“This Week” is #2 Among Total Viewers

This Week” Closes Total Viewing Gap with “Meet The Press” by 1 Million Total Viewers vs. Last Year and for the 37th Time This Year

 

This Week” Experiences the Most Total Viewer Growth Week to Week

 

According to Nielsen Media Research, ABC News “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” was #2 among total viewers last Sunday, November 15, 2009.  Reporting 2.82 million total viewers, “This Week” narrowed the year-to-year total viewing gap with NBC’s “Meet the Press” for the 37th time this year. Versus the same week last year “This Week” cut into “Meet’s” total viewing lead by 1 million viewers or78% (290,000 in 2009 vs. 1,290,000 in 2008).  Among the key Adults 25-54 demographic, ABC also closed the gap with NBC by 51% (220,000 in 2009 vs. 450,000 in 2008). 

 

Week to week, “This Week” experienced the largest growth among total viewers (+170,000/+6a%) compared to the other Sunday Discussion programs, while also cutting into “Meet’s” total viewing lead by 19% (290,000 on 11/15 vs. 360,000 on 11/8).

“Nightline” is #1 for the Week: Bests “Letterman” and “Tonight Show” Among Total Viewers, A25-54 & A18-49

Nightline” Posts Best Total Viewer and A25-54 Deliveries Since Start of the Season

  

Nightline” Grows +2% Among Total Viewers Year to Year While “Tonight Show” Declines -56%

 

ABC News “Nightline” was #1 among Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers  for the week of November 9, 2009 outperforming NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman,” according to Nielsen Media Research. This is the second week in a row “Nightline” placed first among Total Viewers. It also marks the twenty-first consecutive week “Nightline” beat “The Tonight Show” among Total Viewers. This is the first time “Nightline” has beaten “The Tonight Show” among Total Viewers for twenty-one consecutive weeks since at least the 1991/92 season, which is as far as records date. Additionally, “Nightline” posted its best total viewer and A25-54 deliveries since the first week of the season. “The Tonight” dropped to its lowest total viewer delivery since at least the 91/92 season.

Barbara Walters’ headline-making interview with former Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin continues on “20/20”. “20/20” airs FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“World News with Charles Gibson” Posts Best Total Viewer & Demo Deliveries in More Than 8 Months

ABC Broadcast Grows Week-to-Week in Both Categories, Increasing the Most Among the Competition in Key Adult 25-54 Demo

 

Week-to-Week, ABC Cuts Viewing Gaps with NBC and Extends Demo Advantage Over CBS

 

For the week of November 9th, ABC’s “World News with Charles Gibson” averaged 8.42 million Total Viewers and a 2.0/7 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Growing week-to-week among both Total and key demo viewers, the broadcast posted its largest audience in these categories in more than 8 months (week of 2/23/09).

 

Compared to the prior week, “World News” was up 200,000 among Adults 25-54, increasing the most of any evening newscast. The broadcast also grew 40,000 among Total Viewers, which marks its third straight week of gains.

ABC News “Nightline’s” Weekly Half Hour Digital Program Begins Airing on Ustream on Monday, November 16th

New Initiative Expands “Nightline’s” Popular Digital Presence

 

ABC News “Nightline” is expanding its popular digital presence by broadcasting its half-hour digital program, “NightTline” on Ustream, a live interactive broadcasting platform on the web.  Beginning today, viewers will be able to watch the Twittercast, a half-hour program that airs Mondays at 12:30pm EST at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nightline-twittercast. The “Nightline” Twittercast  is hosted by the program’s anchors and correspondents, providing a forum for viewers to simultaneously discuss and debate the news of the day. “NightTline” already can be viewed on the “Nightline” page at ABCNEWS.com and ABC News Now, the network’s 24-hour digital channel.  

 

“Nightline” is always looking for new venues to engage with our audience,” said James Goldston, “Nightline’s” Executive Producer. “We are excited at the opportunity to collaborate with Ustream.”

A Barbara Walters Exclusive: South Carolina’s First Lady Jenny Sanford

Barbara Walters will interview South Carolina’s First Lady Jenny Sanford in conjunction with her memoir, which will be published in April 2010. Sanford is expected to discuss how she tried to stay true to herself and her family after husband Governor Mark Sanford disappeared and then revealed his extramarital affair with an Argentinean woman, the heartbreak behind the headlines of their marriage breakup, and being a political spouse. A special Barbara Walters hour interview will air on ABC News in April 2010.

 

Mrs. Sanford will also be doing a brief interview with Ms. Walters for “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009,” which is scheduled to air on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 10 pm.

 

Interview excerpts will also air across ABC News’ platforms, including ABC News Radio, ABC News NOW, ABCNEWS.com, and ABC NewsOne.

“This Week” is #2 Among Total Viewers

This Week” Continues to Close Gaps with “Meet The Press” – Week to Week, Year to Year, Season, Quarter and Year to Date

 

According to Nielsen Media Research, ABC News “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” was #2 among total viewers last Sunday, November 8th, tying CBS’ “Face the Nation.”  With 2.65 million total viewers and 850,000 among Adults 25-54, “This Week” narrowed the total viewing gap with “Meet” by 29% (360,000 in 2009 vs. 510,000 in 2008) and the demo gap by 72% (50,000 in 2009 vs. 180,000 in 2008) versus the same week last year.  This marks the 36th time this year, “This Week” has closed the year to year total viewing gap with “Meet.”

First Time Since at Least the 1991/1992 Season “Nightline” Outperforms “Tonight Show” 20 Consecutive Weeks in Total Viewers

 

ABC News “Nightline” was #1 among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers  for the week of November 2, 2009 outperforming NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman,” according to Nielsen Media Research. This marks the twentieth consecutive week “Nightline” beat NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” among Total Viewers. This is the first time “Nightline” beat “The Tonight Show” among Total Viewers for twenty consecutive weeks since at least the 1991/92 season, which is as far as records date.

It was the perfect high school romance that turned into jealousy and rage. Elizabeth Vargas reports on the story of a popular, pretty teenage girl who became the victim of a hideous crime that would shatter her face but not her beauty. “20/20” is there as she tries to rebuild her life and her looks, and comes face-to-face with the young man responsible. "20/20” airs FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
