Will People Watch the 'Sarah Palin Show'?

October 27, 2008 7:24 AM

Ap_palin_081027_mn Polls show Sarah Palin's chances of assuming the vice presidency are fading fast. But that's not to say she's not wanted -- Hollywood's motioning for the 44-year-old hockey mom to come to their town instead of the nation's capital. And one industry veteran thinks Palin could be the next Oprah Winfrey.

"She's attractive, she's of the moment, she's polarizing in a way that makes for very good ratings. She is the magical combination," said Michael Levine, founder of Los Angeles' LCO PR agency who counts the careers of Demi Moore, Jon Stewart and Kathy Griffin among his successes. "Whatever that 'it' factor is, Sarah Palin's got it. You watch her on TV and you just can't take your eyes off her. She's just very appealing. I'm not saying I support her, but she's a very appealing lady."

Levine thinks an "Oprah" type talk show is the perfect forum for Palin to harness her Hollywood appeal.

"She could be a political Oprah. Talking about topics of the day: pregnancy, parenting, that kind of thing," he said. "I think she could interview celebrities too, but debate would be a good format for her."

Other media figures are buzzing about Palin as well. Friday, veteran morning-show producer Steve Friedman cited the double-digit ratings her stints on "Saturday Night Live" and "CBS Evening News" generated, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "Any television person who sees the numbers when she appears on anything would say Sarah Palin would be great. The passion she has on each side, love and hate, makes television people say, 'Wow, imagine the viewership.'"

Palin wouldn't be the first participant in the '08 election to parlay a political career into a television gig. Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee just began his own weekly series on Fox News.

"She's got to decide if she wants to pursue a life of public service with five kids and take the abuse and aggravation that comes with that or if she wants to get out of that life and get into a media life where she can become very wealthy and arguably have more influence than the governor of Alaska," Levine mused.

And would he be willing to play Palin's publicist?

"If asked, of course," he said. "She's done nothing immoral. I find her very appealing."

The question is, outside of the context of the '08 election, will American audiences find her appealing as well?

ABC gets pretty low.

Making a Mockery of The Presidential Election, Just like the one who owns you.

I gather obama 12 year old mentality has spread with his mind control.

For this one NOT on your life ...She is a show and has given the country one going on three months,I find her sicken...

Other than being a moron, she is qualified for Hollywood. It is McCain and Palin who have made a mockery of the Presidential Election not ABC. Grow up!

Whichever Network or Cable/Satellite provider broadcasts a Sarah Plain Stupid show, they deserve to be boycotted. We've seen her show and it is not worth watching......turn the channel.

Sarah Palin is really nothing more than a flash in the pan. Give it a year, and no one in the lower 48 will give a hoot.

No, I won't tune in. God, no. What an annoying person. I can't think of a single subject I'm interested in hearing her opinion on. Really. I can't wait for her to return to obscurity in Alaska and become the answer to a trivia question.

Sarah Palin?!!

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Whew! Thank you, ABC! I needed a good laugh to start my day.

Would Ted Nuggent be her co-host?

Posted by: Terri508 | Oct 27, 2008 8:14:47 AM

I would think that we have had enough of Palin in the last three months.

What can she say or do? Her opinion is not worth anything, as she doesn't know what she's talking about, life in general or politics.

She may have a pretty face, annoying voice and as smart as dumb dora.

At a time in our history when the people need to come together and find common ground, there are amoral greedy enemies of "the people" who are willing to do anything for a buck. Of course Palin will go where ever her narcissism drives her, including a socially divisive entertainment format. She is a socio-whore. Those who believe her campaign rhetoric about being "for the people" need only look at her actions to date to realize she is merely an egomaniac. How sad for our nation that she was ever born.

No, I will not ever tune in to watch such a show with her running it. She's way too polarizing and far-right for me to watch her. She's only good for the Far-Right Christian Channel with her views.

Yet if she becomes a striper, a lot of guys will drool for her though, even though she's married. :p

I truly doubt if she will make it as a talk host advisory. She is has proven over and over again that she is stupid. But who knows look at Elizabeth H. she is dumb as well and they found her from a reality show! Palin is over - once this has all died down! We all know she will try to run in 2012 for President but the GOP will tear her apart. Mitt Romney is laughing his butt off right about now.. He and a many others haven't said a word since she has open her mouth up.

She flirted with America and that wasn't nice at all!

Posted by: Timko | Oct 27, 2008 8:28:10 AM

I would watch, she's so damn mavericky!

Posted by: SMOKE666 | Oct 27, 2008 8:40:21 AM

The show could have Bristol, her 2 kids, and her deadbeat boyfriend. This Could be beter than Jerry Springer.

Posted by: Eric | Oct 27, 2008 8:41:38 AM

Damnright, what a gal

Sarah P. is awesome! I love how she makes the lefties squirm. Let's face it who would you rather look at some old bags like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, etc. or the hottest hockey mom you will ever see. Now let's be honest Hussein voters. Everyone thinks Sarah is a hottie and so do you, just admit it.

no way would I watch it....she is as dumb as a bag of hammers and that screechy voice and stupid down home flair has no appeal

Posted by: cos1020 | Oct 27, 2008 8:50:13 AM

I could see palin getting a part on the Red-Green Show. She would fit right in.

Posted by: pt | Oct 27, 2008 8:50:55 AM
