Dina Lohan, Mother of the Year?
May 06, 2008 11:30 AM
So what if she raised a girl who racked up two DUI arrests and three rehab stints before her 22nd birthday? Dina Lohan's still a "Top Mom."
The Mingling Moms Organization, a charity based in the Lohans' native Long Island, N.Y., will honor the woman who bore and bred Lindsay as a "Top Mom" tonight along with fellow celebrity moms Rae Stern (Howard Stern), Betty Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld) and Shelley Stevens Herschlag (Natalie Portman).
According to Mingling Moms president Erica Logiudice, Dina and the rest of the honorees are being recognized for their "behind-the-scenes" contributions to their children's "tremendous careers."
While some might wonder why the mother of one of Hollywood's most notorious starlets is deserving of a parenting award, Logiudice defended Mingling Moms' decision.
"It's not all Dina's fault. It's not always the mom's fault when the child goes awry," Logiudice told ABCNEWS.com, pointing out that Dina was busy with a bitter divorce while her daughter was running her Mercedes Benz into trees and maybe snorting cocaine. "She's been with Lindsay through her ups and downs. She is a mom, she raised a major celebrity out of Long Island, and we're proud."
Dina, 45, plans to attend a dinner tonight to accept her award, but Lindsay, 21, won't be by her side. She's busy shooting a guest spot on an upcoming episode of "Ugly Betty" … and presumably, trying to make her mom and the rest of Long Island proud.

Deviancy is defined downward. Let's see, if she got parent of the year, then I should be cannonized a saint.

I can't believe this!!! What about the moms who are doing so much more for their kids than putting them in rehab and partying with them?? BEFORE LINDSEY WAS 21 she was seen with her mom at hot clubs drinking etc. Don't but her mom with people like Mrs. Seinfeld and Natalie portman's mom...they deserve so much more than that.

You have got to be kidding. Stop writing a book and pay attention to you family problems. This award is not for her.

Sponging Mom, maybe.

Ah, the new low standard to shoot for in parenting. It's endemic in today's society, though, this penchant for rewarding mediocrity. You see it on meaningless 'feel good' bumper stickers all the time ("My child is still breathing well at OurLocalGradeschool"). But then, this award appears to be for celebrity parents only. Given the kinds of things celebrities are doing these days, I suppose Lohan's antics are mild in comparison. I don't know why these people are role models, though. They've done little to deserve it.

She can be joined on stage by Britney Spears mother as well.
That would double the farcical non-funny muppets on the stage!

Well aren't we just so ashamed that she would be given a mother of the year award? Well you all might be but as for myself if Iwas her mother I would be a proud parent yes Lindsey has done some wrong but ask yourself can you honestly say yours wouldn't. I can! And if these people giving this award want her to have it so be it. Really it's none of your buisness! Look at yourself before you judge another person is all I have to say about that, thanks for reading this!

An award for raising a delinquent? Where were her parenting skills when she was getting into bars when she was underage. Nasty divorce or not, she still should have been paying attention to her children. She was more concerned with the money she would make in the divorce than in her kids!

What do expect it's a mothering award from Long Island - home of Amy Fisher and Joey Battafuco. This organization is probably sponsored by rehab facilities on Long Island. Without inompetent mothers like those in this group, how would they make money?!

If pimping out your daughters and living off their income makes you mother of the year... then yeah, I guess she's earned it. Now she's almost done pimping Lindsay, she's already got johns lined up for the smaller Lindsay too. Oh, and we musn't forget her "How To" book. I'll spit on anyone I see buying that trash.

It's for certain. The United States has gone to hell.

What joy!! For her to be Mother of the YEAR!! Well, we have Lynn Spears writing a book on Parenting. However her ex has to step in to be his daughters custodian. The Mothers should be nominated for MOST USELESS MOTHERS OF THE YEAR. This is a SAD downward Spiral. Now she's pimping out her younger daughter on a Reality TV show. Sad very SAD

It's for certain....this world has gone to hell in a handbag! This woman mother of the year????? HA!!! Mine as well give it to an animal that eats their young! I don't see where these people get their nominations from.....this is stupid. Oh I can see where Lindsey gets her skeletal like figure from!

Who are the numbskulls that come up with this absurdity? Mother of the Year? You have GOT to be kidding. They sure do set their standards amazingly low.
