Hasselbeck: Obama Win Is 'Victory'

November 05, 2008 1:15 PM

Abc_view_hasselbeck_02_081105_mn Like Ohio, Florida, New Mexico and Virginia did Tuesday night, John McCain’s sole holdout on “The View” has flipped sides. Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s now for Barack Obama.

The conservative co-host, who supported McCain through many a heated coffee-table debate during the 2008 election, revealed today that she fully backs the president-elect.

“View” creator Barbara Walters turned to Hasselbeck in the first few minutes of the show and said, “All eyes are gonna be on you. How do you feel?”

The 31-year-old mother of two launched into a story about how her daughter Grace had asked her who lost the election after watching Obama’s victory speech:

“I said, ‘You know what Grace, no one lost today.’ … Today is a victory for this country, the first black president, the first black first lady -- family, to have the amount of voters. … Fourteen million more voters in this election than the last, present themselves and vote for their country. Today is victory. I haven’t felt this good through the entire election process.”

Joy Behar, Hasselbeck’s frequent foil, then took the opportunity to gloat -- “are you saying I was right all along?” -- before offering the blonde a handshake. Hasselbeck responded with a fist bump.

“The power that he has,” she said. “I will get in a long line of supporters because I wasn’t the first, but I will jump in that line and support our president because as an American, that is what I believe we should do.”

Time to force immigration now that we got the votes. Give the 11 million jobs to the poor.

Hell, if she's wishy washy she'd be considered a dummycrap...

Why didn't you use that tone of Patriotism during the election instead of the obnoxious negative attacks on Obama for the last 18 months?

Posted by: Anna Fig | Nov 5, 2008 1:30:06 PM

Exactly, shes in shes out, shes for shes against, what an idiot, good for the moment with really little or no respect for what she has to say. Drama Queen!

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday she was shilling about rev. wright. Hasselbeck's a disgrace.

So what, she was a McCain supporter, now that we have a new president she is being a true American and pledging her support for our future president, that to me shows what a true American is. Which is more than I can say about some of the other people on the view, for instance Sherri, you know, the one that had "more abortions then I would like to count" or Barbera, the one that admitted she was an adulterer!!!! I would much rather hear what Elizabeth has to say then any of the other has been on this show!

I for one am not a fan of Elisabeth's but I admire what she told her daughter.

I wish everyone feel that we should no matter what side your were on SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT

I was a republican who decided I could not vote for Sarah Palin nor MR. McCain. I chose to put Sarah first as she was the main reason I made my decission. She TRIED to DEVIDE our Country time and time again. I who attened a rally was shocked and horrified when people would shout horrible things and Sarah Palin just went on or when she described "AMERICA" to all. Sarah Palin I hope you will be like Elisabeth and explain to YOUR children that I had a part in trying to divide......

Sell out!!

I dont know what to think , but if this is sincere.. and only she knows, then i would extend a handshake and say welcome aboard.
However in 4 years we will see where she stands.

I think Elisabeth is thinking what many other McCain supporters are feeling -- which is that we accept that our side lost, but now is the time to come together and support President-elect Obama as he prepares to take the lead of our great country. I still have issues with Obama's past associations, but there is nothing that can be done about that now -- it is now my job as an American to support the new President, just as I have in previous years.

Come on people! She supported and argued for the person she felt was the best candidate. She is now standing up and saying, just as most of the politicians that lost, it was a good fight and now I will stand behind the man that was chosen to lead this country, as all Americans should. Thats not wishy washy that is trying to be the best american that she can. I dont agree with her most of the time but she probably couldnt choke right for most of you all......

all you doom profiters are boring,

obama has asked all of us to help him rebuild america

if you love america as you have claimed to love america, if you want to put country first, obama has extended his hand...

so why not lay your divisive ugly attacks

obama isnt a socialist, and he isnta communist and he wont govern from the far left

he has to bring peopel together, and the only way to do that is to govern from the center

unlike bush, and the 6 years of republican controlled rule, obama will lead his majority by inclusion, not by exclusion

we learned that that doesnt work after the last 6 years...

Chicks...

Gotta love 'em.

Posted by: Jim Rousch | Nov 5, 2008 1:47:50 PM

And this chick is famous because of why...?

Posted by: James | Nov 5, 2008 1:48:08 PM

I hope Obama is everything that the voters feel he can be.But in a few months and after the first bumps in the road happen the media who loved him so much will start to attack him also.
Just the way it is...No controversy, no news.
Him being the answer to everyones prayers will be but a dream the moment he does not support or has to go against things he promised to do.
Tough job, hope he can help this country.

I do not think Elizabeth flipped sides. She and I both voted for McCain but he lost. It is our duty as Americans to support and follow our President no matter who he is. I often felt sorry for her being the only McCain supporter on the view. Joy Behar was plain mean and ugly to her.

Posted by: Ray | Nov 5, 2008 1:49:09 PM

Hasselbeck doesn't support Obama and neither do I. If you don't understand what she means then get someone to spell it out for you. Hasselbeck is saying we are all American's and should stand together instead of apart. If McCain won she would say the same thing. I voted for McCain a true American because I am not fooled like this generation of young people who don't understand politics. All they see is a half black man speaking about change but his change didn't mean change in Washington, his change meant changing a white president to a half black president. There is nothing to change in Washington. The worst is yet to come and this generation hasn't experienced it,

Posted by: Angie in | Nov 5, 2008 1:50:27 PM

It is time to get the "angry mob" out of the Republican party. My friends that are Republican are not the angry hate mongoring, fear spreading, more moral than ye people, that have been representing that party for the last 8 yrs. I agree with whomever said Sarah Palin was fueling that fire of hate and devision. WE "REAL" WOMAN NEED TO STAND UP AND BE THE EXAMPLE OF THE UNITED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
