U.S. Ally or War Criminal?

May 03, 2006 12:08 PM

Darfur has been called the first genocide of the 21st century, yet the U.S. seems to be going easy on one of the perpetrators.

The U.S. sees the head of Sudan's military intelligence, General Salah Gosh, as a valuable asset in the war on terror.

But the UN and humans rights groups see him as a possible war criminal.

The UN sought to include the general on a list of people responsible for the genocide, but human rights advocates say the U.S. kept him and his associates off.

The State Department says that last week’s list was only a down payment and more names are to come. But it had no comment on General Gosh.

It seems we've been down this road before. Will we, the US, ever learn that the ends do not justify the means. We are being played. Allowing the evil in Darfur based on some perceived short term gain to the US is wrong. We are creating a larger population of disenfranchised people in the world with a reason to hate us who will gladly join terrorist organizations to hurt us.
