SHE CUT THE WORD "DIE" IN HER ABDOMEN

Lisa van Syckel is one angry parent!
On Wednesday she told a house subcommittee, "I would like you to hear how CORPORATE GREED, our woefully inadequate mental health system and OVER-RELIANCE ON PHARMA-PSYCHIATRY, and the LITTLE PINK PILL, PAXIL, have forever altered the life of my most precious gift from God, my daughter Michelle."
In June of 2000 when her daughter was 14 years old she was put on Paxil. "Within a few weeks she began to self-mutilate with knives, razors and broken plastic cd cases. She became verbally abusive, displaying extreme oppositional behavior, along with severe insomnia, diarrhea, chest pains, weak muscles and on a few occasions vomited blood and had rectal bleeding."
In August, 2000 the dosage was increased and during one episode she "INFLICTED OVER TWENTY-THREE WOUNDS and CUT THE WORD "DIE" INTO HER ABDOMEN ... she assaulted her brother ... viciously attacked three police officers and managed to escape from her handcuffs twice ... she EVEN ATTEMPTED TO KICK OUT THE WINDOW OF THE PATROL CAR ... it took FIVE MEN to restrain her when she arrived at the hospital."
She says her daughter NEVER had violent or suicidal behavior prior to taking antidepressants and she blames the FDA for not doing enough to warn doctors, patients and parents of the dangers of certain medications.
Wednesday's hearing also heard from other witnesses including the GAO, who presented their report on drug safety.
