Hasbro Pulls Plug on Sexy Dolls
May 24, 2006 10:34 AM
Bowing to pressure, Hasbro said today it will not be releasing its planned line of scantily-clad "Pussycat Dolls" figures this fall.
Outraged parents started a letter campaign to Hasbro, better known for Play-Doh and Weebles, expressing their anger over the company's plan to market the "blatantly eroticized dolls," according to the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood. The CCFC commended the company on the decision to pull the plug.
Modeled on the all-girl cabaret act turned pop singers, the dolls, in teeny mini-skirts and lacy tops, were as scantily-clad as the real-life act.
In a statement, Hasbro acknowledged that the image of the pop group "focused on a much older target than we had anticipated at the time of our original discussions." To move forward, the company said, would be "inappropriate."
Pussycat Dolls fans need not be sad. The girl group may soon be starting a line of lingerie and perfume, according to their website.

"Dont you wish your girlfriend was hot like me (oh)
Dont you wish your girlfriend was a freak like me (like me)?"
Boys and Girls, I love freedom, independence, and our command over our leaders as much as the next red-stated, blue-blooded American- really- but COME ON!?
Okay, I want my kids to be healthy and happy. I want them to look up to positive role models. While Barbie may be the worst doll to represent a role model, she kicks the PCD’s butt when it comes to relative wholesomeness. If someone wants to dress their Barbie in lingerie, more power to them- just not for me.
However, when you decided to immortalize a pop band in hard plastic, you have to be careful with which ones you do this. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded a Jet-Set- Philanthropist Bono doll when I was a kid (complete with a lear jet and signature U2 I-pod); I played with Star Wars and Transformers figures.
However, if you’d have presented me with a Morton Downey Jr. doll that screamed at you when you pulled the cord, I probably would be a different person now that I’m older. I know violence and sex don’t go hand in hand- unless you count that they can both be used to subjugate others (not a big fan of subjugation, thanks). But for the purposes of comparison, let’s all agree that a plastic PCD-doll was not the best idea. I for one am thankful I won’t have to come across one in 10 years at a yard sale and ask the owner, “where did you get it?”- only to be answered that it was her pregnant teen-aged daughter’s toy.
“Cos it don’t mean a thing if you lookin’ at my *BEEP* (Hah)”

Where is the outrage over ABC's show 20/20 showing an underage girl sucking the penis of a 40 year old man, and also film of the man spanking that girls buttocks? The fact that ABC "blurred" the film slightly is no defense. Without the blurring, it would be outright hard-core porn. With the blurring, it still is hard-core porn. Shame on ABC news. Those who decided to air this piece of film should go to prison for a long, long time.

Hey all you PCD fans, guess what? The PCD were put together by some slick record label to be overly produced shmuck that they knew would sell to mindless yuppies (people that listen to and like top 40 hits). They are not "outstanding". There is only one actual singer, who is mediocre at best. The rest of the group just dances around in their stripper gear. No talent, just sex appeal. I bet their producer is counting his money right now and laughing at all the morons that bought their piece of shit album. The thought of making them into dolls to be marketed to young girls disgusts me. Freedom of expression and sexuality is a responsibility. Not something to be exploited at every possible opportunity. And DEFINATELY not something to sell to little innocent girls and make money off of!
Good job to the parents that got these dolls banned. And to all the people that said there are more important battles out there that need to be fought, you are right. But It's the small battles like this that can really make a difference in our future. We need there to be people like this that care. People that will stand up to these companies that are being irresponsible and immoral with their marketing choices.
