White Power Leader Indicted by U.S.

June 13, 2006 12:40 PM

Abc_us_alliance_060613_nrThe leader of one of the world's largest and most active neo-Nazi/white supremacist organizations, the National Alliance, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Utah.

Shaun Walker, the chairman of the National Alliance, and two other members of the group were charged with conspiring to interfere with the civil rights of two minority men in Salt Lake City in 2002 and 2003.

According to the FBI, the National Alliance, headquartered in West Virginia, has an established record of robberies, murders and bombings.

Last year in an interview with ABC News at the National Alliance compound, Walker said, "We stand for white people, it's pretty simple."

The indictment alleges that Walker and others sought to provoke fights and arguments in public places to make minorities "afraid to appear in public, work and live in and around Salt Lake City."

Also charged with Walker were Travis Massey, 29, the group's Utah spokesman, and Eric Egbert, 21, of Salt Lake City.

Federal marshals will transport Walker from West Virginia to Salt Lake City where he will be arraigned.

No one at the National Alliance compound could be reached for comment.

The Anti-Defamation League applauded the indictments. "The arrests send a powerful message to the racists and bigots who believe they can get away with targeting minorities," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

It's about time this hate monger gets behind bars. Although claiming to be an "American" this is the most un-American attitude a person could have. My hat is off to Utah.

Just curious....when will the mayor of New Orleans be indicted for attempting to intimidate whites who wish to move there and upset the status quo in his 'chocolate' (his word) city? Oh, that's right... NEVER! Double standards make me sick.

I wonder what part of "We the people..." Shaun Walker does not understand? I also wonder what race issues Shaun Walker will take with him when he gets to Heaven's gate and finds that Saint Peter is NOT caucasian! What is Walker thinking when he preaches hatred and violence, when he should be preaching about love, forgivness and appreciation of each other's differences? God made us each different in order to learn from (and respect) one another.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are still people out there with such hateful attitudes. I truly don't think there is anything wrong with being proud of your heritage but taking it to the point that you feel the need to harass and try to intimidate other humans for their heritage is totally unacceptable. GROW UP!!!

Thank you for getting one more idiot off the streets. And to think this country is a big melting pot and idiots like that want to cause more confusion. For all we know, they might not even be fully white, Utah is home to a lot of indians! What idiots. This country needs unity, not seperation!

>>The indictment alleges that Walker and others sought to provoke fights and arguments in public places

So this is all it takes: "provoking fights and arguments in public" to bring the full weight of the federal government down upon your head, with the posssibility of spending 20 years behind bars. Where has our liberty gone?

Pretty selective "hate crimes" indictment. And the extradition is a bit over the top.
Meanwhile for others it's still simply free speech to harrass pregnant woman in front of Planned Parent clinics, grafitti the property of Arab-American store owners with messages of hate, bash gays, descecrate churhes and Mosques...
Running this guy through the wringer is fine...but let's enforce the same laws with the same enthusiasm for all people who (as the indictment stands,) "provoke fights and arguments in public places to make minorities afraid to appear in public, work and live..." anywhere.
It happens all the time, everywhere.
Why so much particular attention to this one faction?
Why hardly any at all in the countless others, until someone gets beaten or shot?
This place gets more curious all the time.

Why are some people so hung up on the color of someone's skin?? We are all the same - equal and should be treated that way by all. There is absolutely no tolerance for anyone acting or thinking any way other than that.

What losers! Ignorance breeds ingnorance. Way to go UTAH.

It’s amazing to see that such hate still exist today in America. But keep in mind this hate exist not only within whites but a WIDE variety of minority groups too. Education on equality and equal understanding of human rights is what is missing within all of these hate groups. Maybe the closer we get to more of a mixed culture, then the less will see of such obvious hate within our country and throughout the world… The internet has helped us move towards a more united organization, but we still have a long way to go. I hope years of taught hate can thin out to educated rights for all who call themselves civilized humans.

It's horrible to think that ignorance such as this exists in the United States of America. I hope all the people who say, "Racism is dead" or who think minorities exaggerate the levels of discrimnation they STILL expierence in their every day life read this and WAKE UP!! I wish everyone could be black or asian or gay or some minority for a month or so and let me know if you think racism is dead.

Well one more moron off the street, millions more to go...

To the 'Nikki P' posting, I recall that the Mayor of New Orleans apologized for his choice of words and also explained that he meant 'chocolate' as a mixture of all races.

I'm in support of making sure all races have equal rights. However, sometimes things can taken out of context and misinterpreted.

Tammy said: "There is absolutely no tolerance for anyone acting or thinking any way other than that."

Oh, really? If you're going to make people think a certain way, it would at least help if you had the science to back it up.

And what about the mayor of New Orleans and his chocolate city?
Is there only freedom of speach for blacks?

No, but maybe there should only be freedom of "speach" for those who are literate...

It's amazing how hard people will look for differences between themselves and others! I mean, why skin color as the big differentiator? Why not height, straight teeth vs. crooked, or foot size? These folks are ignorant. I'm glad they got one off the streets for now. Just FYI to those who peddle hate: Genetically speaking, all human DNA is 99.999997% the same. We are so close it is almost imperceptable on broad cellular level. That small percentage difference means we have some variety in shapes, size and color of person. No inbreeding ;-) You'd think we'd be glad we're not all the same!

To Courtney:

So let me get this straight-- you think that the only thing contained within the indictment is "afraid to appear in public, work and live in and around Salt Lake City." Maybe thesmokinggun.com can obtain the ENTIRE contents of the indictment to put your mind at ease. In the meantime lets just stick w/ this article because the part where it said, "according to the FBI, the National Alliance, headquartered in West Virginia, has an established record of robberies, murders and bombings." must have slipped past you. Shaun Walker is the "leader", which means the leader must be held accountable. You know sort of like Kenneth Lay & Enron?! Although an indictment was absolutely necessary, I personally am not excited about the indictment because an indictment doesn't necessarily translate into prison for a very, very long time (to be continued . . .) And besides, I'm sure the "devilish looking" Shaun Walker has been personally grooming someone to take over his "evil throne" (you know like abu al-zaqwari). So, unless the ENTIRE organization is dismantled & either deprogrammed or imprisoned on a deserted island, what good does it do?
