U.S. Objects to 'Urgently Needed' in Climate Statement

May 21, 2007 3:36 PM

Ap_earth_070521_main Jeremy Lovell of Reuters reports that in the usual, ugly jockeying for position that happens before the Group of Eight meeting of world leaders, the U.S. has suggested striking two paragraphs from an early draft of a statement calling for talks on a new global climate treaty.

Quoting Lovell's piece:

"According to the draft, the United States supports the deletion of the following paragraphs: 'We firmly agree that
resolute and concerted international action is urgently needed in order to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and sustain our common basis of living.'
"'To this end we will, in the face of the U.N. Climate Change Conference at the end of this year, send a clear message on the further development of the international regime to combat climate change.'"

These kinds of stories leak out before every major meeting; the subject at hand is what will replace the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, which expires in 2012.  You'll recall that Kyoto was a non-starter for the U.S.; the Clinton Administration, saying Congress would never approve, never sent it to the Hill for a vote.

And Al Gore chose today to talk about Iraq?

One thing that can defeat Global Warming and all the other problums that cause drastic tempereature changes in our weather is figure out some way to create a electro-magnetic layer above a given area like a cloud that aides the magnetic field in its polarity and fights to stablize and aid the distruction of all Vertical moving solids or magnetic signals.

As usual, Congress fiddles while the world burns. Reality seems to be in critically short supply in Washington, D.C.

Could it be that Global Warming is simply in another cycle as it has been for the last 100 years?

I wholeheartedly agree with Andy: the current administration in Washington believes that by deleting two paragraphs the facts will change and climate change won't happen. Maybe there's something in the Washington D.C. water...!

And again...the 'marionette' goverments with the big business string masters trying to get the interest's way! Tis is rediculous. We all want the world to be a better place...yet the government doesn't listen to the people.
'Jobs will be lost!' Well.....open up your eyes...China, India, Mexico are taking all the jobs because the gov't allowed all the jobs to go!
Now big bisiness (auto companies and oil companies) are whinning about losing a little of their glutton profits to save the world for EVERYONE!
Is global warming a reality?....lets just say I would like to try to make the world a better place then gamble if global warming is or isn't real!
This makes me embarrassed to be an American.

I agree with Chuck and Andy.

Above all, I agree with Ned. What was Gore thinking? Was he afraid to roar with outrage? Is he seriously considering a presidential run and trying to avoid looking like a one-trick pony?

Harley Simmons: Eureka! Why didn't we think of that before? Sounds like a snap to implement! ;-)

Vidyardhi Nanduri: Where did you say you were from? Is it somewhere close by, like a moon of Saturn planet? Are there many of you out there working on our problem? Will anyone else come to teach us the specifics of how to save Earth planet? In any case, Greetings! ;-)
