Brad Pitt Opens Up about Fatherhood
November 19, 2008 1:10 PM
Brad Pitt may appear to lead the glamorous red carpet life of a celebrity but at home his six kids keep him real.
“I’m hard as nails,” he said on an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that airs today. “I’m impervious to poo, snot, urine, vomit. You can’t get me. You cannot break me down. In the beginning it was like, ‘Oh God, how do they vomit that much?’ Now it’s like, ‘Look, that’s half a hot dog.’”
More serious, he added, “(Having children is) a great mirror for yourself, for how you are, how you react. They make me a better person. It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever taken on. I can’t imagine my life without them.”
Pitt opened up to Winfrey about his life as a father while promoting his upcoming film, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
He talked about newborn twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline – saying the boy looks like him and the girl, like mother Angelina Jolie – and how he and Jolie initially tried to manage without hired help.
“In the beginning, it was mainly us doing both shifts,” Pitt said. Now, he said, “We have help in the night because we want to be there for the others ones in the day. But not every night.”
“Hats off to all the parents out there,” Pitt added.
Asked by a viewer if he’s ever been alone with all six children, he admitted, “Four is usually my limit on my own, so far. I hope to advance.”
Pitt doesn’t shirk from being the disciplinarian either, except when it comes to the girls. “The girls do no wrong,” he said. “The boys I have to pull them up. We have the time out chair. I end up in it.”
He’s also given up on quick outings with the kids. “We don’t go to the mall. It’s like a half an hour just to get everyone buckled in and make sure they’ve got their snacks, and Z.Z. (3-year-old Zahara) has got a blanket and Shiloh’s got her silky. Angie’s militant about it. She’s right on top of it. Thank God, because I’m always forgetting something.”
Pitt also couldn’t resist telling funny stories about his children. He said 2-year-old Shiloh’s latest quirk is “she only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it’s a Peter Pan thing. So we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want …’ – ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just that kind of stuff that's cute to parents, and it's probably really obnoxious to other people.”
At the top of the show, Winfrey asked the question that has been the latest subject of the rumor mill: will Pitt and Jolie have more children? “Probably,” he said.
When Winfrey told him, “you seem happier than you’ve ever been,” Pitt replied, “I daresay.”
Pitt is not the only celebrity talking up the joys of parenthood. Nicole Kidman, who gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose four months ago, suggested that she may take a break from acting to expand her family.
“In terms of my future as an actor, I don't know,” she said last night at the premiere of her new film, “Australia.” “I've had some great opportunities and I may just choose to have some more children.”
If her greying roots were any indication, clearly Kidman has more important things on her mind.

Now, Brad say's he takes care of the childern? Now why does he have 6 nannies than? One for each child. Nannies are hired to take care of childern so the parents do not have to.
I do not believe for one second that Brad and Angie take care of these childern. That is what a Nanny is for and why people hire them. Ya, they have childern but give them to someone else to look after.

Nicole Kidnman's gray roots? Why must sexist remarks be included here - I didn't see anything about Brad Pitts gray hair - and we all know he probably has some!! WHO CARES!

windyblue--You are right on. Egomaniacs like Jolie, Pitt and Madonna see these children as good spin. Jolie couldn't be UN Ambassador to anything based on merit alone. She had to adopt a child from every country she visited to make herself camera friendly to these nations populace. What kind of example are these types setting for "their children?"

none of you haters out there know anything about brad and angelina, They are doing more than any of you dare dream..I have 2 kids, and i sometimes wish i could afford a nanny. as far as adoption, if adoption was easier here in the wonderful us of a, she probably would have adopted from here. however it is not the case. she has given these children a home, a family , love, that may not mean much to you, but to those kids, it is everything, STOP JUDGING PEOPLE YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Oh goodie! When he's done, maybe he can tell us all about the marvels of "marriage"!! LOL.. These two are a bunch of yahoos...they should have had to apply for a permit before allowing them to adopt anyone!

I am just sick of hearing about their
kids. Brad looks awful and they are
not the only people in the world with
kids. Put them in school, stay in one
place and acutally be a family. Pimping
them out isn't good for them. Did you
have them just for the publicity?

LOL-maybe they did apply for a US adoption and were rejected. That would be one reason they had to adopt from the 3rd world.

Christina--Why do you feel the need to stand up for those you don't know?
Do you think Pitt and Jolie are some kind of role models? Maybe for those that make over $20 million a year, but to me I see a celebrity couple using these kids to show how "evolved" they are. Kind of like one-upping your neighbors. Instead of lawn furniture they use human children.

Having children is not enough to make anyone a good parent. If Brad Pitt really looks in that mirror he comments about, he may see the reflection of a house full of children that are unkempt. If they are messy, without shoes and eating a bunch of junk food in nearly every picture that we see of them in public, just imagine how it is at home. SCARY! They should really concentrate on taking better care of the children they have before the ponder having any more.

You haters are just jealous!!!
I see nothing wrong with wanting to be with someone you love and having a big heart for homeless children. Do any of you haters ever considered adopting? Probably not... You don't have big enough of a heart to understand the desire to do right. Hurray to those who adopt!!!

Mmmm, I'd love Brad to be my daddy but I think Angie would object. LOL

what i think is that there are good and bad people ,and we realy dont know what is going on so we have no wright to coment, because if they are bad parents wish i honestly dont think they are, we are being bad by saying they are , and if they are some day they will get what they diserve with or without our coment's. so relax people and live your own life and let them do what ever they whant .

Is it true Brad Pitt is becoming a " Fathers rights activist"
Posted by: scott | Nov 19, 2008 3:18:06 PM
JD: You might be right but something tells me they would not have gained 1/2 of the publicity they have for adopting white, American children so somehow I don't think they ever tried...just a thought...

We don't really know how they treat their kids. The media portrays images and we take them however we want to. If being a parent has help Brad, then good for him!! If it has also helped Angelina, then I'm happy for her. Most rich people hire nannies. Also, most rich people don't donate money or adopt. Jolie and Pitt have created foundatiations to help those in need; they are not being selfish. Yes, I do think they should give their kids undivided attention and take care of them and love them, especially the little ones because it is crucial to their development. We have seen pictures of Brad and Angelina with the kids..we don't REALLY know their lives, so who are we to judge?

Are any of you people on here parents? Why did you have kids?? I myself was a party girl, good job, excess money, too much time, totally self absorbed. When I got pregnant my daughter changed my life, I fell in love and became a totally different person. People who see me now with my family are like wow, you have changed, so if being a mom changed me why can't it change Brad and Angelina? You people are so cynical.

I do belive parenting can change people's lives (for the better for the most part) and this is the case for the Jolie-Pitt's. We are making a big deal out of this because they are celebrities and probably because we have no lifes!

Brad opens up about parenthood???? Like they've been clamming up and keeping it a secret??? Puh-lease, that's all those two have talked about since their cheating beginning. I agree with the post about Kidman's grey hairs while no mention of the deep crevices that have appeared on Pitt's face since jumping onto the kid-collecting Jolie bandwagon. He looks 100yrs older than when he was with Jen just three years ago. Jen still looks great & Brangelina is looking old and worn out. Serves 'em right.

I'm a native of New Orleans and I have seen Brad Pitt out and about with his kids. He's a great father! And, according to trustworthy friends and sources, Brad and Angelina are very hands on...they do not have 6 nannies. Why can't anyone ever believe that celebrities can be awesome parents as well?!
