ROCKER TED NUGENT TEACHES JIM ZUMBO ABOUT "BLACK RIFLES"
June 04, 2007 3:23 PM
Remember Jim Zumbo---the outdoors writer and cable show host who went after hunters who used military style assault weapons to kill prairie dogs? Zumbo called the weapons "TERRORIST RIFLES." Stunned, the NRA, hunters, and lovers of the weapons they affectionately call "BLACK RIFLES" immediately launched a vicious attack and Zumbo lost it all.
Remember Ted Nugent, the ancient rocker who in the 60's formed the bands ROYAL HIGH BOYS and LOURDES before hitting it big with the AMBOY DUKES? According to Andrew Park of the NEW YORK TIMES the 59 year old rocker whose web is devoted as much to GUNS as MUSIC called Jim Zumbo a few days later and said "YOU MESSED UP MAN...BIG TIME!"
The NYT article says a week after that call Zumbo flew to the Texas ranch of Nugent to get a gun lesson. "These guns are everywhere...I PERSONALLY DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE TWO OF THEM IN HIS TRUCK" Nugent told reporter Park.
According to the article pictures of American soldiers armed with the "black rifles" in Iraq have helped sales tremendously and rocker Nugent was able to convince Jim Zumbo that "black rifle" users can be his friends. Zumbo was impressed. "Having met the people who shoot these things, they were regular folks; they weren't sinister people who were bent on causing harm, they weren't hostile people...THEY WERE INTERESTED IN GUNS BECAUSE THEY ARE FUN TO SHOOT."
Dennis Hennigan of the BRADY CENTER TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE has a different view. He told the NYT, "IF YOUR MISSION IS TO KILL A LOT PEOPLE VERY QUICKLY, THEY'RE VERY WELL SUITED FOR THAT TASK."
New York Democrat Carolyn McCarthy would like to get a new assault weapons ban through congress. The old one expired.
Jim Zumbo would like to resume his columns and cable show.

"My money's on Zumbo."
This is what passes for argumentation in today's political environment. No reasoning, no supporting evidence, no structured argument.
