'Gossip Girl' Stars Want 'McCain-Free America'
October 14, 2008 1:15 PM
They may be all about Marc Jacobs, Manolos and malicious back-stabbing on their hit TV show, but in real life, the stars of "Gossip Girl" have greater aims: making sure Barack Obama beats John McCain Nov. 4.
Penn Badgley and Blake Lively are starring in a new MoveOn.org commercial parodying those iconic '80s and '90s anti-drug ads -- but instead of pushing parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs, Badgley and Lively are urging kids to talk to their parents about the dangers of another Republican in the White House.
"Mom? Dad? I found this in your room," Badgley says, holding up a Drill Baby Drill! hat. Lively closes the 30-second commercial with: "If you're ever out somewhere and you're considering voting McCain, just call me. I'll pick you up. No questions asked."
The ad will air nationally during the CW drama as well as on MTV and Comedy Central in university towns in North Carolina and Nevada. The joke continues on the Partnership for a McCain-Free America Web site, which features the ad as well as real talking points young folks can use to have "the conversation."
"This will be the most important election of our lifetimes when you think about what is at stake," said Doug Liman, who directed the commercial as well as "The Bourne Identity" and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." "Young people get it, they are voting overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. Too many of their parents are still on the fence and I thought it was important to make this ad and let my generation and older generations know that the younger generation is clear: They want a future and a country led by Barack Obama."
Well if Dan Humphrey and Serena van der Woodsen want Obama as much as they want Ivy League acceptance letters and front-row seats at fashion week, perhaps their fans will push their parents to want him too.

Please give us a break, ABC. Will you please stop reporting such nonsense? Anyone with a brain does not care about what these little loons say about politics. I am surprised this one can even read her ballot to cast a vote. UGH!

OBAMA How can you vote for a man that WILL NOT salute the flag of your country. Your all a bunch of idiots just like OBAMA maybe you should all get on a plane and go live in IRAQ.

Song and Dance Monkeys like these two need to stick to their craft and leave the thinking to those with a brain.

Fabulous!!! The same brain dead folks who Voted for Bush/Cheney Not once but Twice wants 4 more years of the same. What else is left of USA for McCain to destroy ? Al Qaeda WON. They were out to destroy USA's economy. Little did they know Bush/Cheney executed the Plan flawlessly. Well Done, RePukes.

To the Obama Fan Club...The only reason Obama will win the election, is because he's the lesser of 2 evils. It's the only reason I and others are voting for him. NOBODY wants George Bush Part 2 in there. So there really is no other choice. Please... I'd vote Paris Hilton over McCain.

I would send those kids to their room with no phone, Ipod, internet or painkillers for a week.

Ok. I hear your comment about what you think is right. Well as a parent of a teenager that watches your show I have the right to bar that show from being seen. Hollywood has no right to tell me what they think and what my daughter should hear. I am disgusted with Hollywood today. You have no class, brains, and just common etiquette. I don't care what you think. I don't want to hear what you think. I don't want you influencing my daughter to what she thinks. She can think for her own self. How old are these kids anyway? What have they seen in life? I am a single parent raising my child with no support. I pay all of my bills and we live a decent honest life. HOLLYWOOD SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To George: Al queda won? If they did there would have been many more terrorist attacks in this country-and you might be one of the victims.
By the way -the democrats control the congress-so why isn't any economic blame going there way? You don't know too much of anything do you?

While I agree that your vote should not be based on which celebrities are backing each candidate, why the hell is everyone so bent out of shape over this commercial? These kids never claimed to be geniuses or know everything about politics. They are simply expressing their opinions (something everyone on here is doing), just through a different outlet. Young people can't win- if we sit back and do nothing we are lazy and ignorant and self-centered, but when we actually attempt to take a stand, we get told to sit down and shut up because we don't know anything.

I hope Obama taxes these 2 250k plus earners back to the stone age. Seriously, is it fair they get paid what they do for something so frivolous as "gossip girl". Obama needs to give some other people a far shot at propserity - and it should come off the backs of these losers.

More proof that the US is doomed. Holy crap. A movie star wants an empty suit democrat in office. What is next? The NRA will back a republican? Make an informed decision people by researching the candidate and not listening to the idiots in hollywood.

Anita do you really think Obama supports the notion of sending those that disagree with him to Russia. Obama is for all Americans - please dont make such radical posts - your views dont match Obama's.

Their ratings must be in the toilet if they need this kind of exposure. MoveOn. Please.

Attention studio execs and advertisers, looks like I won’t be tuning into Gossip Girl anytime soon. Penn Badgley and Blake Lively have just joined my list of performers such as Tim Robins, his wife, the Dixie Chicks, Danny Glover, Johnny Depp, and others that I go out of my way to NOT support by watching their programs, buying tickets to their movies or buying their DVDs. I boycott any performer that uses their celebrity status to get a soapbox to tell me about politics like they are someone special. We ALL know they THINK they are special and their option matters but the truth is NOBODY built up by Hollywood has a clue about what really matters! By the way Doug, younger voters don’t know any better yet!

Sarah Palin's family is the worst thing that can happen to this country. One kid is knocked-up, unwed and a highschool drop-out and now her "boyfriend" just announced that he will also "drop-out" of highschool. Todd Palin barely finished highschool and Sarah spend 6 years and 5 colleges trying to get a simple degree. An American family to look up to - how refereshing! More like the Jerry Springer show at the White House - Thanks, but no thanks!!!
