The Performance That Cowed Cowell

April 15, 2009 10:21 AM

Abc_susan_boyle2_090415_blogShe’s the unlikely singing sensation that’s taken Britain and the rest of the world by storm.

Susan Boyle, an unassuming 47-year-old woman who lives with her cat and confesses she’s never even been kissed, wowed the judges, including Simon Cowell, on the U.K. show “Britain’s Got Talent, with her beautiful rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the Broadway hit “Les Miserable.” She brought the audience to their feet and stunned the judges.

Watch her incredible performance here.

An unemployed church volunteer from a tiny Scottish village, she joined the choir when she was just 12 and has been singing ever since. But when she took the stage last Saturday to audition for the judges before a large audience, the judges, especially the critical Cowell were skeptical of the woman with the frizzy brown hair and bushy eyebrows.

Boyle was undaunted. When Cowell asked how old she was, she replied, “I am 47,” then shook her hips and added, “and that’s just one side of me.”

Boyle confessed to Cowell that her dream was to be a professional singer as big as British singer-actress Elaine Paige. When Cowell asked why her dream hasn’t worked out before, she responded, “I haven’t been given the chance before.”

Now that’s she been given the chance to live the dream – the judges gave her three yes’s to return to compete on the show – the virtuous Boyle is poised to become the next pop sensation.

Finally, now THIS is newsworthy. After hearing bad news every day about our corrupt government and failing banks, plus story after story about some stupid dog, this is a realy story about true inspiration. Voice of an angel, go Susan!

With no doubt Susan's voice is so brilliant. But my question is where has she been all this time and come at the end of almost her middle age?

Whatever we do, always timing is very important!

After so much bad news, every little piece of good news we can get our hands on is treasured. Susan Boyle definitely fits that bill. She, perhaps unknowingly, has inspired millions of people (and humbled at least as many, I suspect). I hope her dreams come true and she gets whatever she wants. She is truly a gift. God bless.

i didn't think she was all that good. I think the people got caught up in the emotion. There have been much better singers that have come through. I am very happy for her though.

Here's a soul with true talent, not like Miley Cyrus, the Jonas brothers and the rest of the recycled dreck the corporate "entertainment" machine shoves down the throats of the gullible consumer.

Hopefully this woman with a real talent can make some well-deserved, and needed, money.

A Diamond in the rough. THIS is what our kids need to learn more of. It's not about Blonde Hair, Sexy curves and manufactured in the Studio talent. A voice... a TALENTED voice. This woman has a Wonderful gift and I hope she gets to SHARE IT. Good for her.

I just heard Susan Boyle sing for the first time and it had me in tears! I love Le Mis anyway, and to hear her sing that song like she did was absolutely amazing! As someone in an earlier post said, never judge a book by it's cover. Good for you Susan for having the courage to show the world your wonderful talent! Best of luck to you in the future. I would love to hear more of you!

Wishing her health, wealth in all things, and love. Hopeful, angelic voice that should be shared with a burdened, faltering world.

What a wonderful story. It just goes to show that one should not give up on a dream, no matter how long it takes to reach it...it does not matter that Susan Boyle is 47, and only now being recognized...I believe things happen when they are menat to happen, and she lived her life rather quietly and alone...but she continued to sing and hope...

Sad that the media has to make a deal about her being a never married, never been kissed virgin, so what...may Susan's dreams come true and may she be able to share her gift with those of us who think she is beautiful indeed...true beauty emanates from within....the heart and soul and a sense of humility for striving

-So glad for S. Boyle! When I was in high school, a group of girls tried to push me down a marble staircase because they didn't like my clothes. -Stopped when they heard me sing, too. (Still don't attend reunions.) Lessons people don't recall: Andy Griffith,1963, "Rafe Hollister Sings" & "The Mountain Whippoorwill" by Stephen Vincent Benet. Hooray for S. Boyle! -N.B. Larsen

Hooray for S. Boyle! N.B.L.
