Will the Massacre Reignite Gun Law Debate?

April 17, 2007 10:12 AM

WILL THE SLAUGHTER OF STUDENTS REIGNITE EFFORTS TO TOUGHEN GUN LAWS?

democrat dianne feinstein thinks it will.  the california senator and author of a 1994 federal assault weapons ban that NO LONGER EXISTS, said on her website, "it is my deep belief that shootings like these are enabled by the unparalleled ease with which people procure weapons in this country.  and I BELIEVE THIS WILL REIGNITE THE DORMANT EFFORT TO PASS COMMON-SENSE GUN REGULATIONS IN THIS NATION."

democrat carolyn mccarthy, called the "GUN LADY" by critics of gun control laws said, "THE UNFORTUNATE SITUATION IN VIRGINIA COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS STOOD UP TO THE GUN LOBBY."

but yesterday those congressional leaders, both from carolyn mccarthy's own party, FAILED TO EVEN MENTION THE WORD "GUN" in their press releases about the murders.

speaker nancy pelosi took to the house floor and called for a moment of silence and talked about "CONTINUED PRAYERS FROM THIS CONGRESS" and harry reid, the democratic leader in the senate had an even briefer statement saying, "IT BREAKS OUR HEARTS AND SHAKES US TO OUR CORES...".

reid went on to say, "WE PRAY THAT AMERICA CAN FIND THE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME OUR GRIEF AND OUTRAGE..." but reid did not pray that america find the strength to do something about guns.

larry pratt, the executive director of GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA isn't afraid to talk about gun laws.  on his website he says "IT IS DANGEROUS TO TELL CITIZENS THAT THEY MAY NOT HAVE GUNS AT SCHOOLS."

meanwhile according to this morning's WASHINGTON POST countries like great britain see the "UNITED STATES AS A NATION OBSESSED WITH GUNS" and their newpapers this morning carry front stories headlined "WHAT PRICE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS" and "EXECUTED AT UNI."

Yes - It will start the debates again on gun laws. The problem is that if all the guns are indeed banned, the illegal guns and importantly the people that are troubled and are pulling the triggers will still kill people. The guns are the tool. What if it were a Chemistry student that created a bomb? A pharmacy student introduces a drug and causes an overdose.

The bottom line is actually pay attention and support your children, before they grow older and act improperly - it stems from the home or lack of prpoer home. Just beacuse a parent provides a house, does not make it a home and importantly a home with values

This shooting incident shows that all the laws and restrictions worked and another school shooting took place.
We don't need more laws and restrictions,we need to allow people to carry guns for their own defense as well as others who choose not to carry.
Cho purchased his guns legally and passed a background check in accordance with state and federal laws.
The guns didn't kill anyone-Cho used the guns to kill.

As for Great Britain, they have passed a national gun ban and crime is higher despite all the cameras that are posted all over the city.
Street crimes are commited in alleys out of sight of the camreas or by more bolder crimminals right in front of the cameras.
If congress bans all guns, they will also have to ban any object that can be used as a weapon-this will include hammers, screwdrivers, tire irons, crowbars, frying pans, all knives (even those used in the home for food preparation and eating).
Lets not forget sticks and stones, axes, cars, trucks, etc.
