"The Family Disease"
May 14, 2008 7:38 AM
Chuck Jackson knows ALZHEIMER'S all too well. He calls it the "THE FAMILY DISEASE." He was just 13 when he saw his mother slowly destroyed by ALZHEIMER'S. Since that time 17 of his relatives have lost their battle with the disease and now Chuck Jackson has EARLY-ONSET ALZHEIMER'S. So does his older brother and 3 of his cousins. More than 20 years ago, his aunt Esther testified on capitol hill begging for more federal research dollars. Ironically, the man who would later suffer from ALZHEIMER'S himself, PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN, vetoed the bill that would have increased funding. Today, Chuck Jackson, like his aunt before him, will testify on capitol hill and ask for some help---while he can.
