“THIS WEEK” IS #1 AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS AND ADULTS 25-54
“THIS WEEK” GROWS 27% AMONG A25-54 AND 15% IN TOTAL VIEWERS YEAR TO YEAR
YEAR-TO-DATE, “THIS WEEK” CONTINUES TO CLOSE THE TOTAL VIEWING AND DEMO GAPS WITH “MEET THE PRESS”
On Sunday, July 5, ABC News “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” was the #1 Sunday morning show in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demographic according to Nielsen Media Research. On a holiday weekend and airing directly against the Wimbledon Men’s Finals on NBC for which “Meet the Press” was pre-empted, “This Week” pulled in 2.77 million total viewers, a growth of 15% versus the same week last year. The program’s growth among Adults 25-54 was even larger -- +27% -- versus last year. In comparison, CBS’ “Face the Nation” declined -12% in the demo and -11% in total viewers.
Week to week, “This Week” again experienced the most growth in both total viewers (+18%) and Adults 25-54 (+22%).
Year-to-date, “This Week” is up the most in total viewers vs. the same period last year with an average of 3.02 million total viewers, an increase of 9%. In comparison, “Meet” has declined -13%, and “Face” has increased +6% vs. last year. In addition, “” continues to cut into “Meet the Press’” lead among both total viewers and Adults 25-54. For 2009 so far, “This Week” has closed the total viewing gap with “Meet” by 54% (690,000 in 2009 vs. 1,490,000 in 2008) compared to last year. In Adults 25-54, the gap has been cut by 38% versus the same time period last year (310,000 in 2009 vs. 500,000 in 2008).
Season-to-date, “This Week” continues to dominate the second place position among total viewers and A25-54 and experience the most growth among total viewers compared to the other Sunday shows versus last year. Averaging 3.14 million Total Viewers, the ABC show versus last year is up 15% and +7% in the demo with 1.07 million Adults 25-54.
George Stephanopoulos interviewed Vice President Joe Biden from Iraq last Sunday.
George Stephanopoulos is the anchor of “This Week” and Ian Cameron is the executive producer. The program airs Sundays on the ABC Television Network.
