Former White Supremacist Leader Out of Jail
July 06, 2006 1:56 PM
Shaun Walker, the former Chairman of the country's largest and most active white supremacist group, is a free man at least for now.
Magistrate Judge David Nuffer released the former National Alliance leader pending his trial on hate-crime charges after Walker proved he had obtained a Salt Lake City residence and had surrendered his passport. His release is also contingent on no communication with his co-defendants or with members of any racially-motivated group, including the National Alliance.
According to the organization's website, Erich Gliebe, a former Chairman, has taken over the reins as "the acting CEO and will fill Mr. Walker's roles, including producing the American Dissident Voices radio program each week. "
Walker, along with two other members of the group, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for violating the rights of two minority men in Utah. He has pled not guilty to the crimes.
If convicted at his trail scheduled for Aug. 21, Walker could face a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. As for the National Alliance, they say, "It will be business as usual for the National Alliance and its associated businesses and we will continue to surge ahead without missing a beat. "
