$8.8 BILLION A MONTH ON IRAQ ONLY $1 BILLION A YEAR ON KIDS HEALTH

July 16, 2007 8:34 AM

The SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE votes Tuesday on a proposal that would EXPAND SCHIP, the STATE CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM by $35 BILLION OVER 5 YEARS.  The senate bill would pay for the increase by RAISING THE TAX ON CIGARETTES BY 61 CENTS TO $1 A PACK.  The bill is  BIPARTISAN, brokered by committee REPUBLICANS, CHUCK GRASSLEY and ORRIN HATCH.  The TOBACCO TAX is the baby of committee REPUBLICAN GORDON SMITH.

But the President is opposed.  In fact he has threatened a VETO if the bill reaches his desk with that increase in it.  Bush wants a $5 BILLION EXPANSION of SCHIP over 5 YEARS.  According to the WASHINGTON POST the CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE says Bush's increase "IS TOO LITTLE TO KEEP COVERING EVEN JUST THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM NOW."

According to the CONGRESSIONAL RESEARCH SERVICE as of MARCH 14th, the U.S. is spending $8.8 BILLION a MONTH IN IRAQ -- that's a MONTH, and the administration wants to increase spending on kids health by ONLY $1 BILLION a YEAR!

When it comes to Kids haven't we always spent less on them as far as the government is concerned...anything to do with women's programs to help us, programs for kids, to help serve us...I see no different than when I was a kid in the 80's..I saw more given to us in the 60's...wake up, we are spoiled only because our parents try to make up for what we do not get from government in the way of aid for poor kids...we push them back just like vets or anyone else than seems to be to weak in society to defend...the truth is always hard to swallow when you see our government battling forces to spend the dollar for programs that involve humane beings...Apache
