers who are always in the state of denial. For the sake of peace in the world I wish Pakistan ceases to exist for once and for all.

Well Steven, speculations are nice but ground realities need to be understood. Many people like you, along with your "always guessing" intelligence agencies, just because you happen to read a few books, start believing in something that is not even close to the truth. Your wish will stay a wish till you die, however, on behalf of Pakistan and its residents, I would like to inform you that we are peace loving but it doesnt mean we are not ready for anyone who tries to missunderstand our love for peace with our dedication to prevent ourselves and our territory. This is where we are different. And we do not like to speculate about things we have not experienced, therefore, all this puts Pakistanis in a much more credible picture than you and your like-minded bunch.
Pakistan is fighting terrorism and there have been lives lost in doing so. If you cant appreciate that, you are a shame to the entire human race.

t42 you are right, Pakistani are barbarics, does it gives you satisfaction, and one more thing Hindu extremists in BJP party are the kindest people in earth and more for you brave countries who dont need terrorists thier arm forces just go and bombs nations around the world are most civilized and human nation.
India under the rule of Hindu extermist acrried out murder of Musims in India which killed over 300k muslims but they are still called blah, blah, blah

Pakistan army and ISI both have more power than pakistan government. Also some part of pakistan is not under the control of pakistan government. That is total mess.

Lets promote this Idea
Pkaistna builds wall on Kahsmir and Afghanistan border - but that is not acceptable to US, now you can guess what is mess Pakistan have in thier hand

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE. NUKE PAKISTAN.
Haven't we all had enough of these terrorists? When Islamagood is a glowing crater, the world can get back to wearing shoes through airports, and enjoying airplane flights, dinner at a restaurant, or a train ride without Sohail and Ahsan setting off their BackPaks in our faces.

Like they would care what she has to say.

Pakistan has been a hot bed of terrorism for a long time, probably for the last 20 years. However, there are some in Pakistan, who really care about the well being of Pakistan. These people accept their country's hatred that they have on everyone, and wish they would leave terrorism and hatred. Unfortunately, they are becoming a very small minority. Pakistanis hate US, UK, Israel, India, Australia, France, Japan, and the list goes on. How can people who hate so much live in peace. As Madeline Albright said, they are the migraine of the world. And then, people like Sohail, who build theories like US did 9/11 and Indian Army killed its own people. Stop this, and try to correct yourself.

Pakistan itself has been a victim of terror, that said it is not an excuse for the goverment not to control the so called non-state actors. For long it has been established and confirmed by intelligence agencies all round the world that these "non-state actors" have a lot of support(indirectly) from the state. Why is that in any major terrorist activity involving islamist militants there is always a pakistani involved. From the look of it, the civilian governemnt in Pakistan has no control over the army/militants/ISI. It wont be long before this country becomes a rogue state and a complete nuisance to all its neighbors

Pakistan is the hot bed of Jihadi Terror. Whether it was 9/11, or Nuclear leak to Iran, war in Afghanisatan, it has been aiding and abetting terrorism. The world has been fooled by the double speak of its government and Miltary. ISI is the root of global terrorism. When will the world see the truth and get rid off the root cause of terrorism! These people also killed Daniel Pearl a guy who was also on the trail of terrorists who were plotting 9/11!
