Police Tactics Called into Question

May 03, 2006 12:25 PM

A terror trial in Brooklyn, New York has opened a window onto New York City Police Department anti-terror tactics that some call questionable.

While defense attorney Martin Stolar argues that his client, Shahawar Matin Siraj, was victimized and entrapped by police, federal prosecutors say that the illegal Pakistani resident had conspired to bomb one of New York's busiest subway stops.

According to a New York City Police Department surveillance tape played in court, the defendant tells a police informant that he doesn't want to handle any bombs or cause anyone to die in an attack. He also tells the paid informant he needs his mother's permission. The day after the tape was made, Siraj was arrested. That was August 27, 2004, three days before the Republican National Convention began in Madison Square Garden, right next to the subway stop Siraj allegedly planned to bomb.

I defiantly agree entrapment on the police department. Is it possible that the victim was forced into a conversation surprisingly and his comments where made as such. All because he was an illegal immigrant from a country on the “suppose” watch list? Could it have been another way that someone was getting their “end” of the month quota of some sort, or wanting to distract the community trying to become a hero taking down a terrorist?

Or, because it was days before the Republican National Convention, with all the secrets being revealed by the present party housed on the hill, sort of tally’s up with the rest, another no secret demonstrated.

Additionally, I do have the utmost respect for police officers, because it runs in my family but, to read an article as such, lacks human compassion regardless of their ethical background.

Of course, no pun against the writer either, you’re just doing your job. A wonderful one, thank you for keeping the world informed.
