Jamie Lynn: Mom -- and Wife -- to Be?
March 26, 2008 11:26 AM
She's not a girl, not yet a woman, but if she's going to raise a baby, this southern gal isn't going to do it in sin.
Jamie Lynn Spears is sporting an engagement ring from fiance Casey Aldridge, according to People magazine. Spears, 16, is expecting her first child with Aldridge, 18, this summer. There's no word yet on a wedding date, or whether the affair will be a down-home Louisana shindig or a star-studded Hollywood bash.
Having watched big sister Britney marry Kevin Federline and divorce him two years later, setting off a bitter custody battle over their two sons, the younger Spears should know exactly what not to do in marriage. Prior to getting pregnant, Spears was the star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101." In October 2007, three months before she announced her pregnancy, she told Newsweek magazine "I just want to have a successful career … Not a crazy one."

Isn't this statutory rape?
Posted by: arthur | Mar 26, 2008 11:45:25 AM
Arthur...not if your wealthy. If they were poor folk then sure enough that 18 yo boy would be under the prison.
Posted by: Ted | Mar 26, 2008 11:47:34 AM
It some states it is. But not in Louisana.
Posted by: Mike | Mar 26, 2008 11:59:57 AM
Well hell, if a shotgun weddin wud good enough fer her dad-burnt mom, what's the ruckus? Ain't nowhar says a sixteen year old cain't be a gud mother.

Louisiana: Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile is sexual intercourse with consent between (1) someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17 or (2) someone age 17 or older and someone between age 12 and 15. Up to 10 years in prison (with or without hard labor). Most states do not refer specifically to statutory rape; instead they use designations such as sexual assault and sexual abuse to identify prohibited activity. Sounds like it to me.
Posted by: OpusRooster | Mar 26, 2008 12:00:27 PM
@Opus: By your own given definition, he is in a "green zone" on the issue. He was 18 (under the age neccessary for conviction according to definition # 1) and she was 16 (above the age required for conviction under definition # 2).
I love how you define what it (statutory rape) and this incident (the pregnancy) does not fit that definition, YET you still say "sounds like it to me". Hello? Pilot to Co-pilot switch brain on! LOL !

Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has been a member for two decades, slurred Italians in a piece published in the most recent issue of Trumpet Newsmagazine.

what the heck - SATAN does this have to do with a knocked up 16 year ld?
Posted by: Traci | Mar 26, 2008 12:43:30 PM
Any normal person would have been charged with Child Rape...look at that poor black kid that spent time in prison for having oral sex with someone slightly younger with consent! This world is just plain crazy!!!

She seems more responsible than her sister. I'm glad she's getting married, but I still think she did the wrong thing by getting pregnant at such a young age. Her show Zoey 101 are for preteens and young teens, not a very good role model here. My daughter is 13 and last week we noticed Jamie Lynn's tummy getting bigger and on her show no less. I pray the young teens that idolize Jamie Lynn won't make the same mistake she did. And I pray they don't think it's "ok and cool" because she got pregnant so young. Not a good thing to advertise on her show. But I do wish her lots of luck.

I agree with you Alicia. Unfortunately the law and media praises Jamie Lynn because she's an actress. She and family has money, who knows, someone could've been bought off the judge or something to leave her boyfriend alone.

Hi,
First of all I want to say that in most states Sexually consent is 16. Also, if he is now 18, he was probably 17 when he got a 15 year old pregnant, also legal. "Sin" was the premarital sex which is done and over with, not the delivery or raising of the child. The worst thing that these young kids can do is get married and ruin both their lives and the life of their child with her growing up in a disfunctional marriage.

WHY IS THIS NEWS. WHAT'S UP ABC... Why do we have to hear about not only Britney, but her pregnant sister. What is this?
Posted by: Deborah Driver | Mar 26, 2008 1:05:19 PM
Wonder how long it took him to pay off the ring layaway at the Wal-mart???? Probably longer than the marriage will last.
Posted by: Terri | Mar 26, 2008 1:24:42 PM
Young girls are ruining the future. Why can they just NOT HAVE SEX?
Is it that hard? Just because you have mother nature telling you its natural because your young fertile bodies are made for it you shouldnt do it.
Posted by: melinda | Mar 26, 2008 1:34:32 PM
I can not possibly believe that a mother would allow her 16 year old to get married let alone have a child at that age. This should answer everyones questions about Brittany....when it comes to these 2 girls the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree". Just because you can make a baby doesn't qualify you to be a responsible parent.....

diagonalley111..."She seems more responsible than her sister". The girl is 16 years old. STAY OFF THE CRACK PIPE...DUMBASS!!!

way to go casey! marry a spears, stay with her for about a year, then bail and get millions. smart!! i would do the same thing. if this girl is dumb enough to marry this moron at 16, she deserves to raise her kid alone and poor while he becomes the next paris hilton on her dollar. think, think, think, think...

One mistake after another...
Posted by: Holly | Mar 27, 2008 9:54:51 AM
How many young hollywood stars have had abortions that we don't know about. She chose to keep the baby knowing what would happen to her in the media. I think that is a mature decision. I'm by no means endorsing teen pregnancies, but I'm glad that she has chosen to face up to the consequences!
Posted by: jo | Mar 31, 2008 12:32:29 AM
ITS NOT STATURY RAPE WHERE I LIVE YOU HAVE TO BE DATING THE PERSON BEFORE YOU TURN 18 OR IF YOUR 18 YOU CAN HAVE SEX WITH SOMEONE TWO YEARS YOUNGER THEN YOU, THEY TEACH US THESE IN HIGH SCHOOL SO TEENAGERS DONT GET IN TROUBLE WITH A PARENT WHO WANTS TO BUT IN.

Brittany's life is and has been a slow moving train wreck for quite some time.
Didn't little Jamie NOTICE???
I guess she's just tired of living in her big sisters shadow.
Why else would she allow this to happen?
Puleeze, give me a break from whacked out hollywood chicks.

also, this is not what some people think is "news."
do your homework, it's called yellow journalism, sensationalism or basically anything that will get you to read it, which you did. i don't read it or write it, i just (on occassion) check out what our intelligent bush voting americans are bitching about.

I agree with normal female. Too many kids think it's "cute" or "fun" to raise a child. Baby's only stay baby's for a little while. What happens when they're no longer cute? Raising a child is tough under the best of circumstances. It is not a game and children can not be thrown away when they're not "fun" anymore.
Posted by: SpedTeacher | Apr 5, 2008 11:48:17 PM
Spedteacher: you say that children can not be thrown away yet so many of our children today are doing just that. Babies are found in dumpsters, in containers in the lakes, in the closets, etc. And still some just give them over to the grandparents or great-grandparents. Instead of teaching kids in school what age they can have sex they should be teaching them the consequences of having sex. The truth of the matter is we should be teaching
God's word at home and being the person God would have us to be instead of being part of the world. Only thru God will our children learn what is right

I think that people should wait until marriage to have sex because its alotbetterfor you.And also being patient is worth the wait and find out who that special somone is. so never have sex unless you get married first its worth the wait.

And also that jamie could have waited until her and casey were married and had an actual life together. And i think that god has plans for everyone if they are patient and have faith in themselves to so please wait until marriagealways.

I don't care about whether she was raped or not. Where the hell are her parents. They have let 2 daughters down as parents and should be ashamed of themselves. Mom doesn't seem to be around and Dad comes into the picture after the fact. Get with it and stop thinking of yourselves and start caring for your daughters. No wonder people think about certain people being back woods people.

The media makes it okay to have babies out of wedlock at young ages, didn't you know that? They praise young celebrities who get pregnant at 16-17 years old and then the bubble-gum brained girls who idolize them think its okay if they do it too. There is actually a rule at my cousins school that prevents teenage mothers from getting medical attention if they go into labor on the school campus--they actually wait until the baby is born and then call CPS. Shame on you, Jamie Lynn, for encouraging teenage pregnancies, where a situation like this can happen. Thank god for celebrities like Miley Cyrus. At least SHE has a brain...or at least a father who makes sure she doesn't get into trouble.

I forgot to add that in todays teenage world they are being taught about sex. Also, has anyone heard of CONDOMS. There is also the birth control pill for girls which I think most girls know about and/or are taking. There was no pill back in my day which kept us on a pretty straight line. This child will regret having done this in the days to come but only if her parents let her suffer the problems she will have like raising this child on her own like most of the other girls that end up in her situation. Another form of birth control is holding an asprin between your knees and it really works. Best of luck and wishes to all the girls that don't have thousands of dollars from their older sister.

I am happy for Jamie Lynn that she is engaged and planning to get married. I think that sets an example for a lotof other young girls. Hopefully, this marriage will lat, and they will be very happy and have moe children as the years go by. Anyone can make a mistake--so back OFF, PPL--she's just a kid and she got pregnant. she isn't the first, and she won't be the last! Also, they r registered at WalMart and Baby-r-us-I think it is called. I already have her a gift, and i wish them both the best life has to offer. Good luck and God Bless, Jamie Lynn!
