Pet Store to Paris: No Puppies for You

June 18, 2008 9:49 AM

Ap_paris_hilton_080617_mn Someone had to stop Paris Hilton. Who knew it would be a pet store?

The heiress with the mostess walked into The Puppy Store on Los Angeles' Melrose Ave. last weekend in search of a dog she could drag to a photo shoot, according to The New York Post. Hilton fell for a Yorkie but an employee rejected her bid, saying it was clearly "an impulse buy." Her screams of "I love my puppies! I want my baby!" fell on deaf ears -- Paris stormed out of the store empty-handed.

The Puppy Store declined ABCNEWS.com's requests for comment. But People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals couldn't be happier.

"Paris and her ilk need to understand these are animals -- not accessories. PETA applauds The Puppy Store for doing a responsible thing and turning Paris Hilton away," PETA said in a statement to ABCNEWS.com. "It's no secret that her impetuous 'pet' purchases and apparent lack of caretaking skills have been a serious concern of PETA's for a long time -- she has changed dogs as often as she changes hairstyles. Dogs are a lifelong commitment, and require proper care, love and attention to flourish."

Indeed, Hilton can't toss aside a pet as she does last season's purse, but that hasn't stopped her from amassing a menagerie of animals large enough to fill an ark. In February, the heiress revealed on "The Ellen DeGeneres" show, "I have 17 dogs -- lots. They all sleep in my bed -- well, not all of them, but I let some of them."

Why does she have more puppies than a small pound? "They keep having babies," she told DeGeneres, "and I feel bad about giving them away."

But apparently, she doesn't feel bad about adding another pooch to the pile.

Let her come out of her "rich world" for about a month and spend that month in the hood of SE D.C. see how she does digg?

I applaud the store for what they did as well.
But to help themselves and at the same time help Paris, why don't they rent the dog for the day, and then use her pictures etc... as advertisement for others to purchase a puppy?
That way Paris does not keep the puppy to add to the collection and the store gets some advertisement/awareness out there?
Could be a win win situation.

Why doesn't Paris sell the puppies and dogs that she doesn't have time to care for and give the money to a charitable organization?

I knew it was too good to be true -- Hilton is back in the negative news. Feel sorry for the puppies -- they really deserve a good home - not living with the trash.

Why doesn't she just eat the dogs?

Why doesn't the SPCA raid Hilton's house on the basis that she "hoards" dogs, and does not spay or neuter them? While the pet store did the right thing in refusing Hilton a dog, The Puppy Store should be closed down anyway for selling dogs from puppy mills. They're just as guilty of perpetuating this disgraceful exploitation and abuse of animals. This idiot women are disgusting.

From oil prices to credit markets, this story about Paris buying a puppy is the kind of news the MSM delivers to the public. AND bloggers take it seriously. This is why I think the country is in trouble.

She's just a spoiled rich bit.. with no class, trailer trash on an unlimited budget

THIS IS NOT NEWS!!!! Who cares about Paris Hilton?! Her 15 minutes were up a long time ago.

Paris Hilton...what a POS!!

Hey AZ - maybe not but you still took the time to read and post about it ; )

If Paris loves animals so much why doesn't she save some from certain death at the shelters rather than buying them? But I still say refuse her. She thinks these animals are toys. God forbid she has children!

Okay. I agree that she should have the puppies spay or neutered and proly has to have a permit or something for having all of thoes dogs in her home - if it is true. AND - CHER message to you, enough of the trailer trash comments. nice sterotyping!

Cher - I have to agree with Shannon, Paris isn't trailer trash, she's just trash with an unlimited budget. To compare her in any way with humans in general is insulting to the human race. What a waste of space, her parents must be as worthless as she is. No wonder granddad pretty much disinherited the family. I feel sorry for the man that his name is being dragged through the gutter.

You know what, I'm tired of wasting my time on garbage like this. I don't know what possesses me to even read about these "things". I think I'll quit paying attention to any of these trolls (wait, trolls have more class than that thing) that pass for celebrities and just pay attention to the actors that really have talent and show class. Like Johnny Depp, Liam Neeson and Cate Blanchet. So nice not to hear about them in trouble.

Poor woman, this Hilton whoever. She has so much time on her hands. Why doesn't she work at a dog pound and clean up poop all day!

Posted by: Miek Thompson | Jun 18, 2008 11:47:18 AM

Why doesn't she just buy that pet store?

Posted by: XxHaimBondxX | Jun 18, 2008 11:56:58 AM

I hope that when she started screaming and crying they just told her to shut up and leave.

Her 14 dogs may well have a better quality of life than most people. She can afford proper and extensive veterinay care, high quality diet, hire a walker, personal groomer, etc. We don't know if she does or does not give them this level of care but just because she isn't well liked, and people are jealous of her priviledged life doesn't make her a bad pet owner. Nor does owning many of them in and of itself. Good owner or not, I guarantee you thousands of puppies were sold that same day across the country, who will find much worse fates than hers would have, without a question or word from the pet shops. To the person who wondered why the pet store didn't 'rent' her the dog so they could ensure his safety while getting good press the answer is clearly in this story, refusing her the pet gave them more publicity than they've ever had and a pat on the back from Peta. It was a financially motivated move not one done in good conscience for the dog's well being. I'd like to see thier sales records for say the past 10 years, and a follow up with each owner to see how the dog is doing now.

A good pet owner would have their pets spay or neutered. I believe that the Los Angles SPCA did go to her house to check on the condition of the animals. However, they were told that since the house was being remodeled all the animals were out at their ranch. If she has more than the number allowed, she should be fined like the rest of the population would be.

Sorry about all the ugly women who post here and your luck, but Paris is still gorgeous and she should be able to spend her money anyway she wishes. She just went to the next pet shop and bought one, the only looser here is the shop owner who refused her money. Dumb
