New Details Filed on NSA "Secret Rooms"
May 26, 2006 12:40 PM
New details on "secret rooms" allegedly established inside an AT&T switching center in San Francisco have been made public in a sworn affidavit filed in court by a former AT&T employee, Mark Klein.
The affidavit was filed in support of a request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation for a preliminary injunction to shut down the NSA rooms.
According to the heavily-redacted eight page document, the NSA equipment is able to divert "the contents of all the electronic voice and data communications" moving through the AT&T facility.
Klein was briefly given access to the room, which he says the NSA installed in 2002.
Klein describes the AT&T facility as "one of the largest internet switching points in the United States."
The government unsuccessfully sought to stop the lawsuit against AT&T, but a judge has ruled that details will be kept secret.
Klein has previously provided a short public statement, but the court filing represents a more detailed description with broader contextual details.
A hearing on the request for the preliminary injunction is scheduled for June 8.
An AT&T spokesman gave the following statement, "AT&T will not comment on pending litigation."

Hey Brian Ross,
you unprofessional, biased, hack, are you going to apologize for your bogus Hasert story? Just wondering....
Posted by: Pete_Bondurant | May 26, 2006 1:04:06 PM
Hey Pete Bondurant,
What Brian Ross does here is rare in the mainstream media these days - it's called investigative journalism. Maybe if more in the MSM tried it, we wouldn't have invaded a country for WMD that never existed.
Trying thinking for yourself. It's not patriot to follow power blindly. Our country was founding by men who realized this.
Angry now? What's wrong, Pete? Don't like it when crooks are finally - finally! - being held accountable for their actions.
Sorry, pal. But this is just the beginning. Pull up a chair. And enjoy the show.
It's called democracy. Deal with it.

Cal you need to put down whatever it is you are smoking.
Pete asked a perfectly legit question. Is Brian going to apologize for pulling a Dan Rather on Hastert?
Not yet but he is being laughed at my professional journalists everywhere.

I second the support for Brian Ross. This is great for democracy. We need such a reporter today. Sadly, this column may be one of the last avenues, outside of the alternative press, where we can receive an unfiltered look at our government.
The bulk of the MSM is sterile.
And, I think Hastert owes us an apology. Whether or not he is being investigated, he deserves to be investigated.

AT&T has offices through-out the country. I questioned, if the NSA was able to install a “secret” room in the San Francisco location how would it not be possible without upper management not knowing?
Not only this, AT&T was “originally” charged but the probable of cause is clearly starting to surface, so what’s next? Will agents investigating these claims obtain a “legal” search warrant and check out the possibility of these centers containing “illegal secret rooms?”
NSA is not our constitution right, nor is AT&T when it comes to wire tapping. Even when an individual contacts AT&T about tracing calls on their phone line, the customer has to sign several legal documents and has to obtain approval from the courts, in order to protect the victim’s legal rights.
A pondering thought, the state I live in use to employee several hundred workers at a fairly large center, as I even applied their after high school. Although, it might be the center of the USA, it’s a center point to the coastal lines.
God Bless

If you're wondering why AT&T, Verizon, BellSouth, etc. might cooperate with NSA, check out the new power President Bush signed over to John Negroponte on May 5, 2006. The Pres. gave the Intelligence Czar the ability to issue a waiver to companies who work with NSA. This waiver allows you to break S.E.C. guidlines and to abandon generally accepted accounting procedures! In other words, all you have to do is play ball and you can have a license to steal. If you don't play ball...well, we see what happened to the CEO of Qwest.

Hi
I am a freelance investigative journalist based in Scotland.
I need to talk to Brian Ross soon.
I have a very interesting lead on a back channel story!
Send me your phone number.
Thanks
Stewart Nicol

Hey Pete and Luke, Even if, and I do say if, Brian Ross is wrong about Hastert does that change the facts of this story. If he is discredited by one possibly incorrect story then is that your view of this administration as well. The Hastert story and the Libby story was leaked by the commander in chief.

Why are you talking about Hastert on this story about the NSA's wiretapping? What's the matter? You can't find even a bogus excuse for your right-wing dictators on the wiretapping scandal that is unfolding, so you're trying to divert attention?

AND NOW THE GUY WHO SET UP THIS SPY ON AMERICANS PROGRAM WHICH BUSH HIS SELF LIED AND SAID HE WAS NOT SPYING ON AMERICANS IS HEADING THE CIA...JESUS HELP US ALL..BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY

I am not a terrorist....but I must have said the secret word. I called AT&T in Dec. and Jan. about someone cutting into my phone calls. AT&T denied any activity. I found redial numbers on my phone that I didn't call. Nobody has access to my phone but ME. What is going on? Yeah, sure, must be hackers cruising the neighborhood,
um huh, that's it.
I love God and my country....but I fear my government....it is becoming as corrupt as Mexico.
Shar,
from north central USA, soon to be third world, country.
