'Gossip' Guy Plagued by Gay Rumors

March 27, 2008 3:26 PM

Nm_chace_crawford_080327_mn So what if he regularly hangs out with an ex-boy band-er? And he shares an apartment with a male castmate when he could easily afford a bachelor pad of his own? And he reportedly just split with his country music goddess girlfriend? And his feathery blonde locks hang a little too perfectly over his cornflower blue eyes?

Can't a guy do all that without people asking if he's gay?

It's the question that keeps coming up about Chace Crawford, star of the CW's ultra-popular show "Gossip Girl" and Hollywood's latest It Guy. Crawford, 22, isn't denying -- or confirming -- anything. While blogs post photos of him and former-NSYNC singer Chasez hanging poolside in L.A. and speculate about whether he and fellow "Gossip Girl" actor Ed Westwick have pillowfights in their downtown NYC apartment, Crawford has stayed silent. Chasez addressed the rumors of their more-than-platonic relationship Wednesday on Arizona radio station Kiss-FM.

“For the record, we’re both straight,” Chasez declared. "We're not dating."

He's young, he's newly single, he's good-looking -- it seems natural that Crawford would want to go out on the town and chill with his boys. But weathering gay rumors is a rite of passage for any young male star who wears designer jeans and hair product. Zac Efron, Justin Timberlake -- they've been linked to liking dudes even while dating some of the hottest women in Hollywood.

It hasn't helped that one of "Gossip Girl's" guys -- Crawford's character Nate Archibald, perhaps -- will reportedly reveal he's gay in an upcoming episode. The blog Defamer called the news, which came the same day they posted a photo of Crawford and Chasez at L.A.'s Roosevelt pool, "the most ambitious viral marketing campaign in network history."

But really, the answer to the "is he gay?" question doesn't matter. By batting his pretty eyelashes and keeping his mouth (also quite attractive) shut, Crawford's getting press for himself and his show, and for an up-and-coming actor, that can only be good.

Am I missing something -- why the word "plague"? Clearly homophobia. So what is he likes to diddle with a boy bander? I mean, be real, how many guy sin boy bands are gay? Ridiculous!

Christ - here we go again! So he might be gay... anyone with a bit of decently about them won't give a rats backside if he is or not, or even want to know anyway.

Only the low "get a life" morans will start gossiping about the subject here and other places

Move on gossipers and grow up. ABC cop yourselves on and try more professional journalism once in a while!

What the heck is with this stupid country/ Who cares if someone is gay? I am more concerned about the character of the person, not his sexuality, the color of his skin, gender any more than I care about his height or her hair color. And by the way, George Bush is straight and killed more than 4,000 Americans!

Why don't you do more research before publishing this bullshit? JC was never pictured at the Roosevelt hotel! JC and Chace share a manager, Eric Podwall. Why not put that in your article? Also, why not follow the arc of the moronic internet bloggers to see how the mis-quote one another? Yes, the PR is good for Chace but the internet rumours are just that--complete bullshit. and you've just added to that.

It's sad what America has come to. How can we gloat about being the best nation in the world when our country has so much prejudice and bad thinking about if someone is straight or not? Who really cares if someone is gay? OMG, that guy likes a guy *giggles* Really, that's how everyone acts. It's pathetic! Besides, a lot of people may "look" gay, and not be gay. How can you know by how someone acts or dresses if they're straight or not?

The use of the word "plaqued" with this article is completely unacceptable. There is nothing wrong with being gay, just as there is nothing wrong with being African American or Latino or having blond hair etc etc.

ABC, why do you employ bigots like Sheila Marikar? There should be no place for bigotry on a major news origination's website.
