Europeans in U.S. To Probe CIA Prisons

May 08, 2006 12:05 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

As the CIA reels from its management shake-up, a committee of the European Parliament arrives in Washington, D.C. today to continue its investigation of the CIA's secret prisons in Europe.

Members of the committee are seeking to meet with former CIA employees who may know of the existence of the facilities.

The United States maintains that it "does not transport and has not transported detainees from one country to another for the purpose of interrogation using torture."

ABC News has reported the CIA established secret prisons in Romania and Poland in 2002-2003 to house about a dozen top al Qaeda leaders.

ABC News also reported the prisons were shut down earlier this year and the al Qaeda figures moved to a facility in North Africa.

The CIA has declined to comment on the reports.

What we have to do is take the GITMO prison in Cuba and convert it into a resort with cabanas, beach facilities, cocktail hour, order out gourmet foods, and dancing girls. The enemy will surrender by the droves for such harsh punishment. The liberals and ACLU will jump with joy.

Last week the BBC was broadcasting hearings at the EU - glad that European Parliment is following up on this issue. This government has long opperated outside on International Law, and it is time that they admitted their behavior. It does not appear to be a secret except here in the US.

We cannot hold the torch of liberty and justice with one hand and in the other carry a cat of nine tails. A house divided cannot stand....

I'm European, and I strongly agree with CIA's (possible) terrorist hunt and participation in Europe. Many Europeans are hypocritical when it comes to maintaining the security. Tough must be played against by tough.

Aaron Casillas,

You said,

- We cannot hold the torch of liberty and justice with one hand and in the other carry a cat of nine tails.

My question is "why can't we?" We are AMERICA, after all. We define liberty and justice and what they mean.

America stands for right. If we do it, it's not torture. You win wars by being stronger, better and more brutal than the enemy. This is what we will do to win this war. To talk about America abusing human rights is ludicrous. America IS human rights. Whatever we do to win is done in the cause of freedom and human rights.

Those who oppose America oppose God. Since when do enemies of God deserve protection? It's as simple as that.
