South Korea Loves Hillary Clinton Too
February 20, 2009 1:41 PM
ABC News' Martha Raddatz reports from Seoul, South Korea: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continued her whirlwind tour of Asia with a stop in Seoul, South Korea. And she continued to pour on the charm, too.
A day after appearing on a popular MTV-style show in Jakarta, Indonesia where she wooed the crowd with stories of conversations with President Obama, Clinton spoke to a group of college students at Ewha Womans University in Seoul.
The questions she faced weren't the staid, diplomatic ones she's used to.
Clinton was asked about her thoughts on love.
"Wow, I feel more like an advice columnist than a secretary of state today," Clinton said, drawing laughter from the audience.
What does she think about her daughter Chelsea?
"We could be here for hours!" she replied.

Quite refreshing! These kids are so clever. Why always questions on politics, economy which does not show any sign of changing soon. It was wise to change the subject and go for something different. It also made Sec. Clinton to put on a face of a smile at least for a while!

Young Asian women love HRC. Ok, we got it.

I'm a conservative TEXAN, but have spent a good part of my adult life in Korea.
Ehwa is, I believe, the top women's university in Korea and very competitive to get into. These young ladies are smart. They have already heard and have a good sense about the standard, pat lines of questions and answers that government leaders around the world deal with. They asked the questions pertinent to them. They are curious about a successful and powerful public figure who happens to be a woman. This may seem "simple" to a westerner, but given Korea's history and ability to adapt, it makes sense and isn't simple at all.

Thank you for your genuinely valuable insights, Honus Auretus. I wish all posters would be as civil and helpful as you.

LOL, the pathetic media cracks me up. This woman claims North Korea probably isn't up to anything and you post a story about how she's wooing people all over the world. You can't stop chanting "Yes we can," can you?

I guess the Clinton bashing goes on. From my perspective, after the past eight years of Bush and his cowboy stupidity, the adults have finally shown up, beginning with Hillary. When it comes to comparing Sec'y of states, Hillary sure has Condoleeza Rice beat by about 1000 IQ points.

Detainees being held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan cannot use US courts to challenge their detention, the US says.
The justice department ruled that some 600 so-called enemy combatants at Bagram have no constitutional rights.
Most have been arrested in Afghanistan on suspicion of waging a terrorist war against the US.
The ruling has disappointed human rights lawyers who had hoped the Obama administration would take a different line to that of George W Bush.
Prof Barbara Olshansky, the lead counsel in a legal challenge on behalf of four Bagram detainees, told the BBC the justice department’s decision not to reform the rules was both surprising and “enormously disappointing”.
The exact quote from the Barack Obama-era Department of Justice? “Having considered the matter, the government adheres to its previously articulated position.” The DoJ and the DoD consider Bagram detainees “unlawful combatants” without any rights to access the US court system and with no recourse for release.
Just as it did in the George Bush administration. Remember how the Left considered Bush a war criminal for taking this exact position?

A Pentagon review of conditions in the Guantanamo Bay military prison has concluded that the treatment of detainees meets the requirements of the Geneva Convention but that prisoners in the highest-security camps should be allowed more religious and social interaction with each other, according to a government official who has read the 85-page document.
The report, which was ordered by President Obama, was prepared by Adm. Patrick M. Walsh, the vice chief of naval operations, and has been delivered to the White House. Obama requested the review as part of an executive order on the planned closure of the prison at the Guantanamo Bay U.S. naval base on the southeastern tip of Cuba.
Walsh concluded that … force-feeding, which involves strapping prisoners to feeding chairs and forcing tubes down one nostril and into their stomachs, is in compliance the Geneva Convention’s mandate that the lives of prisoners must be preserved, the government official said.

Amnesty International and a pro-Tibet group voiced shock Friday after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton vowed not to let human rights concerns hinder cooperation with China.
Paying her first visit to Asia as the top US diplomat, Clinton said the United States would continue to press China on long-standing US concerns over human rights such as its rule over Tibet.
“But our pressing on those issues can’t interfere on the global economic crisis, the global climate change crisis and the security crisis,” Clinton told reporters in Seoul just before leaving for Beijing.
T. Kumar of Amnesty International USA said the global rights lobby was “shocked and extremely disappointed” by Clinton’s remarks.
Hillary wanted to stress that human rights are important, but that the Obama administration has its priorities. They appear to be ranked in this order:
Business (trade).
Business (energy policy).
Security (North Korea and Taiwan).
Reminding China not to enslave, beat, and kill people.
The Bush administration put security first, followed by trade and human rights — and got crucified for it by Democrats over the last eight years.

Honus Auretius; I found your post interesting because I agree.

Why, I thought the Demi-Dems said that Hillary or Barrack (as prez or sos) were just going to be SO good as international politicians & diplomats that all our problems would just ‘melt away’ as soon as they were on the scene. President Bush was just such an evil doer that none of his approaches or assessments could possibly be correct……….. -- as ‘Hillary dillary Dock’ talks tough to N. Korea & looks the other way on China’s infractions. --
Why I thought that she was just going to be ‘So Nice’ and Respectful of other nations peoples that everything would just fall into place. You know, Bush was just SO Mean & Hateful and that was why there were Bad People in the world…………..You mean to tell me that some Bad Guys are just So Bad that they will not listen to kind words, Liberalistic Humanitarianism, and behind the scenes Political Niceties…………..
You mean to tell me that these Bad Guy World Leaders just could not feel the ‘Warm Glow’ coming off of Hillary as she approached so that they just gave in with Warm Hugs & Smiles……….Tell me it ain’t so Josephine.
(welcome to the real world libbies)

From the NY Times — With two missile strikes over the past week, the Obama administration has EXPANDED THE COVERT WAR run by the Central Intelligence Agency inside Pakistan, attacking a militant network seeking to topple the Pakistani government.
The missile strikes on training camps run by Baitullah Mehsud represent a BROADENING OF THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN INSIDE PAKISTAN, which has been largely carried out by drone aircraft. Under President Bush, the United States frequently attacked militants from Al Qaeda and the Taliban involved in cross-border attacks into Afghanistan, but had stopped short of raids aimed at Mr. Mehsud and his followers, who have played less of a direct role in attacks on American troops.
The strikes are another sign that President Obama is continuing, and in some cases EXTENDING, BUSH ADMINISTRATION POLICY IN USING AMERICAN SPY AGENCIES AGAINST TERRORISM SUSPECTS in Pakistan, as he had promised to do during his presidential campaign.
