NSA Whistleblower Now Silent
July 31, 2006 4:00 PM
NSA whistleblower Russell Tice sent out an email today informing the media and friends that he had been advised by his own lawyers not to talk on matters of the National Security Agency and most recently the federal grand jury subpoena that was served on him.
Tice, a former NSA intelligence officer, told ABC News this past January that he observed unlawful and unconstitutional acts at the NSA while working there. He said the number of Americans subject to eavesdropping by the NSA could be in the millions if the programs used by the agency were employed to their full capacity.
Last Wednesday, two federal agents approached Tice outside his home and served him with a subpoena directing him to testify this Wednesday afternoon before a federal grand jury in Virginia. According to the subpoena, he "will be asked to testify and answer questions concerning possible violation of federal criminal law."
After the existence of the NSA program was made public, the U.S. government launched an investigation into who leaked information about the surveillance program to the media.
In response to the subpoena, Tice said in a press release, "To this date I have pursued all the appropriate channels to report unlawful and unconstitutional acts conducted [by the government] while I served as an intelligence officer with the NSA and DIA. It was with my oath as a U.S. intelligence officer to protect and preserve the U.S. Constitution weighing heavy on my mind that I reported acts that I know to be unlawful and unconstitutional."
But since that subpoena, Tice's appearance before the grand jury has been postponed at the request of Tice's defense counsel, Josh Dratel. No new date has yet been set for Tice to testify.
Tice lost his job at the NSA in May of 2005 after the agency revoked his security clearances, citing psychological concerns. He is now building homes in the Washington, DC area.

The MSM is Dumb or stupid or maybe both, they do not have a clue about how the NSA works. There is no way that a warrant can be executed on an intercept, because the nsa is looking for voice regconition or key words, how would get a warrant to hear call that is happening real time.
This goes to show how the MSM thinks, most of them are from upper white elite families whom have never served in the military or public servives, they report on an issue they think that makes you an expert.
But the MSM is not interested in finding out the technical end of how the nsa does listen to phone calls because that does not fit their MISSION STATEMENT TO MOLD ALL WORDS AND ACTIONS TO DEFEAT BUSH AND IF THE WAR ON TERROR IS LOST THATS FINE TOO.
Anyone whom knows the facts about how NSA works knows that the garbage that is reported at ABC and NBC,CNN OR ANY MSN outlet is writtten by spoiled rich white kids that do not have a clue how they and their families are protected on a daily basis, because they and their families are not on the front lines FIGHTING THE WAR ON TERROR.
THE REASON WHY THE CLINTON ADMIN. TURNED THE OTHER WAY BECAUSE IT EASIER JUST TO HIDE THE FACTS AND NOT FIGHT TERROR WHERE IT SHOWS IT UGLY HEAD.
FIGHTING THE WAR ON TERROR IS GOING TO BE THE MOST COSTLY COMPLEX TASK WE HAVE EVER SEEN.
ONLY ONE LEADER HAS STEPPED FORWARD TO LEAD THIS FIGHT AND HIS NAME IS GW BUSH.
THE MSM IS JUST AS BAD AS TERRORIST THEY PRINT CLASSIFIED MATERIAL AND CONDUCT OPERATIONS TO ENSURE AMERICA IS DEFEATED AT ALL COST. PRINT MATERIAL EVERYDAY THAT HURTS NATIONAL SECURITY.

JW,
FISA allows the NSA to listen for up to 72 hours before informing a FISA judge about the surveillance, so your arguement against MSM in the first paragraph of your post appears to be in error.
JW, paragraphs 2 and 3 appear to me to be unsupported accusations. I think that most American citizens want a safe home. Now it
may be the case that many people do not have the best or most effective idea or ideas about how to go about making our home safe.
People in the Armed Services in the United States are informed, instructed, taught, that they are to defend the Constitution of the
United States. No club, organization or "click" is, in principle, above the law; not
even the United States military. Our system is a system with 'checks and balances' and
freedom of the press to investigate and report on errors in our government and country is essentail to our safety.
Sometimes in order to do what is good, right and correct we must recognize that there will be difficulty involved; there may be pain or the like. Quite a number of people have suffered, have died, and have been injured through the history of our country by militant elements in our federal, state and local governments and in other venues.
It is absolutely essentail that our Constitution be protected and preserved; and there are many, some in 'high places,' who do
not understand that if one violates the Constitution in defending the Constitution you have done harm; if one does it as a pracitce or 'policy' then one has 'lost the battle.'
JW we are all different and there are rules that make good sense that we can live by. With respect for our fellow citizens, let us
work together for a peaceful and safe home.

With all the news surrounding NSA, CIA, Wiretapping... can ya see how our country is falling prey to the enemy? We're now destroying ourselves. At the current rate, it will not be long until "indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" goes way of all other great empires.
Sad, but true and inevitable.
