Rosie Plots Return to TV With the 'Nanny'

February 27, 2008 4:49 PM

Ap_odonnell_drescher_080227_mn ABC News' Sheila Marikar Reports: What do you get when you pair one of daytime TV's loudest personalities with her prime time counterpart?

A splitting headache? An urge to hurl your TV out the window?

No. According to Rosie O'Donnell and Fran Drescher, you get family-friendly comedy.

The former "View" moderator is plotting her return to the small screen -- she wants to create a sitcom about three best friends that would co-star Fran Drescher, the nasal New Yawk-accented star of "The Nanny."

“Now, Fran and I have a new sitcom, but we can’t talk about it, right?” O’Donnell says in a video posted on her blog, rosie.com, Feb. 22.

Drescher chimes in, “We’re going to do a new, fun, happy, family comedy."

The project is in its early stages. A spokeswoman for O'Donnell told the Los Angeles Times that it's "way too premature" to discuss.

O'Donnell has mostly stayed away from the spotlight since abruptly leaving "The View" in May 2007 after a heated political debate argument with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Last fall, she released her second memoir, "Celebrity Detox," and had preliminary talks with MSNBC about hosting a talk show.

Drescher's stints on TV have been few and far between since "The Nanny" went off air in 1999. In 2005, she returned to the small screen with the sitcom "Living with Fran," but the show was canceled after two seasons.

O'Donnell? Family friendly?

If they invite Margaret Cho to be the third friend, I would watch the show. If they are sincere about being family-friendly, they will make sure the cast has some color. IMHO.

I am such a fan of these two women. I look forward to the new show. I will certainly be WATCHING....

Please Fran don't sully your image with Rosie.

Wow it's annoying to listen to either one talk. I couldn't imagine putting them together for one show. At least Fran does it on purpose. I didn't realize Fran's career had gotten so bad she had to join up with Rosie. Good luck Fran.

No one told them yet: the "family comedy" is dead.

Why or How could anyone be a fan of O'Donnell? She is crude, coarse and essentially, untalented. As some one so accurately asked.."Please Fran, don't sully your image". Though I'm not a fan of Fran, I certainly have nothing but best wishes for her success, in whatever she decides to do but teaming up with O'Donnell could be career suicide.
The number of people who find her (O'Donnell) abusive and frankly, repulsive is large. Think about it Frannie.

Remember when the Nanny was on, there was one episode where Rosie played a relative of Fran. It was the worst episode...Rosie is annoying.

I never really saw the attraction to O'Donnell but after having the bad luck to view some of her "Stand Up" comedy (and I use the word comedy with tongue in cheek) it dawned on me that she is just crude. She's intelligent, no doubt about that but her in your face demeanor gets old real fast. At least it did with me.

just when I thought we could go back into the water.....

I always thought Fran D. was a pretty smart lady....what is she thinking?

Posted by: Sparky | Feb 27, 2008 5:50:44 PM

Fran must have a death wish, poor lady. Who, in their right mind, would want to be seen on the same block as FatGob O'Donnell, let alone in the same show?

It's amazing how so many people can get so upset at a opinionated woman. That's what she is people. There are soooo many more crude male comedians out there and most of you think they are "like totally cool." If a man acted the same way Rosie does, most of you would think he was pretty damn great. And, by the way, I do like Fran too!

What's amazing is that the networks seem to line up to offer her (O'Donnell) work. For the record, she was voted the most annoying celebrity of 2007 by Parade magazine. She got 50% plus of the votes.
Paris Hilton only received 24% and that speaks volumes as to the irritation factor. MSNBC is thinking of working with her on a talk show? Just what the cable network who is struggling to get out of the cellar as far as ratings goes, needs huh?

*screams in horror* It's the final sign of the Apocalypse! Everyone FLEE!

Rosie is sure one big piece of s***!

Posted by: Mike | Feb 27, 2008 6:11:05 PM

I don't feel threatened by an opinionated woman. I am one. It's not her opinions that are so nauseating it's her general attitude of unjustifiable arrogance that grates at me.

Posted by: Sparky | Feb 27, 2008 6:13:19 PM

Please Rosie just go away, take crazy Brittney with you, thanks.

It's called "let's get all the most annoying women together in one place" and see if the idiots in TV land will watch!

Posted by: dgfiit | Feb 27, 2008 6:34:54 PM

Just add three more banshees and you'll have a real rival for the level of annoyance generated by "The View."
