"YOU KNOW WHO DID STAND UP WHEN IT COUNTED?"
May 02, 2007 9:01 AM
The C-Span footage of the YOU TUBE clip of democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., telling a questioner at a fish fry that "we're going to shove it down his throat" is playing everywhere on the morning shows.
Biden is referring to the Iraq supplemental and what he wants to do with it when bush vetoes the bill which he did last night. But Biden VOTED for the war that has gotten us into the mess requiring hundreds of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of supplementals, not to mention the THOUSANDS OF LIVES that have been lost.
MIKE LUPICA has a great column in this morning's NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. He talks about Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., nearly losing her voice the other day on the campaign trail as she called President Bush's remarks on May 1 four years ago on that carrier deck with that huge MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner hanging overhead, "one of the most shameful episodes in american history."
He mentions that democratic presidential hopefuls Clinton, former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and Biden all voted for the Iraq war and have now become experts on Iraq "in what has become the most vocal and most prominent Monday morning quarterbacking in all of American political history."
Then he asks, "you know who did stand up when it counted? SEN. EDWARD KENNEDY. He was already 40 years in the senate and was supposed to be too old and too liberal ... BUT HE STOOD UP AND TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT BUSH'S WAR EVEN WHEN NOBODY WANTED TO LISTEN ... Kennedy was one who wasn't afraid to be called a bad American, or unpatriotic, the way Clinton and Edwards and the rest of them were. HE STOOD UP AGAINST THIS WAR WHEN IT WASN'T POPULAR. THEY ALL STAND UP NOW. THEY'RE ALL BRAVE NOW."
Columnist Mike Lupica hit it right on the head!
