Pet Store to Paris: No Puppies for You
June 18, 2008 9:49 AM
Someone had to stop Paris Hilton. Who knew it would be a pet store?
The heiress with the mostess walked into The Puppy Store on Los Angeles' Melrose Ave. last weekend in search of a dog she could drag to a photo shoot, according to The New York Post. Hilton fell for a Yorkie but an employee rejected her bid, saying it was clearly "an impulse buy." Her screams of "I love my puppies! I want my baby!" fell on deaf ears -- Paris stormed out of the store empty-handed.
The Puppy Store declined ABCNEWS.com's requests for comment. But People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals couldn't be happier.
"Paris and her ilk need to understand these are animals -- not accessories. PETA applauds The Puppy Store for doing a responsible thing and turning Paris Hilton away," PETA said in a statement to ABCNEWS.com. "It's no secret that her impetuous 'pet' purchases and apparent lack of caretaking skills have been a serious concern of PETA's for a long time -- she has changed dogs as often as she changes hairstyles. Dogs are a lifelong commitment, and require proper care, love and attention to flourish."
Indeed, Hilton can't toss aside a pet as she does last season's purse, but that hasn't stopped her from amassing a menagerie of animals large enough to fill an ark. In February, the heiress revealed on "The Ellen DeGeneres" show, "I have 17 dogs -- lots. They all sleep in my bed -- well, not all of them, but I let some of them."
Why does she have more puppies than a small pound? "They keep having babies," she told DeGeneres, "and I feel bad about giving them away."
But apparently, she doesn't feel bad about adding another pooch to the pile.

Why should she spay/neuter her animals if she has the means, space, and time to care for them all? As long as a dog or cat won't be released or abandoned and start a feral colony out in the streets, there is no actual reason to mutilate the animal by removing its natural ability to reproduce. If she can afford 1000 dogs and they all get the proper level of care there is no reason she shouldn't. Im not saying she does devote the time, care or money necessary, I'm just saying we don't know that she doesn't - and people are so quick to cast judgment without knowing any of the facts.

Aren't there laws that prevent people from having this many pets w/out requiring some kind of kennel license?

Whyt doesn't the SPCA neuter Paris? We need to nip stupid and useless before it breeds.

People especially NEWS organizations should REALLY do their research before publishing a story. This whole ALLEGED incident NEVER happened according to Paris' rep (Access Hollywood contacted her rep and have a story up about it). People just love making things up. I just love how gossip travels much faster and is more widely reported than the actual truth is (which the truth is the incident NEVER occurred).
Also how do people know what type of care Paris' animals get to know that she's this God awful pet owner? You don't. I am so sick of people assuming the worst simply b/c they dislike her. You don't have to like her but just because you don't does not in any way mean she's the world's most awful pet owner. I swear the way some people act you'd think she was abusing her pets or something.

She is one dopey cow.
Well done to the pet store. Hope they get tons of publicity. How thats what you call a responsible shop owner!

Why doesn't someone make her spay and neuter all those pets? This is ridiculous!

As long as she is taking care of the dogs, I don't care how many she has. If they are being neglected in any way, the SPCA should look into it like any other person.
I can't say take them away because she has a lot of dogs. I only have had 2 at the most at one time, but I can't say that if I was a millionaire I wouldn't have a pack of dogs to go rollerblading like Cesar Milan. That's almost a kind of unrealistic dream. I love doggies and would love to have many (as many as I could love and take care of that is...and for me now, that's 1 doggy). Me personally, I would have chosen American Bulldogs over Yorkies, but we can't all be perfect :)

I'll stick with my pit bull...the one who was rescued from being tied up to a fence in Spanish Harlem...that is one happy dog...

I imagine her dogs have a pretty nice setup, not to mention the hired help probably makes sure their fed and walked. Just because shes a flake that doesnt make her a dog abuser

No one here is thinking about the dogs, only how much they despise Paris Hilton. Her dogs are living high, from diamond collars to gourmet dog food. If anyone raided your home without merit just because they thought you were a diphole, you would all be crying discrimination. And for the record I cant stand her either...

You would think Paris could afford to spay and nueter them dogs. People who don't usually can't afford it.

This woman is becoming increasingly more stupid with every breath she takes.

Why doesn't someone spay & neuter her & save this country some sanity
Posted by: David | Jun 19, 2008 2:24:34 AM
My main concern is that when I read what she said to Ellen DeGeneres, "They keep having babies," she told DeGeneres, "and I feel bad about giving them away." So these puppies she is letting them breed on their own isn't good enough? She has to buy more? I honestly feel she needs some Psychological Help...She should also take a nice long visit to some Humane shelters and see all of the puppies they have that she could adopt, instead of having her puppies (dogs, cats)left unspaded or not nueter! But that is just my opinion.

Kudos the store clerk for refusing what was most probably an impulse buy. Sadly, however, all celebrities have to do to get around that kind of barrier and get what they want is to offer someone with less integrity sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll to go in and do it for them.

Instead of spending money on dogs, she should buy herself a little brain!
She could buy both if she wanted though.
