Hijacked Fuel Tanker Found in D.C.

October 19, 2007 12:41 PM

ABC News' Jack Date and Pierre Thomas Report:  A stolen fuel tanker truck carrying 7100 gallons of diesel fuel has been found intact in southeast Washington, D.C.

D.C. Metro Police are on scene and investigating, and a spokesman for the department confirms that the vehicle was unoccupied and that no arrests have been made.

The truck was taken from the 3100 block of Vera St. in Baltimore around 5:00 a.m. Friday morning.  Baltimore City Police Spokesman Sterling Clifford said the assailant, described as a male wearing a blue jumpsuit, brandished a semi-automatic handgun at the driver.

After the theft, the truck and its tanker trailer, operated by Baltimore Tank Lines, were seen heading towards Interstate 95.  Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are connected by I-95.

Clifford said, "This is being investigated as a robbery, there is no connection to terrorism at this point."  The Joint Terrorism Task Forces from Washington and Baltimore have been assisting local police in the investigation as a precaution.

The Maryland Department of Homeland Security has also been monitoring the situation, and the Baltimore City Police Department has taken the lead on the investigation.

Funny how quickly they are "able" to discount terrorism, yet they want us to live in fear of it. 2 + 2 = 5

Seriously folks, do any of you go back and read your hate filled rants This story is about a stolen gas tanker. No one has posted one thoughtful piece on this topic. Most of you have used this as a forum on hate. You hate Bush, you hate Christians, you hate Cheney, Halliburton, and on and on. Geezer, do you do nothing but fill your day with your hatred? My God folks. Is everyone so full of this poison that they don't make good sense anymore. Are you all really that miserable with your life? Go on, go back and read your stuff. It is simply pathetic.

Jake T: Congress DID approve martial law. The GOP Congress did so before the 2006 elections, and the "new" law took effect on October 15 of this year. And while the original statute requires the President to report to Congress when he invokes martial law, and to report again every 14 days thereafter while martial law remains in effect, George Bush's "signing statement" asserts that he has no responsibility to do anything of the sort. The military started a martial law "exercise" the very same day the law took effect, and given Bush and Cheney's extreme disrespect of Checks and Balances, we may actually be under martial law at this very moment and simply not yet know it.

What’s really funny is how mush oil has gone up since they have been in office..
And what’s really really funny is, no one seems to been able to put the tow together..
And what really funny is most of you think the guy that took the tanker is the thief..

Wake up, this government is the nothing short of gangsters themselves..and have been for a long time..go back and watch your tv you idiots!

To the violent idiots advocating crime because they think gas prices are too high:

Maybe you could discontinue your internet access and stop wasting your time posting blegs for violence and pleas for the government to rob people to support your internet habit and you'd have more money to buy gas. Either that or you could take responsibility for yourself by getting off your arse and working a little harder for some more money.

Just a thought.

Funny, you NON LIBERAL free thought guys seem to have the same agenda as the LIBERALS so really what makes you any different. Never met subscribers of an ideology so ashamed of their own beliefs to even admit it!!!

You turn a story about fuel theft into an attack on religion.

Well i will give you this, religion is your enemy. Its hard to make people answer to your absolute wisdom when they answer to a higher power isnt it.

"Well... Under Bush's new law, if there is an act of terrorism, he can declare martial law & stay in power as long as he see's fit. So... From King George to King George in 231 years."

??? What freakin' law are YOU dreaming of? Get that dope pipe out of your mouth and come back to reality!

Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution states, and has always stated: "The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." Haveas Corpus = 'LAW'

The president may declare martial law, but congress must approve it or the declaration means nothing. Only Lincoln (1863) declared it, and the Union members of congress agreed with him. But the Supreme Court found their declaration 'unconstitutional' because "the courts were still open" for business. Martial rule can never exist where the courts are open, and in the proper and unobstructed exercise of their jurisdiction, even during disaster, war or civil war.

The only people trying to remove your freedom right now are radical Islamic fundamentalists who want universal Sharia law under a global Caliphate -- no elected president, elected congress and no appeal through our democratic courts.

High prices do not justify theft. "Thou shalt not steal" was not a suggestion, people.

"If the government would help the general public by forcing lower gas prices"
What about the price of beer. they say its goin up too.......could the guvment force'em to sell it cheaper? And Ohhhh yeah what bout my daggum check?

For the US it's ALL about OIL, folks. Contrary to PC opinion the world is running out of it and the US is importing half or more of what it needs.
Earlier this year the percentage of the population working on the farm dropped below 1 percent for the first time in history.
Add to that the fact that farming is merely a way of using land to convert oil into food and you have the whole picture.
Without an adequate supply of oil this country, or any other 1st world country, is less than a month away from starvation. 3rd world countries are already starving.
But, this stolen diesel oil is worth $25,000 max. The tanker and tractor are each worth two to three times that, or more. If this wasn't about stealing the tanker and tractor then its about making bombs.

I don't blame anyone for stealing gas right not. The prices for gas are killing people. If the government would help the general public by forcing lower gas prices these types of "crimes" would not happen. I think the people who stole the truck should be given a medal rather than jail time.

Maybe this will be a wake-up call to those who can really make a difference. Gas and other prices keep going up, but salaries aren't. The government and employers should be doing more to take the undue strain off people.

I blame Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh

Posted by: Suzie | Oct 19, 2007 2:08:27 PM

Yes it's true we non conservatives are generally self righteous people who think we know it all. we tell the next man to think for himself and then call him a right wing christian freak nazi conservative loon when his opinions differ from our own. despite this fact that we non cons have an answer for everything, I still do not know who stole the fuel truck ? but i do know that this Democrat would rather live next door to 1000 alleged christian right wing freaks, rather than 1 single obvious athiest left wing piece of trailer trash posing as an American citizen.

Now give em back their fuel truck geezer.

from WGMD: Delmarva's Local News Source: "a black man in a blue jumpsuit confronted him with a semi-automatic handgun and forced him out."
Now why couldnt ABC be as clear with thier description of the perp?

In the past tankers have disappeared from that area, other areas also? I would not so easily dismeiss it.
If a building can be "PULLED" while all look on, surely a little Peterbilt can be accepted for future use? With its tracking turned off or yanked off and discarded!

No one has blamed Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh yet.

Fuel thefts will soon be common place. I'd even consider putting a padlock on my bulk fuel tanks if I lived East of Devils Tower or West of Yellowstone. Say... wasn't oil around $24 a barrel when we attacked Iraq?

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the unoccupied truck was found in Washington, DC.

Posted by: Mar | Oct 19, 2007 1:55:54 PM

"The silver-colored trailer has Maine license plates, tag number 1268185

Both have the company name Baltimore Tank Lines printed on the side."

Which side of the license plates? Wow, what good writers.

JLM, actually this comment is not off the mark and is quite rational.

"Christian right wing freaks need to go jump off a cliff"

Bush and the Christian-Zionist lobby are outspoken in their belief that these are the end times and that Israel must be defended at all costs including starting WWIII.

The last time I checked, BUSH was technically supposed to represent the interests of America, not Israel or rapture bunnies, so impatient to get to heaven, they're willing to destroy the world to do it. These person are truly the biggest danger to America.
