'Gossip Girl' Stars Want 'McCain-Free America'

October 14, 2008 1:15 PM

Nm_blake_penn_081014_mn They may be all about Marc Jacobs, Manolos and malicious back-stabbing on their hit TV show, but in real life, the stars of "Gossip Girl" have greater aims: making sure Barack Obama beats John McCain Nov. 4.

Penn Badgley and Blake Lively are starring in a new MoveOn.org commercial parodying those iconic '80s and '90s anti-drug ads -- but instead of pushing parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs, Badgley and Lively are urging kids to talk to their parents about the dangers of another Republican in the White House.

"Mom? Dad?  I found this in your room," Badgley says, holding up a Drill Baby Drill! hat. Lively closes the 30-second commercial with: "If you're ever out somewhere and you're considering voting McCain, just call me.  I'll pick you up.  No questions asked."

The ad will air nationally during the CW drama as well as on MTV and Comedy Central in university towns in North Carolina and Nevada. The joke continues on the Partnership for a McCain-Free America Web site, which features the ad as well as real talking points young folks can use to have "the conversation."

"This will be the most important election of our lifetimes when you think about what is at stake," said Doug Liman, who directed the commercial as well as "The Bourne Identity" and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." "Young people get it, they are voting overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. Too many of their parents are still on the fence and I thought it was important to make this ad and let my generation and older generations know that the younger generation is clear: They want a future and a country led by Barack Obama."

Well if Dan Humphrey and Serena van der Woodsen want Obama as much as they want Ivy League acceptance letters and front-row seats at fashion week, perhaps their fans will push their parents to want him too.

Well, gosh! Now I can sleep better! I will not be voting for McCain just because Gossip Girl and the guy from John Tucker Must Die says he shouldn't be in office. What would I ever do without them?

Who are these cretin nobodies and why does ABCnews think we give a squat what their illiterate heads think?
I'll bet you none of these nobodies can even read or write.
Believe it.

I don't know which is funnier...that actors (now even newbie 'it' actors) think we care what they think, or the fact that ABC News thinks this is a "Top Headline"! LOL

Who the hell are these kids?

Well, Blake Lively is hotter than Sarah Palin. So I'll definitely be voting for Obama now. I'm pretty sure Blake will go out with me if I do (fingers crossed).

I have never. And who are they anyway.
Young people of America just don't get it. They will be the one to take this world down. My bumper stick says OBAMA
One BIG A$$ Mistake America. Read that and weep. Wake up you need to get a life. If he gets in the white house it will be a disaster.

Where is your spirit sports- (or may I say poli-) manship?

Anger will just make the 8 years of President Obama a little guilty for you to enjoy.

I'm a Democrat and I'm really afraid for my country. Can we lock up this person with Obama Girl and all of the "news" websites that posted their comments and send them to Bin Laden for fun? Please stop insulting your readers with this drivel!

Would you democrat supporters make a 1st year teacher the new superintendent?
How about making a manager in training the new CEO of a huge company?
It is not about race, it is about experience. Why him? Couldn't they find someone who has served longer than the 1 year Obama did before choosing to run? He has no executive experience.

AND THAT DOES'T SEEM TO BOTHER ANY OF YOU?????

Seriously, I love my shows and I have my Favorite actors/actress' but that is just what they are, performers. Not economist, not political geniuses...just very talented pretenders. It's like taking political advice from your mail man!

Posted by: Dani | Oct 14, 2008 2:35:19 PM

Only numbskulls will vote for numbskulls...like those who would vote for Marion Barry again and again for Mayor of DC even AFTER he was caught on camera doing crack-cocaine with his mistress. Stupid people choose and deserve morons to lead them.

Posted by: Present130 | Oct 14, 2008 2:37:04 PM

Oh man ... these poor Gossip Girl "actors" cannot even act in an infomercial! So sad. I cannot wait for their show to get yanked.

Posted by: Olivia | Oct 14, 2008 2:38:52 PM

For the people at ABC to think that anyone cares what the "stars" of Gossip Girls have to say about the election is ludacris.
The Hollywood Obama bandwagon has turned into a uninformed clown car and shame on ABC for perpetuating the ridiculousness.

Posted by: UNfrigginBELIEVABLE | Oct 14, 2008 2:39:54 PM

The people that are voting for McCain are not mad. Just concerned for this country- Just what we need in the country a racist and the racist michelle Obama. That is what is scary. We are not mad we are concerned and with good cause. Obama is just saying what you followers want to hear. BIG MISTAKE IF HE GETS ELECTED.

Posted by: Sandy | Oct 14, 2008 2:40:42 PM

I love it when the Hollywood idiots express their opinions. It certainly will be a factor when I go to vote.
