Paula: Simon's No Match for Me & Kara

The rumors have them catfighting -- but Paula Abdul says it was friendship at first sight for her and new “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi.
“I met her on the streets of New York and found out that she was an aspiring songwriter,” Abdul told ABC News at the taping of "Fashion Rocks" over the weekend. "‘I said, ‘Do you have anything for me?’ She said, ‘Get out!’”
In a sweet scene straight from a romantic comedy (circa 1990?) the pop star took the then-budding songwriter to lunch, listened to her music and just like that, gave her a big break.
Though Abdul seemed generally confused on the red carpet, her memories of DioGuardi were crystal clear.
“Come move in with me in L.A.,” Abdul remembers saying to DioGuardi. “And she did. She quit her job.”
After a quick cross-country move, the crazy-fast friends subsequently co-wrote a hit song for Australian singer Kylie Minogue. And though they eventually went their separate ways, the former BFF’s reunite as DioGuardi takes up residence on the upcoming season of “Idol.”
Abdul said surly Simon Cowell will be no match for their girl power.
“I don’t think Simon ever thought I was getting one of my old roommates and one of my closest friends.”
