From Russia, With Smugglers
May 22, 2006 3:00 PM
Hundreds of illegal immigrants from Russia are sneaking into the United States in style, on sailboats launched from the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Panama.
U.S. officials have identified a well-organized human smuggling ring run out of Moscow that charges $15,000 a head, including airfare from Russia.
Given the connection between al Qaeda and Chechnyan rebels, U.S. authorities fear the route could provide another way for terrorists to get into the country.
Officials have indicted the ring leader in Moscow, nicknamed "Pasha," but say he remains in business, beyond the reach of American law.

Everyday I am hearing about another way illegal immigrants are coming into the United States illegally. When is our government going to put an end to it? I am loosing faith in our government to have a backbone.

Now Bush and the Senate wants to give illegal aliens like these Russians fast-track citizenship. Over-stay your visa by 5 years and and become a US citizen - yes that's what the Senate immigration bill proposes!
All courtesy of Bush, and illegal-lovers in the Senate. May the US House stand up for enforcement of the law!

This is war on all of our borders, waterways and skyways. This an Invasion. Armed guards must protect us USA citizens. I am so fed up with these self-serving government officials all the way up to the president who refuse to protect us. They all have deep pockets and are selling the good old USA out! Time to lock & load and fight back. As for you bleeding hearts I would suggest you leave this country and live amongst our enemies your friends. Time to get serious like our forefathers who protected their families & country. We the American citizens are supporting these criminals with our tax dollars. Am I the only one who see's what is really happening? Wake up America You are being invaded and this is nothing short of war!!!

I feel ROBBED and VIOLATED by not only the illegal aliens but by bush (intentionally lower-case) and his whole republican gang!!! He is pandering to the illegals (12 Million?) to get their vote after he hands them our country (did I hear the "I" word)? But as long as people keep voting republican, it's going to keep happening. Yes the Democrats have a few hustles too, but at least they do more for the working man (I cannot figure out why any working class person votes republican).

The problem is not just President Bush, it is ALL professional politicians (those with more than 6 years in congress). They don't care about those of us who work for a living. When they need money they just raise more campaign money and pay their kids and wives. Illegal immigration has been a problem for more than 20 years, and the only solution is to ignore the problem, it might cost politicians campaign contributions. One of the worst places for illegal aliens is Washington DC. To keep Congress from getting upset, immigration inforcement officers (ICE and CBP) are prohibited from arresting the thousands of illegals working in the hotels and restaurants, taking care of our representatives homes and children, and probably even cleaning the capital. The founding fathers are probably turning over in their graves!!

As with all problems there are many angles that have deep roots not confined to the current administration. Why do immigrants come here? They can get jobs that pay better than what they could get in their own crappy countries. Who hires them? Do the employers know who they hire? Of course. They hire illegals because they are cheaper and willing to put up with more. Why? Because unions (traditionally, the bed fellow of dems.) have made U.S. employees too high-priced. Crack down on employers, hard. If they can't get a job why would they come? Loosen the stranglehold the unions have on employers (I'm not saying go back to the old days of employer abuses.) Close our borders. Do not reward illegals by giving easy access to U.S. citizenship. Ten percent of Mexico's population now lives here.. that's the recent news. Maybe we should start economically
punishing Mexico for encouraging their people to come here. Yes, too many politicians on both sides (not just Bush) go for the vote with little regard for the ramifications to our future lives. They need some guts which were sadly lacking in the Senate recently. I wouldn't mind visiting Mexico but I don't want the U.S. to become Mexico north. We are a melting pot yes but we're getting inundated. We are becoming a nation of nationalities. Isn't that what helped break up Rome?

Who cares? It's a drop in the bucket. We're spending $9B a month on a dumb war and want to send the national guard to the border to stop an invasion. I say we deport illegals and fine their home country.

You might worry about border entry and the terrorist angle, but worrying about Chechnyan rebels helping al Qaeda is incorrect. They are an AMERICAN proxy: the Chechnyan's are indirectly supported by the United States. How did US stingers get into Chechnya? They weren't left over from Afghanistan, I'll tell you that much. The Carlyle Group and the lovely Saudi intel services? Russia is not blind to this. Look up the Jamestown Foundation. It is run by the biggest Russia hater in the US: Zbigniew Brzezinski. The Jamestown Foundation recently hosted a Chechnyan representative in the US to talk on how the poor Chechnyans are getting murdered by the Russians. A terrorist group is being openly represented/backed here in the US! Curious. Post 9/11 the US is still tied to terrorist groups who do our bidding. We manipulate fundamentalism to our own ends. Wake up little ones.......

ding ding,
Excellent points. We may recall a few hundred years ago when a group of "terrorists" had the audacity to use unconventional tactics against the British. It all depends on perspective. Terrorist is such an easy label to throw around, as if it were a universal cause. The Islamic extremists are criminals and should be hunted as such. Any cause which chooses to embrace terrorism must face the punishment for crimes against innocent civilians. But, one must be careful. Is the act of dropping bombs from 25,000 feet on civilian targets terrorism or war?
More to the point of this article though. Our borders are extremely insecure. Why is that? Economic pressures. Americans like to buy products and services cheap. We shop around and find the best deal and typically we don't care where or how it was produced. Thus US companies need to reduce their costs in order to remain competitive. In many industry sectors the dominant cost is labor. In order to get access to cheap labor business must either import the workers or export the jobs. Neither is a good for the US.
Before we go all crazy putting armed soldiers, guard towers and fences up around our country to further isolate us from the world. I would prefer that our government discuss how they might implement controls which create an incentive for US companies to use US workers and disencentives for the alternative. I certainly think this is a more important issue to spend their few hours together discussing then a gay marriage amendment that is already doomed to failure. The states are doing just fine at controling that issue. The borders and import/export issues are national concerns.
