From Restrictions On Iraq Policy To Money For a Dead Congressman's Wife --- This Bill Has It All
March 13, 2007 1:32 PM
The furor, the debate, and nearly all the press coverage has been about iraq. but that huge urgent supplemental unveiled last week by house democratic leaders standing in a small room draped in flags has tons of money to help win the hearts and minds and more importantly votes of wavering members.
the bill is currently 172 PAGES long---just how many members do you think will actually read any of it---and according to CongressDailyAM it is $21.1 BILLION above what the bush administration wanted.
according to reporters christian bourge and peter cohn, the bill contains $60. 4 MILLION for salmon fishermen, $283 MILLION for dairy farmers, $3.7 BILLION to help farmers, ranchers and growers who have suffered through 3 years of bad crops, $400 MILLION to help communities going through economic hard times due to a slumping timber industry, and $74 MILLION TO EXTEND A PEANUT STORAGE PROGRAM. the bill has MONEY for the wife of the late rep. charles norwood and house democrats hoping to jump start their MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE proposal have thrown that into the bill as well.
it's a new congress now run by the democrats. but so far the process is pretty much the same---a MUST PASS BILL LARDED UP WITH EXPENSIVE SPECIAL INTEREST PROJECTS PAID FOR COURTESY OF THE TAXPAYER..
