Trump: Hathaway's the Con, Not Follieri
July 01, 2008 6:10 PM
The story behind Anne Hathaway's split with recently arrested Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri has everyone buzzing. That includes multi-billion dollar real estate tycoon Donald Trump, who lashed out at the starlet.
"After [his legal troubles] she was gone … and fast!," Trump said in a statement issued by his publicist to ABCNEWS.com. "Sadly, that seems to be the way life works."
The couple, who had been together since 2005, reportedly called it quits just days before the arrest of the Italian businessman and the premiere of Hathaway’s new movie, “Get Smart.” According to The Associated Press, Follieri allegedly spent millions of dollars of investors' money on his posh lifestlye, including an apartment in Trump Towers.
“She hasn’t remained very loyal to him, has she?” Trump added in an interview with Access Hollywood. “So when he had plenty of money, she liked him, but then after that, not as good, right?”
Hathaway’s representative declined to comment. But the actress' latest film, “Get Smart” was the No. 1 movie at the box office the weekend it opened, raking in close to $40 million. She's now busy filming a new flick, “Bride Wars,” with Kate Hudson. Considering her big screen success and the paychecks that come with it, does it really seem like the "Devil Wears Prada" star dated Follieri for three years because of his money? Or should Trump lay off her because she probably just "got smart?"
What do you think?

"The Donald" lead with his jackass bray yet again. Ms. Hathaway did not cut & run when Follieri's money was gone, it was never his money, it was the money that he stole from clients. Ms. Hathaway was smart and courageous to have ended the relationship before being dragged down into a cesspool and having her brilliant career sullied or ruined. If "The Donald" is concerned over payment for the Trump Towers unit then he should collect it from the deadbeat crook he is so adamant to defend. Donald, get a haircut, it is obviously causing the excess retention of heat in your head and your brain is getting fried.

Oy vey, this sure is a sticky situation, isn't it? My opinion is that Donald may be right to a degree, and Anne is right up to a point. There really are too many people who just leave their mates after he big bucks have been spent! Anne also may have had a bad feeling...intuition, perhaps...that her boyfriend was up to no good or was not being truthful to her and got out while the getting was good. the thing that makes me wonder about her motives a bit is the timing of the break-up, which happened just a couple of days before Follieri's arrest...hmmmm...

I see a woman cutting ties with a criminal, alleged anyway. Now, if she knew before that his wealth was ill-gotten gains (as Gomer Pyle used to say) then, yes, she's as sleazy as he is.

Wow, so I guess he would expect his wife to stand by his side if she found out he was secretly stealing money? Screw that...It would be different if she knew and was a part of it, but it sounds like she didn't know and had every right to get herself away from that kind of situation as soon as possible.

I would have dumped his butt too. It's a good thing she found out about this before they decided to get married and he squandered her millions. If my husband did something like that his butt would be hitting the curb faster than you can say "Divorce Court".

From what I've read Anne has stood by him when other accusations were levelled at him-she probably wanted to believe he was on the up-and-up but it seems like it came to the point where she could no longer defend him. I think she did the right thing. In fact, it would have looked worse if she stayed with him by giving the appearance that she approved of his actions.
As for D. Trump-I just have to laugh when I look at these old, unattractive- and in his case bloated-really wealthy men who have these gorgeous, supermodel wives. Does 'The Donald' really think that his beautiful wife would be with him if he was just regular Joe who works at the carwash? I think not!

Maybe some responders don't like Trump's comments or Hathaway's actions. Big deal. What gives you the right to be judge and jury for things about which aren't even your business? You've got judgments galore and most are just mean. Let some of that spew your way and see how you feel. Let some more of your comments be the focus of newspaper fodder and see how you look.
Try being real people and treat others decently despite their afflictions which in this case appears to be their "money" and choices with which you don't agree.
They are entitled to the same actions, choices, statements that the rest of us are. In this day and age it's the sad norm that many take out their own garbage on others. Take a collective look in the mirror and see what you can change about yourselves to accept other people just as they are. It would make for quite a welcome reduction in asses and a welcome increase in nicer folks who are willing to let other people just be. Work on yourselves for humanities sake and figure out how to drop the meanness and thinly disguised envy.

Donald Trump needs to shut his fat yap. I think all the glue he uses to keep his ugly hair in place is affecting his brain. He certainly dumped his wives fast enough when something younger and sexier came along, so who is he to judge? Anne Hathaway did the only thing a smart woman could do - distance herself from a con artist.

What did Anne Hathaway know and when did she know? If she knew he was a con man and did not go to the cops or if she helped him with his lies then she should be in trouble.

Donald didn’t remained very loyal to Ivanna, did he? So when Ivanna was young and beautiful, Donald liked Ivanna, but then when she started to show her age, not as good, right?
So Donald dumped Ivanna for Marla Maples.
Sounds like Donald is getting insecure. If he lost his money, his current wife would dump him pretty fast too.

Donald Trump! Shut up!!! He is such a creep. And, he's always been a creep. Needs to be hit by a bus.

Trump thinks just because all of his "Golddiggers "stayed with him when they found out he was crooked he figures she should have done the same!
