ABC News' Lisa Stark Reports: United Airlines is offering cheap tickets - by accident - until later this evening.
On Thursday, the carrier said it mistakenly removed its fuel surcharges from all domestic tickets, and the airline can't correct its error until later tonight. The mistake will result in $130 savings on a roundtrip ticket.
It was a clerical error that removed fuel charge from all domestic fares. United was preparing for a June 1 regulation that will require the airline to issue any child traveling on someone's lap with a ticket, even though the ticket won't cost anything.
United said someone was testing the ticket for infants to ensure they wouldn't face a fuel surcharge and that's when they accidentally took that fuel surcharge off all domestic tickets.
FareCompare.com, a Web site that monitors ticket prices, first reported the error.
United says the error will be resolved at 8 p.m. EST.

kids have to travel and it is expensive for families. If you want to live in a world without kids that is your business, but please avoid people.

The stupid airlines should be forced to simply list the price of the ticket including any charges to avoid misleading passengers. Serves United right to get hosed on this.

Maybe some one is retiring? Oops...

When will the airlines get smart and charge for lap children? As seats got smaller on planes, having a child on someone's lap went from being an minor annoyance to a major space and comfort issue. It's bad enough that we have to deal with excessive crying, but the seat kicking and squirming is amplified when the child is on a lap and not in an approved seat. This is especially problematic on a full flight when there is no extra space for these kids to go.

DAMN!
Now I have to figure out a way to "accidentally" lower my airfare to undercut the competition too! ARG!
Amtrak doesn't have to deal with this stress!!! ARG!

No wonder I don't have a pension after 25 yrs. Look who is running the company.

This must have been a clever marketing ploy to ensure United has a piece of the pie! Error, I don't think so. They would not try something like this on a live server, but a dummy one before it went live.
